If I can handle roller coasters should I do well on this?

It's straight up and down, and does not involve spinning, going backward, or upside down. You won't know, however, just how the ride will end for you, because each ride is programmed randomly. When the ride first opened, it was one drop, and that was it. Now, you may go up and down a few times, and won't know just how many times, or how high. The short answer is, if you like roller coasters, you should like it.

Agreed. If you like the "air time" on roller coasters, there shouldn't be anything on TOT that would upset you.

One of my sister's HATED her one trip on Tower of Terror, and only went so she could say she'd been on and didn't like it - but she LOVED Rock n' Rollercoaster, Mission:Space (intense version), etc. She also isn't a big fan of Splash Mountain because of the drop. How do you do on that one?

I can't do simulators (apart from Soarin which for some reason I like), but I find ToT much less scary than some coasters I've been on (can't say for Disney ones, I've only done Splash and BTM). It's just up and down - fast up and down granted (!) but still just up and down. Makes me laugh and I'm a relative scardy cat ;)

On the Tower of Terror I get to be weightless.

Weight Watchers can't do that...neither can a fancy spa.

I love the ToT!:D

I LOVE ToT - its my favorite thrill ride. if you take your feet off the ground then you actually float on the way back down, held in place by your seatbelt. its very very cool. the first time I rode it at DCA, I was completely and utterly terrified, and when we got to the bottom found that I was clutching the poor stranger next to me - he was very nice about it, I have to say. now, its just lots of fun, and I much preferred the random drop sequence at HS. the first time I rode, we got to the bottom after a couple of drops, the lights went on, everyone straightened up and started getting organised, i thought it was all over, and all of a sudden, up we went again. freaked me out totally!

There is a lot more to Twilight Zone Tower of Terror than just the elevator drop. I can't do that anymore but I do everything else and leave through the Express Elevator. Because I think the preshow in the library and the boiler room are THE best mind games you can ever go through without ever actually riding an attraction. Even the lobby area is great. And not to do any spoilers but even before you take one drop, your mind is still being played with. The drops are actually my least favorite thing on the whole attraction (although they are great).

My advice is to try it once. The drops are pretty freaky but the whole setup is what makes this attraction.

One of my favorite parts of ToT is riding with people who have no idea what is about to happen.

disnut is right, they do mess with your brain.

I was deadset against going on ToT the very first time. I just wasnt going to go and that's all there was to it. Although I lost a bet with my husband and the stipulation was that I would go on ToT with him if I lost. So I went......It is now my absolute very favorite ride of all time!!!! I wanted to go on it again and again after that first time. I am a rollercoaster lover, but I am not usually a huge fan of weightless drops (the ones where your stomach is in your throat) but I love this ride and do it every chance I can. :D

I took my 65 year old mother on the ride and now we are Tower junkies.

Tower is the complete package. It has theme and story and thrill - that all tie together. It all makes sense.

If you are slightly claustrophobic, I would not recommend it. My dad is terrified of elevators, so I won't let him go on the ride. (although I think he would love the theming).

I do have to warn you - it makes me pause now everytime I ride an elevator in my real life. ;)

It's random. There are a number of different sequences/effects that go into a single ride. I'm not sure if the actual effects are randomized, or if the total sequence is set ahead of time and which one you get is what is random.

Basically, you're not done until you start moving backwards.

I do have to warn you - it makes me pause now everytime I ride an elevator in my real life. ;)

One of my favorite cast member stories was a lady who did the Backstage Magic Tours. When riding in an "on-stage" elevator she would wait until the doors close and announce "Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls, Welcome to the test elevator for the new Tower of Terror. Your experience to day will be monitored by Disney Imagineers." And then watch for the reactions! I've always wanted to try doing this, but I haven't worked up the nerve yet.

You know that feeling you get when you are going down that first big hill on a coaster? The flippy feeling in your stomach? That's the feeling I get on TOT.
