Checking out: http://www.screamscape.com they have some interesting rumors.

A little background though. Over at themeparksonline.org, they have an article about how SFMM will receive a major attraction for 03.

So, Screamscape has heard rumors of an Intamin hyper woodie being built for the park. At the park, they has been clean up in two areas, the boneyard behind Psyclone - which is a good location, flat, and on the hills behind Roaring Rapids.

In the rumor dated 8/10/02, it is mentioned that SFMM might be installing two hyper woodies! That made me think. SFMM has a history of installing record breaker rides, they need to maintain the "extreme" park status, and they might be looking to break their tie with Cedar Point for most coasters in one park.

Also, CP might try to take the record for speed and height with their next coaster trying to overtake Superman, so SFMM could use a new massive attraction to sell the park. For the local market, it would definately help if they had a wood coaster equal or better than Ghostrider.

What better way to accomplish these goals than to build a hyper deuling wood monster of a coaster?! I could picture it as SFMM answer to Gwanzi or to Deuling Dragons where Fire & Ice follow two different layouts and "collide" at certain points. This would give SFMM 17 coasters, a record breaker in height for a wood coaster, possibly speed for a wood coaster, the largest deuling coaster in the world, and help spread out the crowds of the park.

Thoughts?

I have heard the rumor about the new wooden coaster also. A friend of mine who works for Six Flags took it one step further though and said Psyclone was going to be removed (for whatever reason). This would definitely open up more space.

After building this ride, SFMM can invest in some paint and use it around the park. I was thinking of also starting a campaign to buy some trashcans and pressure washers for SFMM. What do you think?

on a side note:
The space around SFMM is limited especially on the south and west ends. That property outside SFMM limits is owned by Newhall Land. A major road is planned behind SFMM eventually that will tie MM Pkwy with the Industrial center road in Castaic.

Really? Remove the reviled Psyclone? Maybe they can use the spare wood to construct the new coaster(s). That would be awesome if they did remove it, or at least hire Intamin to fix the ride so that it doesn't stand out as the second worst coaster in the park.

I though SFMM should hold painting parties for the pass holders. Invite them to come up on a closed day in the off season and tackle the run down spots. For payment, ERT's on X and Deja Vu, and the new Intamin ride. Deluxe trashcans and pressure washers would be awesome as well. I would do the pressure washing for min. wage if I got express entry onto the rides.

I hope that no one on Newhall Land builds a house so close to SFMM that the residents start to complain about the noise! I guess SFMM expansions after 05 might start taking them into the parking lots. Does SFMM own the land north towards the freeway?

OK. If SFMM is going for a record number of coasters, why would they remove one? Reviled though Psyclone may be (although I quite like it - to each their own, I guess), I believe it's lightyears behind Flashback in, uh, "reviledness". Not that FB is ever open. Why wouldn't they remove one that's never open and nobody likes - or at least admits that they like it? (Yeah, I know. Location, location, location.)

And I thought Magic Mountain still had options on all that land around them.

I doubt they will remove Psyclone or FB (which opens during the off season occasionally) just for the coaster count record. There are a couple of solutions. One, they could hire a company to rebuild Psyclone to make it an enjoyable ride. At the same time, invest in new trains for FB that eliminate the roughness/headbanging.

Or, if FB is removed, keep the station but in it's place put a wild mouse coaster like Psycho Mouse, or a Jr. steel coaster like Tom and Jerry at WBMW Madrid.

The rumor I have heard on Flashback is that it will be dismantled on some date and moved to the rear of the park so Hurricane Harbor can expand.

Rumor only.

They can blow up Flashback for all I care. What a piece! As for Psyclone, it is abusive but I kinda like the feeling that it could fall apart while riding - gives you a sense of what people in the early 20'th century must've felt.

Although you make a good point, Thomas. In order to access the area behind Psyclone they would either need to tear it down or make a super-long queue through it.

BTW, I have added some more classic 1970's Magic Mountain pics to my site: http://snow.prohosting.com/themepk/

Enjoy!

Thanks for the info on SFMM. Amazing how much the place has changed!

I think they could do a little more to blend in the coasters into their surrounding by just doing some major landscaping around the park.

Why does Goliath cruise over dirt? Or, how long does it take Riddlers grass to grow in? Or what if Batman flew through a "gotham city"? Or Collosuss sits on asphalt as well.

On Sunday, I did notice that X's queque is quite a bit better than opening day, with trees placed for shade and misters for the heat. Deja Vu will look pretty good when that area grows in.

For Goliath, I would want to see a ground treatment done around the coaster. Leave the access roads in, but it wouldn't kill them to put in astro turf or giant rocks or maybe even pools of water (or a waterfall into a pool in the center of the ride). Certainly, a lot can be done to make the rides more visually pleasing as you travel through the course.

With the brutal heat of summer in Valencia, you would think that trees and water features would be all over the place.

DBJ, your suggestions would be great. Unfortunately, I believe they just don't care about landscaping - it is not a profit center for them. And the parent company is so BUSY acquiring other amusement parks around the country that all the cash is needed for other things.

Oh, and what is with Deja Vu's queue?! It looks like you are going into an employee area walking between those fences. Why can't they dress that up a bit? Maybe make a small circle with a fountain that is the hub for both Deja Vu and Psyclone?

Why would SFMM bother landscaping when they don't even bother to clean their park. SFMM is not geared towards people who are looking for nice landscaping or whatever like the crowds at the DLR. SFMM is just a big "gang" hangout in my opinion. The only reason the flowers and landscaping are kept up going up the hill to SFMM is that Newhall Land requires SFMM to maintain this portion since they are allowing SFMM to use this as an access road to get to the park. YES, SFMM does not have the right to use MM Pkwy. SFMM is considering a new entrance back where the employees enter {rumor only, nothing definite}
