View Full Version : Rain vs crowds - which is the better option?
CookieBandit 03-12-2008, 10:41 AM We're plan on going to Disneyland this Saturday, but they're predicting rain/winds. I was hoping to be able to see Fantasmic, but if it rains or there are winds, we'll be out of luck.
The only other time I can go (before my 2fer ticket expires) is next Saturday, but that's the day before Easter.
Which would be the better option - going when it's raining (fewer crowds, hopefully, but missing Fantasmic and Teacups) or going when it'll probably be more crowded (and there's no guarantee of great weather)?
Are there any other rides that close when it rains? Does Splash Mountain still run? Missing Fantasmic won't be a huge disappointment (I saw it 4 times last year) but I heard that there were some minor changes that might be interesting to see... if it rains in the morning, but not in the afternoon/night - do they cancel Fantasmic?
(Also hoping that, as March 15th is the 1st day of the "spring break" block, there won't be *too* many people... maybe they'll still be traveling).
River Belle 03-12-2008, 03:47 PM Here's my best guess...
We were there this past Sunday (3/9) and it was a BEAUTIFUL day. It was also VERY crowded. We're definitely entering "Spring Break" season, so I'm thinking that if you go on a Saturday any time in the next several weeks, it's going to be crowded no matter what.
I'm pretty sure that Splash Mountain still runs in the rain (as do most of the attractions), but according to the few weather forecasts on-line that I usually rely on, it looks like there's only about a 10% chance of rain on Saturday right now.
I think you'll be just fine if you go this weekend...
Have a great time!:)
Jim Dear and Darling 03-12-2008, 03:56 PM I'd rather deal with the crowds and have it be a nice day. FWIW. :) Have Fun!
Bytebear 03-12-2008, 08:03 PM I don't mind a rainy day. it usually is light, and off and on If it starts raining hard, just do an indoor ride. But, I have to say, on some rainy days, the crowds are still heavy, so don't expect the park to be empty. I might just pick the sunny day Crowds really don't seen to be light anymore ever.
CalifNative 03-13-2008, 08:50 AM We were there on Easter Sunday in 2006, and it was VERY crowded.
But last year we were at WDW on a rainy, drizzly day, during spring break. The crowds didn't go away, they just filled up the restaurants. :(
I'm with Peachy -- I'd rather be there on a nice day.
CookieBandit 03-13-2008, 02:21 PM I guess we'll take our chances and go this Saturday... after all, there's no guarantee that next weekend will be sunny skies...
Hope the rain and wind will hold off until Sunday! (No offense to anyone who's going on Sunday!):p
Niwel 03-13-2008, 02:25 PM If you go on a rainy day, make sure to bring extra dry socks in your backpack.
lizziemcguire76 03-13-2008, 02:30 PM I'd personally rather go on a rainy day because often the crowds are a least a bit lighter and often the rain does not last all day.
CookieBandit 03-16-2008, 12:39 AM Went to DL today. It was a bit windy today - but sunny. Clouds moved in late afternoon.
Around 7pm-ish, someone asked a CM who said that the fireworks might be cancelled but that Fantasmic should be okay.
At about 8:30pm, it started sprinkling and then a few minutes later - there was an announcement that there was a possibility that the 9pm showing of Fantasmic may be cancelled. Most people just stayed seated, but then it started to rain harder, so we (and most people) just left.
Not sure if Fantasmic was actually cancelled but it was still raining and windy by 8:55pm, so I assume it was.
Although I am kind of disappointed to miss Fantasmic, it's okay - at least I have a story to tell! I waited 2.5 hours in the cold and then Fantasmic was cancelled! :p
Oh - and about the crowds - they weren't bad at all. The longest wait time was about 30 minutes (for Astro Orbitors, and Astro Blasters). We didn't try Space Mountain, but we rode Splash Mountain 3 times (morning stand-by; noon w/ FPs; late afternoon w/ FPs), Pirates twice, Haunted Mansion twice, Astro Blasters twice (once stand-by, once FP), amongst other rides. So it was definitely manageable.
