Ok my husband will probably come un-glued on me for this seeing how Im always changing our Disney reservation around, but I would like to know about renting a DVC for the week we are there which is June 21-29th if possible. I have to admit I have no clue how it works besides points and weeks. How could I get ahold of someone to answer my questions? Has anyone rented from one of resorts before and do you have to own to do this or can we rent for the week? Any experience or information would be greatly appreaciated. Thanks in advance........:)

There are two ways to stay at a DVC resort if you are not a DVC owner. The first is to just book the room directly with Disney. Just like any other resort, though the availability is different because of the ownership agreements (how many units can Disney sell for cash how far out, that sort of thing).

You can also rent points from a DVC owner. This then becomes a private transaction between you and the DVC owner and requires trust on both sides. They make the reservation in your name, but ALL arrangements have to go through them. You are limited on the maid service you receive (trash and towels on day 3 or 4, full room on day 7 or so) unless you want to pay extra for daily service. I've poked around on www.mouseowners.com, and they seem to have info on renting, the points required for the various locations/time of year etc.

That said, if you're talking about June of this year, there may not be any availabilty left for what you're interested in. DVC owners can book 11 months out for their 'home' resort, and 7 months out for others, and since end of June is school vacation time, I'd anticipate the resorts are probably booked (but maybe not).

Go here: www.disboards.com and scroll down to DVC - rent/trade. You will learn everything you need to know - all the ins and outs of renting points. Plus, people post their points for rent or you can post a request to rent points. June might be difficult because it is so close, but give it a try. It's always worked out really well for us!

I agree with the search on DisBoards. However, in their DVC rent/trade forum I think they do not allow any transactions or requests where the start date is more than 30 days out.

That is only for existing reservations that a DVC owner would like to transfer to someone else. You can go farther out if you are renting points from the DVC owner for them to make a reservation in your name. But please review the rules for that board before you post. They are long and potentially confusing.

Not true, my Disney friend. I always rent from this board and this time I rented in Janury for our August trip.

The rules for posting aren't too bad, but you do need to read and follow them. They run a pretty tight ship, and will lock your post if you screw up. OK, so I got my post locked ONE TIME, but I was done anyway ;)

You can certainly save a lot of money on great accommodations in a “Disney Deluxe Villa Resort” (Disney Vacation Club) by renting a reservation direct from a DVC member rather than making the reservation with WDW reservations (aka CRO).

However, please be sure and educate yourself on how a DVC reservation is very different from a regular hotel reservation, and the basics of “renting points”, as it is often referred to.

To add on to what Drince said, rentals a few months out are not unheard of. However, you have got to be flexible in your choices if you are really interested in renting. In other words, have an idea of preference when it comes to which resort, room view, and room type. All those variables will impact how many points will be needed for a stay, thus impacting your cost.

With the average rental going for around $10 a point that will give you something to work with when it comes to how much to budget.

Renting is not without its risks, but it does provide a way to get a great room at a very good cost. But beware... renting a 2BR at the BCV is what caused me to seriously consider, and subsequently becoming a DVC owner. :)
