My father-in-law will be coming with us to DL for our next trip but due to health conditions he will need to rent a powered wheelchair. Does anyone know what the policys are for each park and do they allow you to exit DL and then enter DCA or do you have to rent another one once you get over there? I looked on DLR website but could not get the answers I was looking for. Any help would be great.

Yes, you can take them across the esplanade between the two parks. You just can't take them outside of the esplanade or exit DCA at the GCH.
You might also consider renting from an outside company. I believe that the current favorite among MPers is Deckerts but Malcon10t will probably be here shortly to confirm. :)

Just to clarify, they do not rent power wheelchairs. They rent ECVs, which are closer to a mini one seated golf cart than a wheelchair. That said, yes, we prefer Deckert's. You can leave the park area with them and they are a little smaller than the DLR version. The DLR versions cannot go past the bag check area, so if you want to walk thru DTD, he will need to walk.
For us it was $125 for 4 days, and $190 for 13 days. Much better than Disneyland rates if you are going for a longer time.

I highly recommend renting from Deckerts. I don't have the number -- but the hotel can give it to you. They will have the scooter there at your hotel when you arrive (I picked mine up at the bell desk at my hotel) and they pick it up after you leave. It was $40 a day (comparable to the in park rental) and you have use of it the whole time you're there. The walk from the hotel into the park can be a long one -- and back to the hotel at night. You can even ride the monorail with it!
Remember to charge it every night. Mine died on me in the middle of the last day!

Deckerts is the best...When we stayed at the Disneyland Hotel, Guest Services set the whole thing up for us. We just went to the desk and told them we needed an ECV and they arranged with Deckerts to bring it for us. It was great and they have the best equipment.

So did you not charge it at all? We will be there three days and I think I would be better off having one from the hotel than renting at the parks. The Official Guide puts the walking distance from the closest rooms at Candy Cane Inn to the park entrance at about 1/2 mile, and you still have to get into the park. I am scared that with my bad knee I would be done for before I even got there. Forget about crawling back to the hotel at night! (And crawling is the operative word). I'm going with my son and grandson and I do not want to slow them down!
So do you think if I charged it every night it would make it from the hotel and park all day and back without any problems?
I am so excited...it is finally seeming real! I am finally going to Disneyland!

Deckert's number is (714) 542-5607
I believe they are open on Saturday. They are a wonderful company. I used them in the past to rent an easy chair with a lift after I had knee surgery and they had great customer service.
I would call them and ask them how many miles a charge will last on one of their scooters. But based on past experience with my Mom's scooter, she has gone to Disneyland from GCH, ridden all day, and still has more than half a charge when she got back to the hotel. (And yes, we re-charged every night.)
Good luck!

If the scooter you rent is rated for your weight then the batteries 'should' last all day, I would recommend bringing the charger with you if it is seperate, most of the rentals have built in chargers that you just pull the cord out and plug in, I rented from another company who shall remain nameless and their scooters were pretty worn down and the charge wasn't lasting but I found places in the park to plug in and get a bit more juice to get around.
I know other padders who have stayed at the Candy Cane and scootered back and forth and all over the park and been fine using a Deckerts rental.
When you call the company you need to tell them your weight and ask them to ensure the scooter will accomodate it since there are so many different types. I have heard nothing but excellent reviews about Deckert's.

You shouldn't have a problem going all day on a charge. In Oct. I was only charging every other day, and going from Hojo's to DL (about same distance as CCI).
IF there is a problem, there are places you can plug in to charge in Disneyland. I thought we were going to make a list at one time, but the only place I can remember was by Space Mountain HA area. It is back by where the cast members enter near the restrooms. There is a plug outlet you can use.
