View Full Version : Question about 3D Shows
wolfepackmom 02-22-2008, 05:18 PM We'll be going to Disneyland at the end of March and I was curious if anyone might know what sort of experience you get in the various 3D shows if you can't see in 3D. My DH is blind in one eye and so the old fashion type of 3D movies/glasses do not work for him. I'm wondering if we should bother with the 3D shows or if it will be so distorted for him that it would be a waste of time and just frustrating. I'm also wondering what it might look like if my DS who will be 3 refuses to wear the glasses, though he may not care too much.
Thanks!
Toocherie 02-22-2008, 05:59 PM Last time I saw It's Tough to be a Bug I was curious as to how it would look without the "bug-eyes" and I took them off--I really didn't see that much of a difference so think you will be ok.
TTFN92 02-22-2008, 07:08 PM You see multiple images. When my kids were little they wouldn't wear the glasses to make it less scary. They didn't like things coming at them.

Glasses or no glasses do NOT take the three year old into It's Tough to be a Bug!
3d shows/movies always give me a headache, so I've tried them without glasses to see if that would help. Everything looks just a little blurry around the edges, but you can still follow the story.
ShirleyFilms 02-22-2008, 09:05 PM Our 3 year old loved "Its tough to be a bug".
3d technically probably wont work unless you have 2 eyes to have a difference in depth of field. I have pretty bad eye sight in one eye and it doesnt really work for me... buts its still very enoyable! In fact, we NEVER miss ITTBAB. There is much more to the show than just the 3-D. Its a fun experience.
Thats my opinion, anyway.
bradk 02-23-2008, 07:49 AM they are polarized 3D. so each eye sees both images. basically with one eye, the image will look flat, but will work just fine (minus the 3D effect).
i've actually taken photos of 3D movies at WDW.
without the glasses, it's just a bit fuzzy.
wolfepackmom 02-23-2008, 08:00 AM Thanks to everyone who's replied. I was wondering if it was a different sort of 3D than the old red/blue lense glasses. I haven't used the polarized type so didn't know how that would work.
It will be interesting to see if ITTBAB bothers our 3 year old. He's pretty brave about most things and tries to do everything his 5 year old brother does. So I'm guessing if the 5 year old is enjoying the show, he'd really try to do the same. But I'll try for a seat near the door just in case we need to leave.
Can't wait for our trip!!
bradk 02-23-2008, 09:14 AM i need to correct myself. each eye sees only one of the two images, but the end result is the same. it'll be flat with just one eye, but clear.
if the eye saw both images, it'd be the same as having the glasses off (only slightly darker).
Darkbeer 02-23-2008, 09:21 AM If you only have vision in one eye, still wear the glasses. You will see the movie clearly, basically just not in 3-D. If you don't wear the glasses, your view will be blurry, especially when they are trying to make something look close to you.

I have to agree with shirleyfilms- my boy did ITTBAB at 18 mo and at 3 yrs. - my DD did it at 3 yrs and neither were bothered by it - neither wore the glasses at three but they were fine - if you think he will be bothered by the bee "stinger" getting him in the back, let him sit on your lap. Honestly, my boy was more afraid of Honey I shrunk the Audience when the snake comes out - but we just prep him and cover his eyes! Have fun - if he is brave, I don't think it will bother him, just tell him if he gets scared to take off the glasses -
kingqueen 3princesses 02-24-2008, 12:44 PM I agree that the "scariest" part for my kids is the stinger which having the child sit on your lap or lean forward would solve.
LdyApxr 02-24-2008, 03:10 PM We love ITTBAB but hate(and I do mean hate! lol) HISTA. The thing that got me was the "mice" getting loose. Not a good thing when you are wearing shorts. LOL Our son was 5 when we did DCA the first time and he loved the "stinger" and the bugs leaving the theater first(the heiney movers he called it) LOL
