Regarding souvenirs, etc... we are on a tight budget. I'd like to get something for the kids, but it doesn't have to be the latest and greatest thing, as they've never seen ANY of it before. Does Disney even DO markdowns at the park? Do they cluster them at certain stores, or are they hidden in a corner of each one? Thanks for any insight!

Turn into the parking lot on the right and proceed to the furthest corner east. There is the Character Warehouse with all the bargains.
Now, on rare occasions, you may find a small markdown area in the Emporium (usually only after Christmas and Halloween with the markdown of the holiday stuff.) It is usually on the firehouse side at the back of the store.

At thanksgiving we found that all the pirate merch was half price in DTD, it was all piled up in front of the west door and had a CM greeting us and telling us that the merch was 1/2 off. So maybe look for a movie that has been off the screen for awhile.

I agree with Malcon10t. If you are willing or can drive out to the Character Warehouse, I'd shop there first. They even sell stuff that's currently in the park at a markdown. It's hit or miss, as some deals are better than others.
You might want to drive to the Walmart on Uclid (Near the 5 freeway) They have a section where they sell all sorts of Disney merchandise (minus the "Disneyland" logo. A shirt might say "Mickey Mouse California" instead of "Disneyland") at inexpensive prices. Good Luck!
