Ok so I have been to WDW many times and get so excited when I get to plan the whole vacation so now that were going again in June, im getting anxious and here's why. I LOVE all the rides and sometime's ride them over and over until im sick. But that doesent settle my nervous stomach about what if it breaks, goes off track and we all fall to our deaths, or fly out of the rides if the seat belts or bars come loose? So my question is this, do these rides go through maintence daily with nuts re-tighten and tracks re-greased? What does Disney do to assure us all a safe ride. I think about this everytime I board a ride and quietly freak out. Thanks in advance for helping me settle down and not freak out that I will die on a ride.:)

I can pretty much guarantee you that things are tested daily and have regular maintenance schedules and in general, there is nothing to worry about.

In the history of the parks, there has only been one instance where a maintenance issue caused a problem. This was on Big Thunder Mountain Railroad in Disneyland a few years ago. The poor maintenance caused a car to uncouple from the car in front, and sadly killed one guy and hurt a few others. An intense investigation found some deficiencies in Disney's maintenance procedures, which were all immediately corrected. And of course Disney pretty intensely checked out all of its maintenance procedures throughout all of their parks. They do many checks daily on all of their rides. I have always and will continue to feel perfectly safe on all Disney rides - much more so than at your average county fair!

Just think about the millions of people who visit Disney Parks around the world each and every day. How often do you hear of accidents? They are few and far between.

Go and have fun...and try not to worry...when it's our time to go, it's our time to go, and we have no control over that.

I feel perfectly safe on all Disney rides.
I feel even safer when I use the antibacterial gel after touching the hand rails in the Que.
When it is my time to go, and if I happen to be at WDW, I would consider becoming a permanent guest at the Haunted Mansion.

you want to know how they can guarantee your safety?

disney has successfully lobbied to ensure that they (and other sizeable amusement parks) aren't regulated by the state (at least in Florida) and you can be sure that they aren't going to do anything to jeopardize that.

the few deaths that have occurred in recent years have all been attributed to pre-existing conditions with no signs of trauma

As far as ride vehicles coming off the rails is concerned, it's virtually a physical impossibility. Unlike the family SUV, roller coasters are designed so that the center of gravity can never shift outside of the vehicle. Rock 'n' Rollercoaster's motion induction system can't propel a car at unsafe speeds (what would be the point of adding that "feature"?). Rides such as Big Thunder Mountain and Expedition Everest rely on gravity to pull the vehicle down drops so unless you're riding with someone who's capable of altering the gravitational constant of the universe, there's nothing to worry about. (And if you are near someone with that ability, I would be more concerned with being flung off the planet.)

Disney does its maintenance so well that I have never even thought about an accident happening when I'm on a ride. Or when my grandkids are on a ride. Or when anyone is on a ride. I've been there over 50 times and while Space Mountain and Expedition Everest made me nervous because I have a fear of heights, there's never even the inkling in my mind that anything at Disney World is unsafe.

As someone mentioned, I'd be terrified at the county fair having someone I know on one of those rides. Disney attractions are there for the long haul. Those carnival things pack up and ship out all the time.

Try and relax. If Disney World had any maintenance issues at all, the Orlando Sentinal would have that headline in huge letters on the front page. Disney World simply cannot afford not to be the most careful and well maintained theme park in the world.
