Thanks! :D teri 08-27-2002, 11:49 AM You are welcome. :) I lived in MA for 12 years, about 5 miles from the orchards in Stow. Lovely area! Enjoy! FredofLasVegas 08-27-2002, 11:28 PM I just wanted to give my $.02 on the parks in New England. Of everything there, you MUST make a trip to Lake Compounce in Bristol, CT. It'll be the most fun you'll have at any park in that region. There's not a whole lot of rides, but the ones they do have are a lot of fun. There are 3 rides that are an absolute must to do. The first is Boulder Dash which is one of the wildest wooden coasters I've ever been on and is constucted entirely on a mountain side. The second is Ghost Hunt, an interactive dark ride. And the third is the Sky Ride which take you up over 1,000 ft to the top of the mountain giving riders a breathtaking view of the park and surrounding area. The park also is offering free soft drinks, following a concept followed by Holiday World in Indiana. I highly recommend Lake Compounce. Yes, I know, I know---but there is Six Flags New England. Unless the park is unusually slow, I do not recommend going there. Although the park has the best steel coaster on the face of the Earth (Superman: Ride of Steel), the park's operations are very inconsistent and often very poor. The first day I spent at SFNE was wonderful---could not have been better. Then I pushed my luck and went back again. It was nothing like the first day at all---and in fact, I have never heard of anyone having a such great day there as I had the first time I visited. But if you must go, the park has a very good pair of wooden coaster, a decent flat ride collection, and a new coaster called Batman: Dark Knight which actually looks very good. Canobie Lake was also a surprise for me. I *loved* their wooden coaster Yankee Cannonball so much it has landed in my Top 20 wood (out of 90). They have a decent flat ride collection and one dark ride, plus two water rides. It was a very relaxing, clean, fresh looking nostalgic park, with a great feel of New England. BTW, Whalom Park is now closed, and it is uncertain whether it will ever reopen again. betsylou 08-28-2002, 06:07 AM soooooo much for all the information! I can see I have a lot of reading to do! And a lot of trips to plan!!! |
