View Full Version : October (Utah UEA) or end of June?
kingqueen 3princesses 02-16-2008, 03:32 PM More crowd and weather questions...:)
We're thinking either June 23-27 or October 15-18.
We already have a trip planned the 17-21 of November...the last one before our AP's expire. I want to go sometime before that in June, July, August, or October. After searching and reading on this board I think July and August would be the worst choices; leaving June or October. October would have to be during Utah's UEA break and include a Saturday. How would crowds at that time compare to the end of June M-F?
Am I thinking along the right lines? Would you choose the June or October dates? Or please enlighten me if I've missed something.
MammaSilva 02-16-2008, 04:54 PM If I already had a trip for November, I'd go with the June dates, the weather is nice that time of year, dealing with UEA in October makes the weekend feel like mid summer anyway and at least the HM is 'iffy' for being up with the NBC layover...June you could ride the HM without the layover then ride it WITH the layover in November. Summer means you could take advantage of your hotels pool/spa area a bit more comfortably. Just a couple things to ponder.
SolarSurfer 02-16-2008, 05:24 PM I live in Utah, so I can tell you UEA is a really bad time to go. Just about everyone here goes (not us, of course, but we're smarter than the average Utahan ;) ) So if you want to deal with the entire population of Utah I'd say go for it (sunday will be ok :p) but otherwise steer clear.

kingqueen 3princesses 02-17-2008, 02:58 PM Thanks for your responses! OK--how important is missing a week of school? (I don't really want answers to that!:))
I don't want the UEA crowds in October--I'm worried about them in June too, but I would rather go with crowds than not go at all...and I'd rather take them out of school than go with crowds and heat. So, if I take them out of school, would you go the second week of September (8-13)? Would almost everyone avoid July and August?
Yes, I'm confused but if possible want to get Entertainment rates at HOJO's without booking more weeks than needed and without waiting so long I miss out on them.
Thanks for your opinions!
MammaSilva 02-17-2008, 03:06 PM I think really what are the big things you care about? Fireworks, the Electrical parade...Fantasmic? If those things are important you want to balance the crowd levels with the loss of nightly entertainment that will happen if you wait til September. Not only that, the park hours are 'shorter' based on the idea that the crowd is lighter, more areas are on shorter hours ...and the refurb scheudule usually picks up right after Labor Day.
I don't have a problem with missing a week of school for a family vacation but at the same time considering the expense is pretty much the same but for the hotel I want the full experience that I'm paying for.
kingqueen 3princesses 02-18-2008, 08:42 AM Thanks for your thoughts--it's nice to have somebody say, "Did you think about this?" Although I want to have it all--low crowds, good weather, all the shows...:) I'm still trying to figure out the best situation for us.
MammaSilva 02-18-2008, 08:51 AM Figuring out what works best for your family is what all of this is about...you take in all the factors, think about each issue and then say ok, if we go in X we deal with this but have this, if we go in X we don't have X but we don't have X either...it's all about which aspects carry the most importance...and EVERYONE of us wants, low crowds great weather and full on entertainment but I think those days died so long ago only Walt would remember them! LOL!
kingqueen 3princesses 02-18-2008, 11:28 AM So, at this point, the title of my thread doesn't apply so much, but the last week of August--the 25th to the 30th--should it still be summer hours and show schedules? I'm zoning in to that week or the second one in September.
MammaSilva 02-18-2008, 12:15 PM I went to see how far out the resort calendar is, unfortunately it only shows thru June but I'd say that the last week of August they'd still be going with 'summer' hours and entertainment, after Labor Day would be very doubtful.
daveywest 02-19-2008, 09:06 AM Don't forget that UEA can also fall on Nevada Day weekend, so you get two states worth of extra crowds.
