View Full Version : Tell me "secret" place to watch fireworks
ginnyfavers 02-14-2008, 09:30 AM Hi everyone,
I'll be in DL for a conference in April, and we'll probably see the fireworks show *every* night for 5 nights, because my hubby is a fireworks nut!
At Walt Disney World, there's a "secret" place to watch them, back in the Toontown area, that he loves because it's close to the launch area so you really hear the guns and the shells break close enough to you to sometimes send a few embers your way. There's even a bench to sit on, because you're the only people back there while thousands are crowding together in front of the castle.
Don't get me wrong, we'll sample other viewing points like the traditional in front of the castle and on Main St. spots, like I said we'll have lots of days to see it over and over again.
Love to hear your favorite "nobody else around" spots for the fireworks. :-)
daveywest 02-14-2008, 09:43 AM A good, not so crowded place is back behind Dumbo.
VickiC 02-14-2008, 09:53 AM The fireworks are going to be every night in April?
ginnyfavers 02-14-2008, 10:36 AM Every night for our dates, April 7 - 12, yes, at 9:25 p.m. I didn't look at the rest of April.
Niwel 02-14-2008, 11:16 AM Right by the exit to Casey Jr. in Fantasyland ... you are between the launches for the fireworks and can see everything. :)
mycutekitties 02-14-2008, 02:10 PM We sat right by the Dumbo train and it was great!! You could see evrything and we had a place to sit too. :)
saucydiva 02-14-2008, 02:15 PM So the Dumbo part of Fantasyland is still "open" during fireworks? We have been ushered out of the dark ride/carrousel area for "safety" reasons...
Bytebear 02-14-2008, 04:04 PM I like Dumbo as well, but I still love right behind the Partners statue back toward the popcorn stand. I also really like in front of Small World (although now that it's closed, that may not be the best). For a unique experience, try down main street toward the Train Station.
AlbertaMinnie 02-14-2008, 07:14 PM We will be there as well for a conference the first week in April!
In August, we tried a new spot for viewing the fireworks.... In front of Small World. While our view of the fireworks wasn't optimal...there were projections to the music right onto Small World itself. Has anyone watched the fireworks from there recently? Are they still doing the projections?
The old man 02-14-2008, 10:57 PM No, it's a secret.
PanFan 02-16-2008, 01:21 AM Most of the rides in FL do close during pyro, but the area between the Carrousel and Dumbo remains open. Casey Jr. and the Tea Cups will stay open (along with the Matterhorn). When IASW isn't in rehab, it will sometimes be open, depending on winds. They are not currently doing projections onto the facade because of the big wall in front of it and that whole area is like a ghost town.
Another great spot is along the fence by SBL. You can't see perfectly, but you have an awesome view of the main stuff with very few people around. If you are in line for SBL, that's a great view as well. SBL doesn't close the line for pyro, but it does stop running the boats while the show is going on, so if you're on the canal when the show starts, you'll stay in one place on the boat until it ends (don't worry--you won't be stuck in a tunnel, but some of the spots are better than others). I like to watch from the fence rather than the boat because you don't know where you'll be when it starts, and right by Monstro is the best viewing in that area.
DangerMouse 02-16-2008, 09:10 AM I liked the view we had from the exit que to BTMRR. Watching the fireworks over the peak of Big Thunder Mountain was really cool. Then again, I like watching them while I'm on the mountain rides (Splash, BTMRR, Matterhorn). Lots of fun!
jackaroosmom 02-18-2008, 08:00 PM I found this by accident the other night! We were trying to get out of California Adventure after the Electrical Parade and had to drag sleepy children through huge crowds all trying to get to Disneyland for the fireworks.
We had to stop and sit by the big sun fountain (don't know the name) and while we were waiting for the crowd to lessen, the fireworks started. We had a lovely view, framed by the Golden Gate Bridge.
It was amazing! We have seen the fireworks many times so we didn't mind missing a small portion of it that is blocked out-you really do see most of it!
To be able to sit was divine!!!!

The last time we watched the fireworks were were in front of IASM. The projector was working wonderfully.
I would say to the OP that you could always try the area in front of Toon Town. They launch the fireworks fairly close to that area and we've seen a lot of people in the past waiting there. We use the area in front of Toon Town because you can still hear the music. I would also recommend that you could always try 5 different locations during your five nights. This will allow you to get the feel of different locations. I also remember watching from the Tomorrowland area. You could try the second level of Innoventions for a higher advantage point.
