Help! My husband and I will be at Disneyland in April for a work conference for me. His birthday will fall on a Tuesday, after a busy day of conferencing, I think I'll be free to join him in the parks around 5:30 p.m. that day.

My problem is, I'm totally stumped as to what to do for him! There's no Fantasmic that night, so I can't get him special seating, he does NOT like to go out to eat at sitdown restaurants (he'll go but only as a nice gesture towards me, it's no treat for him), it's too late in the day for any special tours...

There are fireworks at 9:25 p.m. Is there any special viewing or something Disney offers around that I could get for him? He LOVES fireworks, so that's a must do that night.

All he wants for his birthday present is either a magazine subscription or a bread machine, neither of which I can lug out to California to present to him, so I'm thinking maybe getting him something out there he wants would be more fun, but I won't be able to shop without him... I guess I could take him shopping and give him $100 Disney Dollars or something like that in a card that evening. Where do you get Disney Dollars in advance, like before we leave for the trip? Can I have them mailed to me?

Is there anywhere to order a cake or go eat cake?

We're staying off property, on Katella Ave.

OK I know that was a lot to read, thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Since he already wants something from outside the park, just get him a set of mouse ears that say "Birthday Boy" and require that he were them.

If going to a nice restaurant would't meant much to him I wouldn't do it.

Would disney dollars mean much or would he rather have the subscription or bread machine. If it's the latter I would have it at home for him (without him knowing) and just bring a nice card with a picture of the present.

If he loves fireworks, try and make it extra special. Stake out a spot early, bring a blanket and stop and get some yummy desserts & hot cocoa to enjoy while you wait for the fireworks. Have fun!

As for mailing Disney Dollars, they will but they charge you for it, since you have all day before your celebration you could walk over to the World of Disney and buy them with out any surcharge. As for doing something special for him on his birthday, double check to make sure fireworks will be offered that night and consider doing a tour with reserved seating for the fireworks or like someone else has alreay mentioned, gather up some treats and a ground cover and go 'camp' for the perfect view point for the show.

consider doing a tour with reserved seating for the fireworks

I can't seem to find anything like that on Disneyland's website? Do you mean a morning/daytime tour that would give us reserved firework seating later that night? I can't go on anything during the day, my conference runs from like 7 am to 5 pm daily.

OOPs my bad, I 'missed' that part, yeah a tour would be off the option list, camping out with some munchies would be your best choice.

If your husband is not going to the conference with you - what about sending him on one of the tours that he might like? If there is nothing exactly to his liking, you could also set him up with a VIP tour guide for 4 hours. (Its like having concierge follow you around and cater to you). It would be a lot of fun if he's a Disney fan - he can learn all the trivia he wants!
They also have a segway tour at Cal Adventure.

You could tell him about the tour that morning (Or if more practical, the night before). When you book the tour, you could inquire about getting reserved seating for the parade or whatever you wanted to do with him that evening.

On your way to meet him - purchase some yummies that he would like to eat during the fireworks or parade - perhaps some fudge from Main Street??

Oh, and if you do the VIP Tour, DO let them know its his birthday. My VIP made me wear a birthday button - I did it to be a good sport, and ended up loving it. She made cast members stop and sing me happy birthday - all in good fun - and I just felt really special.

There is a WONDERFUL mile-high chocolate cake at The Golden Horseshoe. :) And there are plenty of yummy baked treats at the Blue Ribbon Bakery on Main Street.

Maybe you can arrange to have something special set up at the hotel room for later in the evening? Champagne, etc.?

Also, if you have a Disney store near you, I think you can get Disney dollars there.

Have fun!
