There are 5 of us...all paying adult fare on the shuttle...

Has anyone here taken a taxi from LAX recently? How much did it cost you?
I am trying to determine if it would be a faster/cheaper or equal alternative rather than taking the shuttle bus.....

Does anyone know what the taxis from the airport charge per mile?

Ideas? Opinions?

Thanks!:D

The trip from LAX to Anaheim can be a long one, depending on traffic, so I wouldn't recommend taking a cab. There are two basic options - Super Shuttle or Disneyland Resort Express Bus.

Super Shuttle is a shared van service, meaning that your family will probably share the van with other travellers who are headed in the same direction as you. From LAX, the shuttle is $16/person one way, $32/person round trip (plus tip). I'm not sure if there are discounted rates for children. On the MouseSavers Site (http://www.mousesavers.com/shuttle.html#shuttle) there is a link to a coupon that will get you $2 off per person, which is valid until the end of April.

The DL Resort Express Buses are very easy to spot at the airport. The are gigantic tour buses with Disney characters on the side - very fun! This service is $19/person one way or $28/person round trip for adults and $16/person one way, $20/person round trip for children (plus tip). MouseSavers (http://www.mousesavers.com/shuttle.html#dlrexpress) has a link to a coupon for this service as well, which will save you $3 per person.

We have used both services on our trips and had no problems with either of them. Typically, the wait at the airport is longer for a shuttle than it is for the bus (at least that is how it seemed to us). One note - the DL Resort Express bus will go to the DL hotel first, where everyone will pay, and then you will be taken to your specific hotel. This can add some time to the trip. The shuttles do not stop at the DL hotel, but will stop at any of the other hotels were passengers are staying, according to location.

Hope this helps!

Thanks Fellow Edmontonian!

I'm just not crazy about taking the bus! Although those characters look cute on the outside....they block my view from the inside! The last time we flew and took the shuttle, it was with a travel agent and we had vouchers....Did you book it in advance or just walk outside and get on?

I totally agree about not being able to see thru the graphics!!! We choose a van type shuttle now for that reason, and also because there is a good chance you will only have one other group in your van which means less stops on the way to your hotel.

5*16 = $80. At this price, perhaps you should check into a limo. The guy I have used in the past (J Limo) only has town cars and he charged $65 one way but if you go to limos.com you can get price quotes for limos that can hold 5 people and see if it is cost effective for you.

A taxi from LAX is about $100 plus tip in medium traffic, in the middle of the night, somewhere around $80 to $85, and can get over $120 in heavy traffic.

With 5 people even a 1 day rental car might be a cheaper easier method, if there is someone willing to drive in LA. Just find a company with Anaheim offices, a number of them do including Hertz and Avis, maybe even at your hotel. I just did a quick price check a 1 way rental for Avis would run about $80.

Rental Cars, you can do one way rentals from many major companies, they all have offices in the area.

Keeping the car and returning it to the same airport, I like using Hotwire.com to check the low rates on the exact dates of my trip.

Glad to help out a neighbour! :)

As for the shuttles, you definitely have to book them for your return trip, but I'm not sure if it makes a difference for your arrival. I know that you can book one, but I'm not positive what would happen in the event that your flights were late or something like that. When we used the shuttles (and we've done so more than once) we didn't make a reservation and had no difficulty.

When you walk out of LAX, there is concrete "island" with color-coded signs spaced apart from one another. Buses come to one color, taxis to another, shuttles to another, etc. Shuttles that pull up along side the pick-up point will have a sign saying where they are heading. When you see the one marked "Disneyland Resort Area," that's the one you want.

If you are planning on doing more than just Disney during your stay - for example, if you plan on going shopping or to the beach, etc. I would recommend looking into renting a car. It may work out cheaper in the end for the 5 of you. If you don't do so at the airport, and happen to change your mind, there are car-rental places in nearby hotels.
