There is currently a big outpouring of concern, through letters, emails and phone calls. I don't think the game is over by any means. The LA Times article woke up a lot of people.
I agree that the Disney Channel could care less about the Vault, but they do care about public opinion and public perception.
I don't know if anyone caught NBC TV last night in their overnight news programs, but it related to the history of Disney. They replayed some of their reports from the 1980's & 90's concerning Disney World, etc. (Yes, I was taping Zorro on another TV set).
I believe the amount of public sentiment may be large enough to enter into the mainstream consciousness. That's what will have to happen before it will be brought back.

The NYPost ran a short version of the LATimes article under the headline:
"Disney Makes Big Kids Cry"
I love it that Vault Disney is generating more emotional press than ABC's stillborn Fall Schedule.

The full article was in today's (Sat.) New Orleans Times Picayune. At least they are getting the word out.

I was shocked to read this:
"The Disney Channel is a service for kids and their families; it's not a general entertainment service for everybody," said Richard Ross, president of entertainment for the Disney Channel. "We can't be all things for all people."
Well Disney, you've really mucked this one up.
Let me get right down to it: The current Disney Channel is spitting on the Disney name as a whole.
Comment from a once proud viewer who signed the petition:
"It isn't so much the old shows I miss, it's the QUALITY ... I grew up with the Disney channel of the late 80's/early 90's, and the whole format was sophisticated and directed at a FAMILY audience instead of a
small group of kids ... Walt Disney created many things in the hopes of bringing families together ... The current Disney channel has lost sight of that. Sadly, they?ve lost the Disney vision in many things... "
The company today preaches about family, yet at the same time ignores the very aspects of family entertainment upon which they were built.
When the Disney Channel began to ignore these ideals, they helped to stop the Disney name from flourishing. Not just as a company; Flourishing into what it was destined to be.
But also as a man; What he was always meant to be. Future generations will never know Walt Disney's genius.
What once was meant as a tribute to this has been remade into a cheap Nickelodeon. What was once a nchannel known for quality theme park specials, animated movie marathons and Mickey Mouse cartoons is
now infamous for bathroom jokes, over-acting 'tweens and something called a zoog.
What's worse, the Disney Channel wants to get rid of Vault Disney, the late night block of vintage Disney shows and movies, on September 10th. No longer will we see anything even related to classic Disney on the
Disney Channel, as it will soon be replaced by more "crazy" pre-teen antics.
Please sign the petition, get company mailing addresses and join the campaign at:

If they do away with "anything" classic, then transform ABC Family into Walt Disney Family and put old Disney Channel style programming there.
But please, Disney, do not ignore your heritage.
"It is not myself I am thinking about, but it is the affect of what might happen to whatever is left that bothers me"

From the LA Times:

I'm not sure what this "double speak" means, but he's figured out how to build ill-will with his potential viewers. In a business that relies on good-will, he has failed. Disney was always family entertainment for kids & their families.
They can't explain how they can program for a group of people (9-14 year olds) who won't even be there to watch the programs - they'll be asleep!!
At 1 am, "I'll" be asleep!

I called the 800 number listed on this site to enquirer about the classic shows being removed from the sched. The Lady that i spoke to was very hostile about the negative input I gave, I presume she has had an ear full from viewers who don't like the change.
She told me that the overnight ratings they have recieved indicate that viewership has gone up since Vault Disney has been pulled in favor of "new" programing, and that TDC was now a children's channel catering to it's core demographic. I wondered out loud to her that she was implying that what Disney was airing before wasn't children freindly? I also asked if the 2a.m. time slot was 'prime time' for 8 year olds. She mumbled something about having to network feeds, and that this didn't apply to me as she didn't know which feed I have. I have DirecTV so I have BOTH feeds, plus Toon Disney. She didn't like hearing that either. From what I gathered it really annoyed her that we aren't thrilled to the changes. I hope the new stuff tanks... i mean really the recent Disney t.v. shows have very limited appeal and an even a shorter shelf life.
At least they can release them on DVD
The Disney Channel has been on a very slippery slope trying to be Nickelodeon. Boring

Viewership is up? There must have been a lot of people who wanted to see what the heck they were doing!! The "new programming" has only been on for ONE night. The Zorro marathon just ended.
If she has kids, my bet is they aren't up at 3:00 am watching TV.

This is a re-post of my earlier post from 8/27/2002 (earlier in this thread). I believe Gayle is Richard Ross's assistant. I've seen her name referenced on other boards as well.
"I spoke to a lady named Gayle at Disney Programming (ABC) who said they have gone to a 24 hour per day "childrens and family programming." She said this has been in the plans for some time. The "marathon" was just decided on. I told her I don't know of any children watching TV at 4 in the morning and she went on about how there are different time zones and kids who wake up early, etc. She said she's taken down my name and number, and they are keeping track of how many people call. She said the Vault may come back in some form in the future. I'm somewhat surprised she called me back long distance, but no good news to report."
