View Full Version : Fun Souvenirs at Downtown Disney
KSJayhawk 02-06-2008, 12:40 PM What are some of your fun, original-type Disney finds in DTD? For example, I loved getting our Disney-themed Mr. Potato Head pieces... a cool souvenir that was totally Disney, but not found outside of the parks. My UOG says that one of the stores has a set of Lincoln Logs that makes the Disney Wilderness Lodge. That sounds cool! What other fun things have you found or recommend?? (we'll be taking our 3 yr old son who adores Jungle Book and The Lion King... not so much into Pirates, yet) =)
steamboatpookster 02-06-2008, 12:58 PM I hate to say this, but Mouse Gear has those Mr. Potatohead pieces as well...
But to add to your thread--my wife always finds something that she can't find anywhere else, whether its clothes or jewelry.
Drince88 02-06-2008, 01:00 PM There are lots of cool things at Once Upon a Toy. My nephews (10,8,3 at the time) LOVED the build your own light saber, but they were not all that impressed with the selection at the Lego store (though they liked the big creations outside to look at).
Personally, I like to get a nice Christmas ornament each trip from the Christmas store. And last time we got an ADORABLE shirt for my youngest nephew (about 6 months at the time, I think just about everything that size is adorable, though). It said "I watch ESPN with my Daddy". They also had some that were "with Mommy" but I think all those ones were pink (plus my BIL watches ESPN, not so much my sister!)
tdelaney_98 02-06-2008, 08:19 PM The lightsabers were very popular in this house!
My older son LOVES his Haunted Mansion Clue game. I think there's a Pirates of the Carribbean Life game too.
cheshirecatgirl 02-06-2008, 09:04 PM I got the Disney Theme Parks version of Candyland for my soon-to-be-born niece at the Once Upon a Toy Store. But my fav thing there has to be the special Disney accessories for My Little Pony. It is just like the Potato Head pieces in that you get a box and fill it up, but it's all stuff for My Little Ponies! They have all the princess costumes and some other cute Disney stuff, like Minnie Mouse outfits, Mickey ice cream bars with pink ice cream, purple tea cups from Mad Hatter, Tinkerbell wings, Minnie ears with the pink, purple and blue streamers, even Ariel's fins! If you don't bother to take up space getting a pony, you can stuff that box full! I got enough for my three nieces with plenty left over for my own pony collection! The pony stuff is in the very back of the store, btw.
rashiz 02-07-2008, 07:04 AM I had a field day with the My Little Pony stuff as well which I believe is only available at Once Upon a Toy.
The Mr. Potato Head stuff is cool too, but that I can get in NYC.
UsBurchs 02-07-2008, 09:53 AM I didn't know about My Little Pony! I think I know what we're bringing back for my niece! We always get more Potato Head parts when we are at DL and it's one of the number one souvenirs on our list for WDW - so many parts, such a small box! ;) Do the CM's at WDW let you just fill the box with parts? I know it's kind of 50/50 at DL - some CM's do, some CM's don't. We lucked out this last time. We have three potatoes. We don't need any more! Just parts!
The other souvenir we always get to share with preschool is the Chip and Dale snack company snacks - Mickey shaped cheddar crackers, pretzles, etc. My DS loves the the cheddar crackers - I had a friend bring some home for me from her trip! (I think they are gross - cheddar goldfish are tastier!)
cheshirecatgirl 02-07-2008, 07:55 PM I have bought the Potato Head boxes three times and I never got the actual potato. It takes up too much valuable space! I get them at Wal-mart. But be sure to get the special arms at WDW that hold the accessories!
tdelaney_98 02-08-2008, 02:29 PM Another thought, albeit food-wise: The Mickeroni and Cheese (boxed like Kraft) is something like $3 a box. We buy a few and then have special "Disney nights" where we eat that and watch a Disney flick, followed by a game of Disney Scene-It II.
The boxes of chocolate dipped mickey pretzels (the nice ones) and the chocolate dipped coconut candies are DIVINE. Really, really excellent!
I remember getting these cute packs of cars decorated in the theme of Disney Characters and they kept me entertained while dad and I would sit at the table and wait for mom to get food and other moments like that.
I never knew you could build your own Light saber! Can you still do that? Or isn't it there anymore? Cause I'd totally be the only 15-year-old girl building one :p

Build your own light saber loved by my 9 year old son too but I thought jolly tricky stuff - had to engage a cast members help. The warning about the Lego shop is well placed. We had built my son up to this place as a real 'treat' and he was enormously disappointed. Now he's older and interested in individual bricks and his own creations he'll like it better and fill a tub, but last Easter it was not great - boxed selections pretty poor really.
The lightsabers were very popular in this house!
As above again; do you still love it so much now though Tina? Ours sets itself off at random, but mostly at night...

We bought this for DD and she spent the whole holiday playing with it - would have cost loads more back home. If you dress the pony in stuff you can fit more in. I'm confident we got one of everything in the box plus a pony and shut the lid!!
tdelaney_98 02-22-2008, 10:32 PM That's funny, scoobydooby. I just found said lightsaber TODAY in the middle of the living room floor IN PIECES!!!! Someone had the momentary lapse of judgment and decided to take it apart. I can't figure out how to put it back together!:geek:
freedrph0512 02-26-2008, 09:01 PM Don't forget to stuff the inside of Mr. Potato head too!!!!!!!!!! We got tons more that way!
