I'd like to head out to Tokyo in January and was wondering if anyone could recommend an inexpensive hotel somewhere in the Disney area? Does anyone have one that they like to stay at? I'm looking for something close to $50-$80 a night. Has anyone stayed at a good neighbor hotel?

I've never been there so I have no idea how the area is set up. My only concern is ground transportation from the airport to the hotel, park, ect.

Thanks for your help!

Hello from Japan.
Again it might be too late te reply though...
Do you want to stay in Tokyo Downtown, or closer to Tokyo Disney Resort?
and how many people do you have?
If you have many folks, it gets a little hard to find.
Also, it's weired for you that a hotel price shown in guidebooks or on-line resoreces or any in Japan is for just one person. NOT a room.
For example, when you have two people and find a hotel price 7200 Yen(approx. $60), you have to pay 14400 Yen(approx. $120).

Transportation depends on where you want to stay.
Narita airport is kind of far from Tokyo Downtown though,
there are shuttle bus services to Tokyo and also to Disney area.
It costs 2000Yen-3000Yen(approx. $16-$25).

Hope this help and sorry my poor English.

Hi, Lani-san!
Thank you for your reply and help.
Your Japanese is great!
I've known your Travelite webpage, which is great, too!
I'm so glad to be here:)

Ohayo Gozaimasu, dcadon!

If this is your first time to Tokyo Disney, you must be really excited! I have been to Tokyo several times on business, and to the Tokyo Disney Resort twice. I was just there in August 2002, an extremely busy time of year to visit the resort. I suspect that your visit will be much less crowded, and the prices for hotels a bit lower.

Regarding low-cost hotels near the resort, I don't know of any in the $60-80 price range. I stayed at the Urayasu-Brighton (a good neighbor hotel) for about $250/night one person. There was a hotel next door called the Shin-Oriental Hotel (another good neighbor hotel) which was a little cheaper but it was all booked up when I was there. These two hotels were conveniently located north of the resort. There was a free bus that went from the hotel to the resort, but I preferred to take the local train (right across the street from the hotel). The train drops you off at Maihama Station, and short walk to the DisneyLand entrance. You can take the monorail around the resort to get to the DisneySea entrance.

If you really need a low-cost hotel, you can find them much farther from the resort, but be prepared to spend up to an hour riding on the local train or bus. I have stayed at the Ochanomizu Inn in Tokyo, which is about $85/night one person.

You can get to just about any hotel from Narita Airport by taking a shuttle bus. After you claim your baggage and pass through customs, you will need to get some money exchanged, then stop by the bus counter near the exit. Tell them what hotel you want to go to, and they can help you.

If you need more details on the hotels I've mentioned or any other tips, please feel free to send me an e-mail.

With that kind of price range, it will be VERY difficult to book a room near TDR. However, you have a couple of options.

The Urayasu Sun hotel is very reasonably priced, and is located in downtown Urayasu. The downside is you have to take a bus (about a 15 minute ride) to Maihama station, which is essentially the gateway to the Tokyo Disney resort. You can take the number 9 bus...and I think there are a couple of others. This is fine during the day, but at the end of the day the last bus back to Urayasu downtown is at about 10 o'clock...after that you are looking at around a twenty dollar taxi ride.

However, you will be much more centrally located to the downtown area of Urayasu, and there are lots of fun places to eat and drink there if that means anything to you and your group, it's a LOT more "traditional Japanese" style then either Maihama, or Shin-Urayasu (basically a big mall town, three minutes down the tracks from Tokyo Disney Resort, which is where the Brighton and the Oriental are located), as well as having access to the "Tozai" line subway which heads to downtown Tokyo and can (depending on where you want to go) be more convenient than the "Keiyo" line which runs by TDR and stops at Maihama station.

Another option would be to look into hotels around the Tokyo station area...not too far from TDR (about 20 minutes or so on the train) and I've heard about several hotels in that area that are quite reasonable compared to most of Tokyo. An advantage to that area is that you are conveniently located near Ginza (a very famous shopping and tourist zone) and Akihabara (the world renouned "Electric Town") where you can find all kinds of electronics, gadgets, and gizmos, and is a great place to sightsee and window shop in even if you don't buy anything.

Good luck!
