FAREWELL TO OUR WHITE SHARK

For the third time, we've said farewell to a young white shark after
it spent a few months with us on exhibit.

The male shark was released in Monterey Bay this morning,
162 days after he was placed in our Outer Bay exhibit. During his
stay, more than 650,000 people got a chance to see him, and to learn
more about white sharks' amazing adaptations for survival--and the
threats they face in the wild.

He's carrying a tracking tag that will report back in five months with
detailed information about where he travels, and the depths and water
temperatures he favors. Those data will add to our understanding of
juvenile white shark behavior in the wild.

You'll find details online. And, if you missed seeing him, we'll
resume our white shark field project this summer. We hope to tag more
animals, and to bring a fourth white shark back for another short
stay in Monterey.
