My daughter is 5 years old and we are going to WDW in May. I know that she will not be able to walk everyday that we are there and that she will get tired. therefore, i wopuld like to bring a stroller instead of renting one everyday. I was worried that she will look like a big kid in a stroller, but she is actually pretty petite. She barely weighs 40 pounds. I have been looking, but I feel like her legs are too long and that her head sticks up a little in the back. Some of the strollers can hold a child up to 55 lbs but she is still too long, and I don't think she is that tall. I had read some revies somewhere else and people suggested a Combi and I tried them out in Babies R Us and they were pretty small. I just want something that she will fit in reasonably and that her feet won't be hanging or dragging.

Please help!!!!! I appreciate any advice!

This may be out of your budget but I love my Maclaren Triumph. It's a lower end Maclaren that is like an umbrella stroller but sturdier, has a basket, and folds away into nothing.

I was looking at Maclarens last weekend and thought they seemed to be the biggest, but her legs still hun, but so far it is the best option. It is a little pricey since I probably won't use it much after the trip, but worth trying to find a deal on. Thanks.

while you are talking strollers - I was wondering if anyone had oppinions on the stand and sit versions that have the one seat and the little place for a kid to stand or sit below your arms. We will no longer need our double after this trip (YEAH!!!!) so we want to graduate to a smaller stroller but still want the option of the 5 year old riding if need be - Thanks

I just read this. I would definitely get one if I had another child.

You can try craigslist for a used McClaren, you may get lucky.

The Maclaren strollers tend to accomodate taller kids. My 6yo who is tall for his age, rides comfortably in my Maclaren Ryder. The Ryder is no longer made but you can find them on eBay from time to time. You can also look at the Maclaren Quest or Techno.

My DS is nearly 5, 45 lbs and 46 inches tall. We just had to buy a new stroller because he also happened to break his foot and no way can I carry him!

I tried the Combi, the McLarens and fell in love with the Graco Ipo. Goes to at least 50 lbs and has no front bar thingy which kept hitting his knees (the Combi). It also has a very solid foot rest that doesn't come anywhere near the wheels so it doesn't rub and won't stretch out. It folds like an umbrella but has a basket underneath instead of a bag off the back.

We've had it about 3 weeks and I've literally driven him everywhere in it. It was worth every single penny!

Thank goodness for this thread! I was just thinking about this the other night - my three-year-old is really tall for his age (42 inches, 45ish lbs) and he barely fits in his old stroller. We try to get him to walk as much as possible, but he's only three - his little legs can only take so much! :) Daddy's shoulders start to hurt after about 15 minutes of walking around with him. I'm going to check into some of these suggestions! Thank you sooooooo much for posting!

I was just at babies r us with my 3.5 year old, looking for something to replace the babytrend he just grew out of by weight.

Both the MacLaren and Graco were good. It's possible the Mac was a skosh better...smoother turns, better handling...but both were good all the same.

As a head's up...the Graco was up on the tall display, and had its wheels locked in front. Since I've never dealt with those sorts of wheels, I didn't know they were locked, and could barely steer the thing at first. Though "oh gosh, this is horrible, even worse than the Combi!" (we had a just-retired style combi in August and consigned it before we even got to disney, b/c it was so difficult to handle for us) Then I tried the Mac, then a salesguy came over and showed me that the Graco's wheels were locked. That is when i realized they were very similar.

The Graco goes to 50 lbs, if my memory serves, and the Mac goes to 55 lbs, and comes with the rain shield, I believe.

partyoffive - in regards to a sit and stand stroller, we have the joovy caboose and have loved it. My kids are 2 and 5 and we live in an area where it's not really safe for the 5 year old to walk. This stroller has been great and easily supports the weight of both kids, I think it goes up to 90 lbs combined weight. It folds down pretty well and is really easy to manuver (sorry about the spelling) with both kids (we've even had 3 kids on it before and it was still pretty easy to use). We actually bought it after seeing our friends and realizing just how well it works for them. Two draw backs is if the 5 year old wants to nap in the stroller, there really isn't anywhere for them put their head except maybe the canopy and you can't open and close the front bar without taking the whole thing off and putting it back on again. Anyway, I use our stroller almost every day and it has worked really well. We are going to Disneyland in April and plan on taking it with us. I know there are other models so take a look around and see what works for you!

Thanks for the info! I will look into this model - my two stroller age children will be 2 and 5 so this was perfect!

Yes the Maclarens go to 55 lbs., most of them. The XLR does go to 65 lbs. But my oldest DS, he is 6, is over 55 lbs. and I have no problem pushing him in my Ryder.

Thanks for all the wonderful info:) When I went to Babies R Us the Graco was up too and I didn't bother taking it down. I may have to. I would love the Maclaren but the Graco is so much more budget friendly.

We test-drove both again last night (DH was with us this time), and he has declared the Maclarens better. But we also had a chance to fold them up, and found that the IPO folds just like the Maclaren, like an umbrella stroller. The foot-rest of the IPO wasn't as solid as I thought!

Since I liked both and DH favored the Mac, that's what we'll be getting by May (our next DLR trip...we don't use a stroller anywhere else except for jogging and have a jogging stroller for that). But the IPO was really good, too!!!!! (we're making it up to Graco by getting their brand new Nautilus 3-in-1 seat as soon as it comes out at babies/toys r us, LOL)

After "trying them on" this weekend, we've decided on the Mclaren Volo - up to 55 lbs and my son seemed to fit in it the best. It was on sale for $99 online - so we're getting it there. We tried the Graco Ipo, but his shoulders seemed squished. Several we tried (such as a really nice Combi - cool fold) was great in the shoulders, but had NO leg room what-so-ever and the seat was shallow. He was hugging his knees because the foot-rest was like three inches from the seat! The Mclaren has a deep seat that is sort of angled up and the foot-rest was lower, allowing for his long legs. He liked the sunshade too. I really appreciate all the great "big-kid" stroller tips here - so does my son! :)

This may be too late but another idea is to get a Disney Visa, one of the benefits is two free stroller rentals each day in the park. The strollers easily accomadate older children and some belongings. WDW offers a twin version.

You have to show your Visa card and ID each time but it only takes a few minutes to get your rentals.

Is the Volo the one that is mesh? The mesh one wasn't strong enough when my daughter sat in it. Let me clarify, she is petite, but she would lay her head back to check for comfort...haha and since it was mesh, it basically started to fold.

My frustration is mainly the feet/legs. If she just lets them hang they seem to hang past the footrest. (I have had annoying experiences in the past with her feet hitting the wheels and I get so frustrated and then she does it on purpose and that gets me even more annoyed) Plus, I just don't ant her to look too big in the stroller overall. And, of course the main thing is that it does it's job:)

DS said the mesh on the volo was itchy, crunchy and weird. You can buy a cover for it but at that point, our total would have been close to $150!!! He liked the Ipo and while his shoulders were a bit squished, he didn't care about that as much as itchy.

How old is your son? What about height/feet hanging with the IPO?

Well, we're going to go try out the Volo again today - found one at a local store . . . if he still likes it, we'll get it. I'll make sure to check out the head bit and the "itchiness" of the mesh . . . I'm glad you all reminded me of that before we bought it! I see that the 2008 version doesn't have as much mesh and only costs $15 more . . . might be worth it. Thanks for the "heads up"! LOL

My son will be 5 in April. He's 45 lbs and 45 1/2 inches tall. His feet rested very comfortably on the Ipo footrest without his knees up too high. But even if he hangs his feet over, they don't touch the ground. The footrest keeps them from hitting the wheels on accident too. In our old cheap umbrella stroller he was forever dragging his feet on the wheels.

Try Sears I found nice small, tall backed strollers there before when I needed one.
My kids have always been walkers so after 2 they wouldn't ride any more. :( slow going for mom!(country kids, they run alot!) But I always kept a spare just in case!(for farm show)
hope you find something you like!

I realized we would need a nother stroller for my 4 year old after reading this thread. Do the Maclarens recline? All of the designs seem to be great - not sure which is best. Also, does the Graco Ipo recline? I hate to spend this much on a stroller for just one trip - if any one has a suggestion on how to find one cheaper, let me know!

I don't remember about the Maclarens but the Ipo does recline. It doesn't go flat, but there is a sliding strap on the back that you can adjust for reclining if your child falls asleep.

Try craigslist if you are in a big city for a cheaper stroller! Also some places rent baby supplies when you're traveling to be delivered to your hotel. It may or may not be cheaper. The reason we went stroller hunting was my son just got out of a leg cast and can't walk very far without getting tired. We really needed a stroller for the airport and renting wouldn't help that.
