View Full Version : Carousel of Progress and Country Bear Jamboree
Terri 02-05-2008, 06:25 AM As a longtime DL patron - these are two "rides" close to my heart. I cannot wait to see both of them -
Now...here's the questions to all you WDW pros out there.
1) Is there a chance that either will be "seasonally" down during the 1st half of August?
2) Will the show at the Country Bear Jamborie be the original or will they substitute a "seasonal" show for the summer? Nothing NOTHING is better than the original show!
And one more...Is it true that the people mover is operating at WDW MK? THE peoplemover?!? The slow...4 or 5 car little trains that you board from a circular, moving platform of "the future" and then the cute little white roof lowers and, non-zoom you are off on an adventure around a concrete path? Please tell me YES. My son thinks I'm nuts - but we just loved them when we were in high school. We'd ride it to rest and try and find our friends while they were walking. Then the big eye in Adventures through inner space...but I know that's gone forever...
danyoung 02-05-2008, 06:31 AM I'm pretty sure that the Bears show is the original, and that they're not changing it seasonally. I know they didn't do the Christmas show this past season, so I don't think they do the change for the summer. And I agree with you - of all three shows, the original is the best!
And YES, the Peoplemover is indeed running in WDW, as it has since 1971. It's a bit different than the DL version you remember. There are no pivoting roofs on the cars - the entire outdoor portion of the track has a roof. The sound system for the ride is in this roof, not in the cars. And instead of rotating wheels embedded in the track, you now have a linear induction system (basically a series of big magnets) that pull the cars along. It's very smooth!
You might also be happy to learn that the Astro Orbiter (the StarJets) is on the central pylon up on top of the Peoplemover loading area, right where it should be!
GusMan 02-05-2008, 06:34 AM Both the CoP and CBJ should be fully operational when you go. Of course, that is all subject to change. CBJ does not do a summer seasonal overlay from what I recall.
The TTA - Tomorrowland Transit Authority (http://www.mouseplanet.com/guide.php?pg=BCG108) is what you are referring to. And as simple as it is, it is a ride that provides a nice break from walking around and you get to see some of the sites as well.
Terri 02-05-2008, 07:26 AM YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D
It'll be like the 70's all over again!
petesimac 02-05-2008, 07:46 AM YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D

But sadly, without "If You Had Wings":crying:; I miss it so.
ElephantEars 02-05-2008, 10:23 AM I love this ride! And the best part is that I have never waited more than 5 minutes for it even during busy Spring Break weekends! No lines = even more relaxing!
And even though there is a roof, I hardly noticed it. The visibility is pretty good to see what is going on below you.
bradk 02-05-2008, 03:19 PM just a shameless self promotion, but if you save your vacation dates at http://www.stitchkingdom.com/refurb , you'll get an automatic email notification when changes to the refurb schedule occur that potentially affect your trip.
assuming disney ever updates their list again.
nvmom 02-06-2008, 08:57 AM Gosh, I am way excited to check out this "People Mover-Tomorrowland Transit" Having never been to DLR as a child, I've only heard about it...

I actually prefer the Vacation Hoedown to the original show.
There's a chance anything can be closed at any given time, but it is unlikely in August that either of those will be. I have been going to WDW since 2005 and the Carousel of Progress (far and away my favorite ride) has only been closed once between then and now, as far as I know. And that time it was to add new seats in a couple of the theaters.
And yes, it is cool being able to ride the Peoplemover again! :D
I have not been on the Carousel of Progress. I have experienced its Disneyland replacement (America Sings, which I loved..."Who Shot That Hole In My Sombrero?") many times. I will have to check it out this trip. And I love the Country Bears (okay I hated the movie). I made sure to experience it with the kids on the last trip. And I will have to do it this year.
scoobydooby 02-14-2008, 03:10 PM Ok, the history/DL comparison is completely lost on me but I'm pretty sure that what you refer to as the People Mover is the ride where you get to see the people's faces within Space Mountain - fabulous!!! I would go on it just for this and to have the children's undivided attention while we discuss what's going to happen for the next portion of the day. Excellent view also.
SCTrojan65 02-14-2008, 08:20 PM Interesting how certain attractions have long been closed at D/L due to being "outdated" or not as popular, but some of these same attractions remain open, and are seemingly quite popular at WDW.
At D/L there seems to be a number of attractions taken out and not replaced with anything of interest, or replaced at all. COP/Sings sat vacant until Innoventions went in, and it seems like that one is not real popular. The PeopleMover track has sat idle for a long time. Subs was gone for quite a while. Mission to Mars.
I know Peoplemover broke down a lot when I worked at D/L through the 80s and early 90s, and I know that interest in Sings and Mission dropped off. Still it would seem that having something there is better than nothing. After Sings closed I was constantly asked where the "revolving" attraction was with the singing animals. I was even asked by some about the COP, which had been there prior to Sings.
I also seem to remember the lines at Subs as being always long, even up to the point when they were closed. But then the Sub lagoon sat empty for a long time.
It seems D/L gets the short end of the stick much of the time though. Being that it's the original, it should be THE showplace. I know WDW has much higher attendance and draws most of the east coast and European crowds....it is indeed THE Disney resort.
I don't think this should keep D/L from being given the attention it deserves as the original. Tomorrowland was quite the dead area for quite a while. This didn't seem right.
Happily it does seem like they're starting to give the CA park a little more of the attention it deserves. Which is a good thing.
biolabetty 02-14-2008, 10:05 PM While I enjoyed seeing the Country Bears and the Carousel of Progress a few weeks ago, I didn't really enjoy the MK. I felt that DL had so many things that were better experiences, and we went there once and then spent the majority of our time at the other 3 parks. When I saw Tomorrowland there, it struck me that it was really DL's Tomorrowland in the 70's. I noticed some differences in the DL Country Bears' characters' performances, there was a stomach jiggle missing here, an eye movement that I always waited for there, and Trixie changed the type of glass she was holding. I took pictures of Big Al to show my kids who had never seen the show at DL, and couldn't come on our WDW trip.

Last time I was there , there was a woman taking her small children on this ...she told me that she told them that it was space mtn, and they were thrilled! They were very small...and I thought this was cute.
Tinkermommy 02-15-2008, 05:48 PM Hey, Terri, if you're going for the DL flashback experience, don't forget to climb the Swiss Family Treehouse.
The four former DL attractions were at the top of our "must do" list when I took my daughter to WDW for the first time in September. Believe it or not, Country Bears ended up being one of her favorite attractions there!
When we rode the TTA (which I still call the Peoplemover), the CM let us ride continuously, because there was absolutely no line. Great memory!
shawnarae 02-18-2008, 09:38 AM Wow, I love this thread! I can't leave the MK without going on the CoP, CBJ, TTA and Swiss Family. I am hoping one day maybe (sniff sniff) DL will turn Tarzan's Treehouse back into the Swiss Family's Treehouse. I absolutely loved climbing it as a child @ DL!!!
Hummmm.........anything else I am missing that MK has that DL has gotten rid of? Those 4 are it to my memory!
mckat 02-18-2008, 03:02 PM TTAt night is especially great- We love it, it is relaxing, almost no lines, view of the park and lights- what's not to love. And I also love the CoP- but it is the same nastalgic (sorry about the spelling) feeling as I have a many of the "hokey" rides. As far as being from DL vs MK- remember that MK is smaller in part because some of the rides are in other parks. I love that Walt walked an loved DL, but he also perfected his vision (in terms of controlling the enviornment around it) in MK. They both are great- why choose when we can have both.
emmah 02-18-2008, 09:59 PM I have just come back from my first trip to WDW and I LOVED the carousel of progress, and I LOVED LOVED LOVED the TTA; that was sooooo much fun. never had to wait at all for it, and it was a great relaxing ten minute trip around tomorrowland. it goes into attractions like SM and Buzz, and it goes quite quickly in places too which adds to the excitement. the CBJ was ok - I didn't feel the need to go more than once, and I am glad I know now what everyone is going on about.
