View Full Version : What does everyone think of these choices?
Terri 02-03-2008, 06:06 PM Okay...we have 6 dinners. It's our first trip to WDW and my son has determined (with a little help from me!) that we are going to do the following parks on this schedule:
8/3 - day of arrival: Animal Kingdom - Dinner at Yak & Yeti
8/4 - Epcot - dinner at Rose & Crown (we are requesting the patio so we can watch Illuminations
8/5 - Magic Kingdom - Liberty Tree Tavern
8/6 - disney Studios - 50's Prime Time Cafe
8/7 - Epcot - LeCellier Steakhouse
8/8 - Magic Kingdom - tony's Town Square
I know I need to make the reservations really soon so I need everyone's advice!
Thanks!!!:D
GusMan 02-03-2008, 06:29 PM Your choices look good.
Personally, 50's Prime Time is no longer one of my preferred choices for different reasons including overall food quality and service. Would much rather do Mamma Melroses or Hollywood and Vine. However, since you already have Tony's on your list, H&V would me my second choice.
ourtrip 02-03-2008, 06:35 PM i like most of them. i still like 50s especially if for your son if you're willing to play along a bit (have to totally disagree with hollywood and vine as a choice - subpar buffet imo). i would suggest you consider a restaurant at a resort. o'hana's at the poly or boma at AKL would be a nice substitute for liberty tree tavern or tony's town square.
it's all up to you in the end, so do some online searches and see what you and your son would best like.
skodousek 02-04-2008, 05:33 AM I don't mean to hijack the thread, but...
How is Yak & Yeti? Are there some items on the menu that are suitable for a very picky eater? :)

A recent review in The Orlando Sentinel really panned it. I have eaten there twice and one time had really bad service. You might want to do Boma in AKL as an alternate choice.
8/4 - Epcot - dinner at Rose & Crown (we are requesting the patio so we can watch Illuminations
Asking for patio on the reservation will not help. Also, you need a reservation no earlier than 7:00 and definitely no later than 7:30 to stand any chance of getting a patio seat for IllumiNations.
8/5 - Magic Kingdom - Liberty Tree Tavern
8/6 - disney Studios - 50's Prime Time Cafe
Just make sure you ask for a server who is into the entertainment.
8/7 - Epcot - LeCellier Steakhouse
If you can't get this, try Marrakesh or Teppan Edo.
8/8 - Magic Kingdom - Tony's Town Square
Personally I would go with the Kona in the Polynesian.
I know I need to make the reservations really soon so I need everyone's advice!
Thanks!!!:D

To go along with what CF said, here is a recent link (http://mousepad.mouseplanet.com/showthread.php?t=86987) about Y&Y.
I too would do a close to MK resort choice instead of Tony's in the Park. Kona or Ohana's at the Poly.
I love Rose and Crown-but for lunch rather than dinner. It's a r-e-a-l-l-y popular choice for Illuminations-and therefore can be really, really crowded as I believe they let everyone in R&C squeeze onto the patio to view. And you may not be successful getting your patio choice anyway. Don't get me wrong-I love the food and the service-just not sure about the crowded aspects of the thing.
My choice for TS on that AK day-Boma's at the AKL. Close bus ride from the Park; beautiful resort. And enough "different" choices to please the more adventuresome but enough standard choices to please others. Not sure I'd be spending a TS choice on Y and Y yet. If you want to check it out(and I would too)-you can do counter service there.
Terri 02-05-2008, 06:18 AM It was kinda cool listening to "He's a Tramp" while sitting on hold for the reservation desk.
The girl was wonderful and I got everything I wanted. Here's the rundown:
Yak & Yeti - 5pm
Rose & Crown - 7:30pm
Liberty Tree (our last character meal-probably forever!) - 6pm
50's Prime Time Cafe - 5pm
LeCellier Steakhouse - 5pm
Tony's Town Square - 6pm
I know everyone was suggesting to go over to a hotel for a meal, but ... as a Disneyland Long time Pro (been going since 1960) I really just wanted to immerse us in the parks. The entire WDW is so HUGE and overwhelming - that I know we could never do everything we want to do in the 5 full days we are there (2 travel days on either side for a total of 5 full and 2 partial). I could see a little of everything - or focus on a lot of just the parks. We chose the latter.
When going to DL - I can spend 5 days just in the one park (okay...I see DCA as another land...just a little harder to get to!) So, only spending the time we've alloted to 4 different parks is going to be tough enough. It'll be wierd doing it as a tourist. It's so off-kilter in my brain. Disney AND not knowing my way around...what a bizarre concept!
Next time I go...and there WILL BE A NEXT TIME...I will spend more time exploring the different resorts, pleasure island, waterparks, etc. This trip is strictly the 4 parks and our hotel. Anything else will be overwhelming!
I'll keep ya'll posted as the trip expands!
And for anyone going in August - welcome to the sweltering club!!!
ElephantEars 02-05-2008, 10:33 AM I really liked Tony's when I went a few years ago, simply because it felt like I really was dining in a restaraunt on Main Street. Because I was! Dinner was standard Italian food, but it was quite good if not super fancy (I had salad, pasta, and breadsticks.) And our server even sprinkled mickey confetti on our heads and sang to us in Italian when we were not celebrating anything.
Our last trip we did all "in the park restaraunts" and this trip we are doing half resort and half in the park. So we'll see which we like better.
Happy Dining!

Even though you're not doing any meals in the hotels, I still suggest you take the time to take the resort monorail loop once around, and gett of at each hotel (Contemporary, Polynesian, and Grand Floridian) and wander around a bit. There's plenty to see, and there will be plenty of other people wandering around, just like you. You won't regret it!
ZXReed 02-13-2008, 08:43 PM If you change your mind about the hotels, Ohanas at the Poly is great-especially if you get a table around the time of the MK fireworks--they dim the lights and run the same musical track as the park. We had a table by the windows, so it was a great view!! But even if you aren't seated by the windows it is a fantastic way to watch the fireworks.

We booked this precisely to see the Illuminations and had to wait a bit longer for our table when asking for an outside tablebut got it. (Got there 40 mins before ADR time and made the request). Didn't get the best view - all outside tables are NOT the same. There is a covered outside bit where we sat and the cover hides some of the higher stuff in the sky. However, there was definately no letting others from insdie the pub outside to squeeze onto the patio the night we were there. I wouldn't even let the children go to the uncovered outside bit until another guest invited them over to their table. My BF was there in December at a farthest possible outside table and said it was a perfect spot for viewing the show. She took my advice and lucked out better than I did!
