View Full Version : Epcot to MGM to Boardwalk...
jfoofj 02-03-2008, 01:21 PM I am busy trying to plan my game plan for our August trip... and I was wondering if Epcot, MGM, and the Boardwalk are all within walking distance of each other. If not, is there a boat that goes between any of them? I seem to recall hearing that there was, but the last time I went we bussed from MGM to EPCOT. I am thinking MGM on an early EMH day, then over to EPCOT with dinner either in EPCOT or somewhere on the Boardwalk. I didn't know if it was all doable in a day, or if I am being a bit overzealous. I know it is a long day, but it will be only one of our two really long days out of six. The other days we are either starting early, then calling it a day early, or we are sleeping in and doing an evening EMH in the Magic Kingdom.
Thanks!

GusMan 02-03-2008, 02:58 PM Epcot, Disney Hollywood Studios and the Boardwalk are all walkable from one to another. There are also boats available between the three as well.
As for your plans... depending on what you want to accomplish, its do-able. That is part of the flexibility of park hopping. Just do a little pre-planning as to what you want to do at each park and you should be good.
Cheshire Figment 02-03-2008, 05:32 PM The route of the boats are Epcot (International Gateway) - Boardwalk - Y&B - Swolphin - Studio - Swolphin - Y&B - Boardwalk - Epcot. And they run about every 20 minutes. The three hotel stops each have two lines, one for boats in the direction of Epcot and the other for boats in the direction of the Studio.
ourtrip 02-03-2008, 06:39 PM i understand the desire to park hop and the potential to "do a lot" in a single day. just keep in mind that all the travel time to and from, no matter how close, is still jsut travelling.
Drince88 02-04-2008, 05:32 AM Studios to Epcot is walk-able, but it is a hike. There is essentially no shade between the Boardwalk to the Studios, and if it's a warm day that section seems even longer to me - but if you 'just missed' the boat, you should beat it to your destination.
jfoofj 02-04-2008, 05:40 AM Again, thanks for the great info. I am glad to hear there is a boat that services all three areas, that will work out well for what I have in mind. Something about taking a boat is so much more appealing than a bus...
I am thinking of booking a dinner ADR at LeCellier and if we do Studios all day (counter service there for lunch) then go to Epcot for dinner, great. If we burn out early at the Studios and go back to our room(counter service there for lunch), that's fine too, we can just head into Epcot just for our ADR. As you can probably figure out, we are going to be on the dining plan.
I am trying to keep in mind how hot it will be and that we probably won't see as much as we did in November, but I'm not stressed about it because we were just there in November. We will do what we missed first, and the favorites from out last trip next, and see what happens.

...yup, it's about a one-mile hike from the EPCOT boat-dock to the MGM boat-dock -- and it's not an easy straight-line path.
But if you have the time, it's fun to explore the hotels & facilities along the way.
The boat ride is easy too, but very SLOW... they are fairly large boats, but move at a snail's-pace and make several stops between EPCOT-MGM.
I rode the roundtrip EPCOT-MGM boat about 2 months ago. Aside from the slow pace, I noticed the boat engines are quite noisy to passengers... detracting from what should be an enjoyable & scenic ride. Also, the interior cabin was very warm with little ventilation; there are a few choice outdoor seats on the stern -- but they get taken quickly.
That back gate at EPCOT seems a well kept secret from most park visitors (?)
biolabetty 02-08-2008, 10:18 PM We took the boat many times between the two parks, and enjoyed it very much. It isn't the quickest way, it does take around 25 minutes, but we like to park hop and didn't consider the studios a full day park. We aren't into shows, so once we'd done the few rides there were, there was really nothing else for us to do. However, our favorite restaurants were all at the Studios, so that's why we ended up there so much. If it weren't for that, one trip there would have been sufficient.
GoingCoastal 02-09-2008, 02:38 PM While Disney won't tell you, often the best way to park hop is to take a bus to a close by resort and then catch the bus from that resort to the other park. Ignore any directions from Disney that have you connecting at DTD. To route thru DTD is very slow and is a ploy to get you to shop at DTD.

That's actually how I got to DTD. I was at AK and asked our driver for the CSR bus the easiest way to get to DTD from there. He said the easiest was to catch the bus for AKL and then get the DTD bus from there.
