I just read a post stating it means **** you (http://mousepad.mouseplanet.com/showpost.php?p=1187826&postcount=20). However, if you look next to the smilie it says "blank". There is rarely a time I would truly say **** you and would like to know if that is indeed the true meaning of that smilie.

If you hover over the :| it says "blank". Since the point of a smilie is to convey the expression on the face of the person posting it, :| means "I have a blank expression on my face". That's the only intrinsic meaning. Any other meaning is implied by the person who posted it or the person who is reading it.

In my experience it is used to mean "you're being so stupid that I don't want to even respond to you but here I am doing it anyway."

Pretty much always used as a negative in my experience and never really as simply nonplussed. Kind of like the roll eye smiley.

I do think the smilies (and posts, for that matter) are all up for interpretation based on each of our experiences online, however, I would find it pretty out of character for MP to have a similie that means something that isn't very family friendly.

I only have one more administration-y thing to say about smilies, so I hope it's ok to say it on this thread. And that's to thank the mods for not allowing an animated "yammy" on board. That would be awful.
