View Full Version : Mall of America & Camp Snoopy
cirquelover 08-21-2002, 11:03 AM Can anyone tell me about Camp Snoopy at MOA? Do they have shows or is it just rides?
Are there any Don't miss things to do or see there?
Thanks for any info
Jill
FredofLasVegas 08-21-2002, 12:33 PM I was at Mall of America about 4 years ago for an evening. As far as I know there are no shows there, but I could be wrong. I was just far too interested in riding all I could there that night.
The one ride, you ABSOLUTELY must not miss, is their Paul Bunyan log flume---simply one of the best log flumes out there behind the one at Knott's Berry Farm and the 2 Splash Mtns. Their coaster, the Ripsaw, isn't anything great, but it does make for a nice scenic ride around the park.
Also, I hear KCS has an interactive dark ride called Ghostblasters (???). I love interactive dark rides, so be sure not to miss that one too.
efoxx 08-21-2002, 02:38 PM there is a theater inside camp snoopy but at the moment there is no show in it. there are several rides. mostly the kind you can find at carnivals. however there is a relatively good log ride (paul Bunyan's), the ripsaw rollercoaster (a rather tame coaster but will give a great tour of camp snoopy) boo busters ( a great cheap MIB ride) and a simulator ride that is not all that good. Camp snoopy is good for kids and fairly entertaining for adults for a while. but there are plenty of other stuff to do at MOA. underwater world is fun once, then there is some good themed restuarents (our fav is Odyssey), not to mention the shopping.
Copper 08-28-2002, 05:54 PM Yes I would definitely suggest Paul Bunyan's Log Ride, that's easily the best ride there. As for everything else, it's not real bad, but not all that great either. Still if it's your first visit, you'll want to try and do all you can I'm sure.
HTHBellcaptain 09-24-2002, 09:48 AM I went to the Mall of America shortly after it opened. I really enjoyed Camp Snoopy. I especially loved the Paul Bunyan log flume ride. I wasn't expecting it to be very good. I was pleasantly surprised.
Efoxx mentioned Underwater World. What is Underwater World? I've never heard of it before.
cirquelover 09-24-2002, 01:27 PM Thanks for your suggestions. We had lots of fun, could've spent a week at the mall trying to see it all!
I believe Underwater World is an aquarium, but you walk thru tunnels and are surrounded by fish, Efoxx can explain better I'm sure. I picked up a brochure but we didn't go in.
My son had a blast at Legoland, he went there three times, he loved building his own car and racing it. He ended up being scared of most of the rides at Camp Snoopy, so we just gave away our extra rides.
The mall was fun for him and grandma while his parents were busy with Cirque du Soleil , so it all worked out!
Thanks Everyone:)
efoxx 09-24-2002, 08:54 PM underwater world is a pleasant but expensive trip. it has changed owners since I was in it last, and I understand it has changed slightly so my info may be off a little, but here is how it goes.
you start off in a forest (pretty good theming for indoors under ground) in fall. as you descend deeper into the forest you see a beaver hut. you actually go into it. then you emerge next to a stream. complet with ice and typicall northern midwest fish. you continue to descend into the stream, and eventually you are in a tube surrounded by the aquarium. the stream turns into a river, and eventually the mississippi river. where you follow it down to the gulf and finally a coral reef, complete with sharks.
the whole time you are under water you are on a moving walk, so you have little control of how long you stay in one place. you wear a head set which plays the narration and explains what you see. you also carry a fish chart to help. when you are done you are left in a tide pool type area complete with a shop.
nice, takes about 30-45 min to see. expensive at $20 for that time.
daveinMN 09-27-2002, 10:57 AM I'm glad you enjoyed your trip. We live just 15 miles from the Mall of America, and we bought my two little girls annual passes for Camp Snoopy. We go there at LEAST once a week so my daughters can ride the rides and my wife walks around the Mall. 3.5 laps of the Mall is almost 2 miles![one lap =.57 miles] My wife and I have both held part time jobs there, and the atmosphere is pretty fun.
We are from California, Anaheim, and we don't mind big crowds. But most Minnesotans treat the Mall of America like it was made of people repellent. Most of the friends I have made since we got here in 1993 have only been to the Mall 1 time, the year it opened, just to see it. There are exceptions, but not many. I love the place. Lots of poeple, and lots of stuff to do and see.
It is great for shopping, and it helps that there is no state tax on clothing here, so a $5 shirt is $5. Most of the Mall's business comes from tourists, and Northwest Airlines offers 1 day trips to the Mall of America for a reasonable cost.
One more useless fact, they claim that the Mall of America is often the second most popular tourist desination, sometimes even tying with WDW. They claim up to 900,000 visitors per WEEK during the busy season.
Dave in Minnesohta, ya you betcha

I'll agree with expensive, not sure about pleasant....when I went about four years ago, they didn't have the headset thingies, but there were plenty of shouting children there that day. Normally that would not be a problem, but that tunnel really amplifies the sound! And boy, is it claustrophobic in there on a busy day.
We liked Camp Snoopy, though--it was really cool to ride a roller coaster inside a mall! It's especially great on a blisteringly cold Minnesota day.
