Kali River Rapids is very cool in the dark. Spooky & steamy. We had a great evening at EMH in AK.

Expedition Everest is pitch black at night. A whole different experience. :D

Yak & Yeti was also open later for dinner during EMH. It was nice to catch a couple of runs on Everest with virtually no line. There was only one extra show for Festival of the Lion King.

If you're going to do EMH, do all of the activities that involve live animals before the park closes. Anything that's on exhibit starts going to bed at around 3 - 4 PM.

I've noticed that Animal Kingdom is offering Extra Magic hours in the evening now. We are going to WDW in April and I've seen that AK is open til 8pm on most nights. Does anyone know how late the park is open on the Extra magic hours nights?

At Thanksgiving it was open until llpm. Note the Safari closes at Dusk and not all shows are open late. Mt. E is very crowded on late nights. It was dark in that park. The lighting was not really adequate for dark touring kinda like the solar lights for home brightness. The walkways are not exactly smooth there so caution to those with small children. It was kinda fun though looking at this place in the evening. We were there for the opening of Yak & Yeti and this I understand was the push for evening hours, otherwise lunch till 3 and dinner till 5 wouldn't work out well for this restaurant that obviously took a bundle to build. I believe while we were there before & during Thanksgiving Day that it was the first time for extra late night hours during the winter.

From the EMH page on the WDW site:

Each day one of the Disney Theme Parks opens an hour early or stays open up to three hours after regular Park closing.

(The following attrations should be open)
Disney's Animal Kingdom® Theme Park
Mornings:
DINOSAUR, Expedition Everest, It's Tough to be a Bug!®, Kilimanjaro Safaris, Pangani Forest Exploration Trail®
Evenings:
DINOSAUR, Expedition Everest, Festival of the Lion King, It's Tough to be a Bug!®, Kali River Rapids, Primeval Whirl®, TriceraTop Spin

So if the park usually closes at 8pm it should be open till 11pm.

Yeah, definitely note what's open. I made the HUGE mistake of having my big touring day at AK over evening EMHs. It was a bust. We even missed the last safari for the night, and were not able to get back to AK on that trip! I didn't get to do Nemo or FOTLK either. Bad planning, and I consider myself an "expert"!

It was nice to ride EE three times in a row, though. It's amazing at night! Flame Tree was open for "dinner hours" and that was so lovely in the evening. I don't know if it will still be open for dinner now that Y&Y is open.

I was at the Animal Kingdom at night earlier this month. While there is far less to do at night at AK than some of the other parks with EMH, the park was very impressive to me at night. I love subdued lighting that sets a cozy atmosphere. Riding EE at night was a treat as well. If the weather was warmer I would imagine that Kali would be great at night. I enjoyed the lower level of crowds at ITTAB and Dinosuar also during that time. I think AK is the best park of all at nights as far as atmosphere. Would also be a good time I think to enjoy Finding Nemo if it is playing.

Loved EE at night!!!!! In fact we are planning to head over there on EMH evening just to do it again and then heading to Jiko for dinner. (We are going to AK during the day a few days earlier).

Just wanted to throw in a quick warning based on our experiences with evening EMH at AK last April. My wife and I ate dinner at Boma at the AKL and the plan was to head over to AK for EMH afterwards. We got there around 8:00 expecting to have a full two hours to enjoy the rides. Unfortunately, we quickly found that they were only open until 9:00! This contradicted the info in the packet we received at our hotel at check in. We did manage to get in one ride on Dinosaur and two rides on Expedition Everest in our one hour.

Also, on our way out of the park we were going to stop in at the gift shop just outside of the Oasis. A CM was standing outside and as we approached he told us that the gift shop was closed. It was right at 9:00 -- I was surprised that they weren't allowing anyone to stop in the gift shop on the way out...
