View Full Version : Walt Disney World Babysitting suggestions
MdPrincess 01-22-2008, 09:31 AM Can anyone recommend one of the in-room babysitting services? I have several names, but wanted to see if anyone had used one that he or she particularly liked. We're trying to sneak out for dinner at V&A.
Also, if you've used a sitter in this situation, how did you work it? Is it better to go early and let the sitter engage the child in activities, or better to put the child to bed and just have the sitter keep watch. We have late reservations and were thinking of doing the latter, but I'm wondering how well it will work.]
Thanks in advance for any advice!

We were really worried - our son was just 14 months and we hadn't used babysitters much before - but it was great. The babysitter immediately started to play with him when she arrived, and he was so delighted with her by the time we left that he didn't fuss at all when we said goodbye. The service was a bit pricey, but very professional.
You didn't mention ages - if your child is at least 4 and pottytrained, then use one of the clubs at the resort hotels. We had a friend whose son (technically just a hair under 4) went to the Sandcastle Club at the Yacht & Beach Club, and loved it so much that he never wanted to leave.
MdPrincess 01-22-2008, 04:16 PM Great! Thanks.
It's for a 2-year-old, so sadly the resort clubs are out ...

Great question, MdPrincess, as we need the same advice for the same reason, V&A, but for what will be a 4-month old. Thanks for posting!

Is this who you'd still recommend for a 4-month old, Mostly Anonymous?
May I ask what the cost was? I understand you went awhile ago, but a ballpark figure would be nice. Thanks!
Mostly Anonymous 01-24-2008, 03:10 PM Obviously it may vary according to who the actual babysitter is - but the service seemed really good to us. I imagine they'd be perfectly comfortable with a 4-month-old.
I think the price was somewhere around $15 an hour? I really don't remember! Definitely more expensive than a babysitter at home, but they're very familiar with the resorts.

That's not bad at all.
I pay teens $5 an hour but when I've had an adult who is CPR certified babysit, she's $10 an hour. (She happens to be fingerprinted because the certification for her "day job" in our state requires her to be livescanned, not because she's hoping for more babysitting jobs, LOL. Babysitting is a side thing she does.)

ozisnthome 01-29-2008, 08:59 AM have you thought of bringing a family friend who you've had babysit before and knows your kids? i know many people who will bring a 14yr-old friend and simply pay their way on the trip in exchange for them to know that they will be the designated babysitter. it's great if you're in the park and you and hubby want to ride a "big-kid" ride. plus you can have every night free if you want it.

While that's an interesting idea, we aren't going to want babysitting often enough to make that option worthwhile. Besides, after our week in WDW we're getting on DCL and taking the 2-week westbound repositioning cruise out to Los Angeles.

I offered to be a full-time always available to them nanny for the duration of their trip but for some silly reason they don't want me to come stay in their hotel room and cabin with them.
Go.Figure.

MdPrincess 01-29-2008, 04:10 PM Thanks, everyone, for your suggestions. We booked today with Kids Night Out. The rate was $16 an hour because we needed service after 9 p.m. There's a four-hour minimum plus a $10 transportation fee. I'll let you know how it goes!

It couldn't possibly have been any of these reasons, could it? :D
1) we can't afford to bring you along or
2) as petite as you are, you won't fit in a suitcase or duffle bag to get smuggled aboard or
3) we'd actually LIKE to spend some time with the baby and if you came along I'm willing to bet we wouldn't see much of him or
4) 3 adults in the DCL cabin would be a bit tight with the Pack-n-Play for the baby or
5) your family couldn't possibly do without you for the 3-week duration we'll be gone, Doc might never speak to us again
We do love you, though, and appreciate the thought!

Sure you would!
I'd totally give him back to you to let you feed him. I can't do that anymore.
