View Full Version : Thoughts on my plans please
scoobydooby 01-20-2008, 12:43 PM So - although we are still 6+ months away I think my ADR booking day is February 12th, (at least for the first 10 days and I expect they'll tell me then when I can book the last 4 days) and from tomorrow work is going to go mad so today was really my final indulgent planning day before ADR booking. The plan is based on the following principles; no early starts after a late night; hit the parks early and get out pretty soon after lunch and back to the hotel to swim and snooze; water parks early in the week as I understand this is when they're quietest; park days chosen by UOG best day guide; TS meals chosen almost entirly to accommodate the children (characters/buffets/fun). Before I put this to rest and forget about it all for half a year I'd be interested in your views. We are on the free dining plan. DS has just informed me he wants a surfing lesson at Typhoon Lagoon but I don't know what days this happens?? (Didn't know if to post here or the eats forum.... )
August 10th until 24th 2008.
DAY 1 - Arrive - collapse (long flight.....)
DAY 2 - Typhoon Lagoon - Boatrights dinner
DAY 3 - Disney Studios - Play n Dine @ Hollywood and Vine Lunch
DAY 4 - Magic Kingdom - Dinner Crystal Palace followed by (hopefully) Pirates and Princesses, if not just evening fireworks show.

DAY 7 - Epcot - Mickey's Backyard BBQ dinner.
DAY 8 - Late start then boys to Disney Quest and girls all things princess at MK. Girls Cindy's Royal Table lunch (out of pocket), boys Rainforest Cafe DTD dinner (out of pocket).
DAY 9 - Epcot - Biergarten dinner followed by Illuminations and touring Innovations East.

What do you think? :)
WDW heart 01-20-2008, 01:21 PM Can I come??
:)
Wow! It sounds like you have done your research! I think it is a well thought out plan. Your ADR's sound great. I think you will need and appreciate those rest days you have scheduled. Which resort are you staying at??

Oh I am just soooo relieved someone thinks it's a reasonable plan of attack! I also have all possible counter service choices laid out but thought that too Type A to write down! Staying at POFQ. We have stayed here before and decided to play it safe after much deliberation as we were very happy here and can use Riverside too. Thanks for making me feel better :)
WDW heart 01-20-2008, 01:32 PM I have never stayed there but have heard wonderful things. It would be my top choice for a moderate. I don't think you can get too type A Disney planning on this board. :) I always plan it down to the hour then we change whatever we need to as we go along. It sounds wonderful! 15 days, Wow! :D
Drince88 01-21-2008, 01:43 PM Are you going to go to DTD for shopping and such on some of your rest days? Maybe some minature golf?
Sounds like a great plan - rest days - not killing yourself on your arrival day - Really knowing your family and planning chunks of time for Innoventions (me, I can do without those buildings, but I can see the appeal to others in it).
Sorry I can't help on the surfing - it would go in 'everything else' if you haven't started a thread for it yet.
tdelaney_98 01-21-2008, 08:40 PM Hello, my friend! Oh, you've done your research. Your trip sounds perfectly paced, it really does. I agree with Drince, mini-golf is especially fun. That was one of the "new" things we did on our last trip.
Be sure to take the boat from POFQ to DTD at least once. It is quiet, peaceful, and just wonderful.
If you find yourself with more downtime (or want more downtime), head out of MK and bop over to one of the monorail resorts and rent a boat for an hour or so. The entire clan can get on one boat and the craft are easy to drive (I did it for the first time in October). It was probably one of the best chunks of time during our entire trip.
Your food choices are great too for accommodating your fam.
I think it looks great! I know you'll have a blast. So happy for you being able to squeeze this trip in. Cheers!
JediGoofy 01-21-2008, 08:45 PM Sounds like a good plan to me.
I know that one requirement for me is to eat at O'hanas. Great table buffet, and when we were there last we watched the boat lights from the window and the kids had pineapple races around the resturant, and hula-hoop dances.

Yes I expect we will go to DTD on the free days - I thought minature golf might be unpleasant in such heat? I could also live without Innovations by my 9 year old son will want to explore them for ages once inside which is likely to ruin our touring plans so I've just found different time for him to do it to his hearts content!

Thanks Tina. Using the monorail to explore is a good plan. Personally I'd like a look at the Grand Floridian - see how the other half live!

Your plan looks great to me. We stayed at POR but visited POFQ and it was equally as beautiful. On one of our rest days we hired a small boat, but as I am afraid of water, and hubby was not very good at steering it for the first 10/15mins, I can't say it was very relaxing......the theme song from Titantic kept playing in my head.
Remember to make those ADRs in Feb, with free dining the restaurants will fill up fast.
mazzie 01-23-2008, 05:29 AM Looks great to me, after we booked on Sunday evening with Virgin Atlantic, I immediately sat down and did the same thing and wrote down what to do. I'm glad I'm not the only one!!
We are doing the "other" theme parks in the area this time aswell, as we gave them a rest last time we were there. We dont have children so we tend to be out around 9.30/10 am in the morning and dont return until around midnight and do this most days. As I say we have no one but ourselves to think about, and when you have been more than twice you really do know what you like doing and what you like to avoid. We of course have our rest days on water park days and so pretty much do the same as you do, although we never do anything on Day 2 - we have a lie in and then go to Walmart for some supplies and have a chilling day, visiting DTD in the evening to get us in the mood for the following day.
Are you based in the north of southern half of the UK?
petesimac 01-23-2008, 07:27 AM Wow, Scoobydooby, do you do this every year? What a trip! I'm jealous. As for your plans, they look really good. About the only thing I'd add is perhaps one more day at MK; seems a shame to spend 14 days at WDW and only do two days at MK. Perhaps on one of those rest days, do a half-day at MK. Just me two cents. Oh, by the way, I second a round of golf, especially at Fantasia Fairways. They have an incredibly challenging course there that is so much fun. Yeah, it's hot, but you'll be okay. Our family had a great time there. Good luck and have fun!

Neither, we're in the middle!

No not every year! Last year and this year but will have to have 2 years off after this to save up again. I agree three days at MK would be better, but really dd and I will get this so should get our fix. We'll probably end up in the parks on rest days; just for a shorter period without a touring plan in hand. How long does Fantasia take?
Two things:
Can I come.
Can you help me plan my next trip.
mazzie 01-25-2008, 05:25 AM Scooby, I'm in the middle too! Were probably neighbours!
Also I have noticed that the countdown clock is wrong - yes I am sad and sat down and counted the days! Its not taken into account that feb has an extra day this year...boo hooo an extra day to my holidays......
petesimac 01-25-2008, 07:27 AM Scooby, as for Fantasia, the tough course, you'll know it when you get there, it depends on how many people are playing. If it's just a couple of people, it'll take probably about an hour. But it's so challenging and fun. It's also fun getting there. Take a bus to Disney's Hollywood Studios, take the boat to the Dolphin/Swan, and then walk just across the street from the Dolphin/Swan to the courses. Beautifully landscaped and a whole lot of fun. Plenty of shade available too. If you like miniature golf at all, you will love the challenge this course provides.

Thank you - we'll probably check that out.
Drince88 01-25-2008, 08:04 AM Winterland/summerland are supposedly a little easier (I think they're near Blizzard Beach). I've heard of non-golfers being frustrated by Fantasia - and frustrated kids in the heat is NOT my idea of a good holiday!
scoobydooby 01-25-2008, 02:27 PM Scooby, I'm in the middle too! Were probably neighbours!
Are you middle south with the lovely Brummie accent or middle north with a different lovely one duck? ;) I'm middle north.

It will be so long before our next trip after this I will enjoy helping others plan as a good second best!
tdelaney_98 01-25-2008, 09:57 PM Thanks Tina. Using the monorail to explore is a good plan. Personally I'd like a look at the Grand Floridian - see how the other half live!
We did this for almost an entire day--we got there in the morning, rented a boat for an hour, came back in and met a family from one of the other boards, had a massage, shopped, and then had high tea. It was truly one of the best days I've EVER had at WDW and we didn't step foot out of the Grand Floridian for something like 6 hours!! And I didn't have to spend the crazy money to stay there. I felt like I was a queen for the day.

Shropshire/Wales accent :) We like you go every 18 months/2 years.

Ahh! I didn't anticipate sideways :)
scoobydooby 02-04-2008, 01:02 PM Chaos - I am a day out with my ADR planning day, the on-line tool I used hasn't accounted for leap year. Problem is I want Cindy's Royal table and at precisely 180 days (started counting backwards from and including arrival day yes?) I will be sat in a conference instead of sat by my 'phone. Just did the mannual count to check. Had booked what I thought was ADR day off work as your 7am is my 12pm. Aghh :crying:
Drince88 02-04-2008, 01:56 PM Ok

You're doing Cindy's for lunch, and not on your first day. I am hopeful that you'll be able to get it. And if you don't, you can switch days around so that you do get it, or if it's totally booked for your whole trip for all of the lunch hours (Not too realistic, now, is that?), You WILL still have a great holiday and you know that.
No matter what happens, it'll all be ok!
(Now, return to your panic mode if you must until after you make the call!)
westman 02-05-2008, 10:25 AM One thing you may want to plan on is the amount of time you will need Going from Resort to resort. Disney Transportation does not go, for example From DPQ to ADKL you have to travel to a theme park or DDT to get to another Resort. Surfing school number 407-WDW-PLAY

Ok I'm breathing and I am adult and I have perspective.... (and plots to sit on an the end of an isle and escape with trusty mobile in hand).

Thanks Westman - we tend to taxi back after evening ADR meals but I need to do some homework to sort out the journey to any hotels. Thanks for the number - DS now drawing pictures of what it will be like surfing, there is probably no escape...
