View Full Version : Sit & stand stroller or 2 strollers?
mycutekitties 01-19-2008, 03:31 PM I have a 3 1/2 year old and a 17 month old. Last year we just took 2 strollers but this year I am thinking about brining my sit & stand stroller. It's bigger but wondering what would be best.
Any advice? Has anyone used a Sit & Stand and liked it (or didn't)?
CathyM 01-19-2008, 04:59 PM I purchased a used sit & stand stroller before our trip to WDW. At the time our girls were 20 months and 5 when we went on the trip. My husband was skeptical, but he LOVED it once we were on the trip. It is big, but so useful! He pushed the thing a majority of the time (his choice). It not only carried the girls, but all our STUFF that went with us. I cannot sing its praises enough. I would not consider 2 strollers for us. It was not only handy manuvering through the parks and the parking lots, but also through our resort we stayed at. We rented a car and did not use the Disney bus sysyem. Our girls are older now, but hubby will not let me get rid of it. What if we were to return or even go to Disneyland?? We'd definitley use it then. Our girls are now 3 and almost 7. Hubby looking over my shoulder now and says he definitley recommends sit & stand stroller. Hope that helps you! Have fun!
Partymagic 01-19-2008, 05:31 PM The only benefit of the 2 strollers is that both kids can fall asleep in the stroller. Depending on the kind of sit and stand stroller of course, the ones I have seen have a bench type sit in the back so the older child would not be able to sleep there I don't think.
We went this past September with my DS 3 1/2 and DD 15 months and we took our double stroller. It worked great for us as both of them would fall asleep in it when they were tired or we were walking back to the hotel room. Our double stroller also has a huge cargo space underneath so we were able to carry all of our stuff that way too.
It certainly depends on what kind of strollers you have. In any case have a great time!! Both my little ones had the time of their lives and my 3 1/2 yr old still talks about it daily.
freedrph0512 02-13-2008, 12:54 PM we were there last year with a 3 1/2 yr old DD and 10 month old DS. We had 2 strollers. Our daughter would just climb in her stroller, pull the cover, and fall asleep when she needed to. that was great.
We are thinking of going again this April with the now 4 1/2 year old DD and 21 month old DS. He is very active and likes to run and climb and we're not sure if we are crazy to go at this time with him. We're also not sure that he is fond of characters. Of course, he is FREE. And, DD LOVES Disney as do we. My mom would be going with us and we have either a family suite at ASMusic or cabin at Fort Wilderness. The park seems packed for our week (April 23), for some reason, and we are afraid the lines might be too long too. Any comments or thoughts would be appreciated!
freedrph0512 02-13-2008, 05:35 PM Me again. I wanted to add that my 4 1/2 and 1 1/2 year old are getting very heavy to push in the double stroller. My husband doesn't have much of a problem, but my mom and I can barely push them around the neighborhood. Disney is farely flat, but there are hills! Of course, this depends on the size of your kids. My 1 1/2 year old is pretty big. I think we are going to take 2 strollers again if we go this year. Granted, one may be empty half the time - but that way we can split up, and when she gets tired, she can take a nap. Hope that helps!!
pixiepower 02-19-2008, 06:49 PM Hi, In 2006 we brought our then 1 3/4 yr. old and 3 3/4 yr. old to WDW and used a Peg Perego (front/back) double stroller. It was fine at the time, but difficult to steer as they were starting to get heavier. It was great for naps though, and carrying our stuff, and it had canopies for shade.
By the time we returned the following year we had ditched the double stroller ( now impossible to steer without feeling like it would snap in half), and brought two strollers. I thought it worked great, but DH hated folding them up for the bus rides. We are most likely going again in October 2008, and I don't know what to do about the stroller situation. I know DH will expect DS to walk, but he will be 6 1/2. Can a 6 year old handle WDW all day?? Anyway, what I wanted to say regarding the standing stroller ( and I know some people love it) is that when my little ones get tired, the first thing to give out is their legs. They totally want to be carried. I can't see either of them "standing" at the end of a long day.
VickiC 02-19-2008, 10:54 PM I can only say that I have a 6 year old and I wouldn't dream of bringing a stroller for her. She hasn't ridden in one since she was three. She has done all day at DL/DCA, all day at both the San Diego Zoo and Wild Animal Park, London for a week, and many other very walking intensive days/vacations since we ditched the stroller. SHe'd think I had been invaded by aliens were I to rent her a strolelr.
Naps aren't an issue for us though since the child hasn't napped a (well) day in her life since turning 2. :-/

It really depends on how you tour. If you go go go from park open to evening EMH without any break, most people (regardless of age!) are going to want to be carried at the end of the day. Take it at the kids' pace, take breaks (sensory and physical) during the day - even if that just means going through the TTA 3 times in a row to 'take a load off', so be it.
BUT, I'm not a parent.
I did go with my 3 nephews last year - and the youngest was 3 years, 3 months at the time. They flew from Portland, OR (with Mom & Dad ;)) and I met them in Orlando. My sister was not bringing a stroller, and I was letting her know that I was concerned about that, without telling her how to parent. He was fine. We took naps every day, and he did get carried to the bus at the end of the day, and off the bus a couple of times since he was out, but not so much that it would have been worth the hassle of having a stroller. We also had a short trip - and if it had been a longer trip, we maybe would have ended up renting one in the parks later on in the vacation.
But that was a 3 year old, too.
Also, I think it would depend on how active your kid is. My sister's two older boys do a LOT of physical playing, including martial arts, soccer, baseball, etc - and the 3 year old wasn't doing as much - but he was still playing outside a lot, trying to keep up with his brothers. I think that can be a huge factor in how well a 6 year old could handle all the walking.
Many people don't go to the parks every day of their vacation - saving a day here or there to sleep late, chill at the pool, go to bed early. That's another way that you can maximize your 6 year olds stamina.
It comes down to not pushing the kid past his breaking point and listening for the warning signs before a full-out melt down occurs.
