Thank you informed one :) Does your insider have a view about quietest days at the water parks, and what is normal opening time in August?

Specific park hours of operations, including info on EMH's, can be found here (http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/wdw/calendar/parkhours/calendarHome?id=MKCalendarParkHoursMonthlyViewPage )as well. Just select your specific month and park to help with planning. It will also show special events that may preempt EMH's.

ScoobyDooby,
Cute name by the way! As you might have guessed, the warmer days will usually be more crowded, just because people are looking for a place to cool down. Weekends may also be more crowded, simply because people living in the area can easily go to Typhoon Lagoon or Blizzard Beach with kids without checking into a hotel or visiting a park. Crowded days in the main theme parks will also mean fewer days in water parks. The best day I've found for Typhoon Lagoon was Monday. Many people begin their Disney vacation at the beginning of the week, and the kids will always insist on going to Magic Kingdom for the first day, so the water parks, Epcot, Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kingdom are less crowded than the rest of the week. For Blizzard Beach, Mondays worked well, also, but it's tough to do both water parks in one day. I would suggest Monday for TL and Wednesday or Thursday for BB, whichever works better. The CM I know says that BB has more daily attendance (I believe it's newer than TL), but it seems a little bigger to me as well, leaving more space for guests. I'm sure any day will suffice, but those would be my suggestions. Thanks!

Thankyou iheartwdw - we will be arriving on a Sunday and your insight is correct - children will insist we go to MK on the Monday, there will be NO getting out of it!

The kids in our family do the exact same thing! This time we're actually arriving on a Monday at the Contemporary, and we're going to MK our first day, mostly because it's our favorite, but also because it's so convenient to our hotel, and (I'm sure you already know this) the way that check-in is set up, you have to come back around 3. The kids always HATE leaving the park early, not believing when we say we're only going to stay back at the hotel for an hour or so. I think they'll be more okay with it if MK is visible from the hotel!

... and (I'm sure you already know this) the way that check-in is set up, you have to come back around 3.
Why?

I've always just checked in when I arrive (be in 11 am, or my sister has checked in at 7 am before, and one time the room was ready!) - and head to the parks. If the room isn't ready, they'll give you a number to call to get your room number after 3 or whatever, and the key they give you when you check in when you arrive will work. You just store your bags with Bell Services so you don't have to lug stuff around the parks.

Checking in when you arrive is important to do if you have a package, since your room key = park admission.

Did I say NO getting out of it? I have now written my plan and based on what you said we will not be at MK day 1 but Typhoon Lagoon. Might have to slip into MK in the afternoon just to do a ride or 2 to satisfy the giddy craving but I have insisted on following advice of those in the know! Actually, DS quite happy to head straight for a water park, but he has fins ;)

Glad you're able to get out of that at least somewhat (not that going to MK is this horrible thing or anything...)! I think MK is better Wednesday or Thursday when the kids are tired and want to sleep in or people are wrapping up their visits in Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios. What we do to satisfy everyone is arrive on a Tuesday night or Wednesday morning when we can, because it means everyone will want to go to MK that first day, but the first day will be a quiet day. It works well for us, but travel dates don't always allow for changes, as well as hotel reservations in the summer... I also noticed your countdown saying that you're staying at POFQ. Let me know if you've stayed there before--it's my absolute FAVORITE moderate, and my second or third favorite hotel overall. We usually stay there when we're going on a shorter trip or a trip that wasn't planned months in advance. The kids, of course, insist on a deluxe like BoardWalk or Contemporary, and my first hotel at Disney was Polynesian as a six year old, but I have a second-home feeling towards POFQ...
