View Full Version : Help, Downtown Double Tree Guest Suites
Leslie 01-17-2008, 01:46 PM oK I have a major delima here. We currently have a Allstar Family Suite reserved in June for 8 nights for 2 adults. Im starting to wonder if we shouldnt switch to the Double Tree suites which are MUCH bigger and have more in the rooms. But mostly if we switch we would save$ 1123.00. I know we would lose the Magical Express and have to take a cab. Being we are 2 healthy adults we could stay at the parks all day instead of going back and forth as in the past. I read where the downtown buses do run and other hotels use them as well my question is this, if we did switch hotels anyone know about this hotel and the bus service? How often does it run and where would we find it at the parks when to come back? Or any suggestions or comments would be welcome. Thanks in advance...:)
GusMan 01-17-2008, 02:02 PM You are going to save $140 per night? You must have snagged a huge deal.
Heck, with that savings... rent a car and dont worry about your transportation problems.
(And I am a die-hard, stay-on-site, dont need to rent a car type of person...)
mcky fan 01-17-2008, 02:27 PM Why bother with a family suite if it is just the 2 of you? A regular room would be cheaper at the value resorts, then you would still have the Disney experience.
Leslie 01-17-2008, 02:34 PM I wish we could but husband and I CANT sleep together in 1 room due to his VERY loud snoring and whistling breathing machine he uses. Plus we would like to eat some meals in our room to save time and money. Another question is downtown Double Tree within walking distance to downtown Disney. If so why couldnt we walk to downtown and catch the Disney bus'es to the parks? :)
september 01-17-2008, 02:55 PM Personally I'd make the change--it's a slight inconvenience for a sizeable savings.
BTW, though, there aren't any busses that run from DTD to the parks.

I think it is walking distance (someone might correct me) but you are going to run into a couple of snags.
1) The DTD buses do not run early enough were you could use them in the morning.
2) You still have to make a stop at a resort hotel, then transfer to a bus that goes to your desired park.
In other words... you will waste quite a bit of time by trying to cut that corner. Talk with the hotel and see what they offer for transportation. Going off what was mentioned before, if you are going to stay off-site, a rental car is pretty much the way to go.
Leslie 01-17-2008, 06:13 PM Any of the 7 downtown disney hotels have airport shuttles? If not any ideas on cab prices from the orlando airport to downtown disney or Company to call? Thanks :)

Not sure about hotel shuttles, but you might want to look into Quicksilver Transportation (http://www.quicksilver-tours.com/) for some rates / package pricing. (They are also a MP sponsor.) You would get a better value by going with a car service than a taxi or airport shuttle. You can also get a quick grocery stop for free as well. (Might be a good idea since you mentioned that you wanted to have a few meals in your hotel room.)
UsBurchs 01-18-2008, 10:05 AM Yes, they do have shuttles from the Downtown Disney HOTELS - not Downtown Disney, but the hotels, all day. Check out www.downtowndisneyhotels.com for the "schedule" (I'm sure they update it, but it will give you a rough idea) It says they run every 30 minutes (to each park) and there are a couple that hit several hotels together - the Double Tree shares it's bus with the Hilton, Holiday Inn and Royal Plaza. Another bus hits the other hotels. They are supposed to start running an hour before park opening. They run 2 hours after park closing back to the hotels.
Downtown Disney only has busses from the hotels starting at 6pm.
Hope that helps! We're going to stay at the Royal Plaza. When I talked to them on the phone, they told me the same as the website.
Leslie 01-18-2008, 10:22 AM Oh my gosh thanks so much for that link. I didnt even know it exsisted. What help that site has been plus I copied off the schedule. Thanks again.:)
Leslie 01-18-2008, 11:02 AM Any other of the 7 Downtown Disney Hotels have 1 bedroom suites besides the Doubletree? Thanks:)
GusMan 01-18-2008, 12:19 PM I am pretty sure the Hilton does.
Mark Goldhaber 01-20-2008, 06:25 PM I believe that all of the hotels have suites of some level or another. However, the other resorts charge premium prices for suites. All rooms at the Doubletree are suites.
The buses do indeed run every 30 minutes, though bear in mind that there are two routes, with each route serving two parks, if I recall correctly. The bus route that you would be on would include the Hilton and the Royal Plaza, but not the Holiday Inn at this time, because the HI is closed for renovation and will not open until late this year.
The rooms at the Doubletree are wonderful, and I'm sure that you'll enjoy them. (And if you keep your eye on the Downtown Disney Hotels (http://www.downtowndisneyhotels.com/) web site over the next 2-3 weeks, you might find some familiar information sources mentioned there. ;) :D
