View Full Version : Star Wars Weekends questions
clockworkmonkey 01-15-2008, 04:38 PM I'm visiting WDW this year during Star Wars Weekends for the first time this year and was trying to figure out which day of our trip to hit this event. A few questions:
1) Are the events on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday or just Saturday and Sunday?
2) Is one day significantly busier/more crowded than the others?
3) Are the # of events pretty much the same for each day?
Also:
I'm a Star Wars fan, but don't particularly care to spend a day of the trip waiting in line for autographs (I'm more interested in getting a picture with Jedi Mickey, really). What things going on during Star Wars Weekends that you would consider must-see?
mzloolue 01-15-2008, 05:21 PM I was in MGM during Star Wars time a couple of years ago.
It was unbearably crowded.
We got on the boat and rode to Epcot.

disnut8 01-16-2008, 05:00 AM When the Star Wars Weekends were in May a few years ago, we were always there over Memorial Day Weekend. Our son is a big Star Wars fan so we made sure to go to MGM (now Hollywood Studios) for a brief visit. We didn't do any of the autographs or the special events but watched others having a good time.
The entire area around Star Tours will be absolutely mobbed. We would make our way through there (at some points, we had to completely stop since there were so many people) and see the festivities. But then we would move on. The rest of the park is extremely manageable so if you are looking to go to Hollywood Studios for the day, don't let the fact that the Star Wars things are there stop you.
The Star Tours gift shop will be more mobbed than the outside area. In the past few years, there has been a line just to get into the place. And once you are in, you can barely move. Not for the faint of heart.
One thing not to miss and it's before you even enter the park. As you approach the turnstiles, look up. There will be Stormtroopers up there. Take a few minutes to listen to what they are saying. It's a perfect introduction to Star Wars Weekend.
bellefan 01-16-2008, 08:20 AM I went on Friday last year and the crowds really weren't unbearable. Maybe because it was rainy, but we got in line for pics with Jedi Mickey and Darth Vadar pretty easily. There was lots of adults and kids dressed up and it was cute to attend. I have a schedule from last year if you would like to PM me I can mail it to you...

Brad, those are great! I had to laugh a little at the giant Ewok and the Storm Trooper using a walker! Dedication, I tell ya! Were these people from the 501st? I sent the photo link to my hubby - I'd call him my DH, but he's really my SWH. :)
Thanks again for the great photos - we just might have to go do that one day. Scott would love it.
Does anyone know when Star Wars Weekend is this year? I believe it was normally Mid-May through early June but last year it was all during June because of the 30th Anniversary Con in Cali. I am in planning mode and want to try to go again during the weekends. After last year, my sons are kind of expecting it as they already have which costumes they are planning on wearing ready to go.
We went last year and I thought Fridays were the best. If you have kids you may want to do a couple days. We did not do the autographs so it made it a lot easier. I do not feel it is the events that make it great but the atmosphere that does. I think they do a good job.
1) Are the events on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday or just Saturday and Sunday?
It is all three days.
2) Is one day significantly busier/more crowded than the others?
We went on Saturday and Friday and I thought Friday was better. As with everything at any Disney Park go early, go early, go early! You will want to see the show at the entrance with the Stormtroopers prior to the park opening if you have never seen it. You will want to get in line for Jedi Mickey early as that was our longest wait last year but it was worth it. I am looking at a picture of my kids with Jedi Mickey on my desk as I am typing this.
3) Are the # of events pretty much the same for each day?
Yes, the events are the same each day. The celebrities doing autographs change each weekend but other than that everything else I believe is the same.
clockworkmonkey 01-17-2008, 07:25 AM Thanks for your answers and comments everyone. That's a big help!
clockworkmonkey 01-17-2008, 12:44 PM Oh, and FMTX. I've heard that a cast-member publication has listed dates as being only weekends in June again this year.
Thank you clockworkmonkey now I can pick a weekend.
eyeorelover 01-17-2008, 01:51 PM I am new to the whole "Star Wars weekends" concept and am wondering what happens and where? We have our trip booked from June 8-June 20 and will this affect our trip? Is it only at the DHS park? Anything else I should know to plan our trip accordingly? We like Star Wars but probably not enough to fight through crowds for. Thanks for any more info anyone can give me.
Mindy
Yes, it is only at DHS. This is the best link on what goes on. http://www.allearsnet.com/tp/mgm/m_starwars.htm
The crowds are higher those days, but with a lot of people doing the Star Wars stuff, it actually is not a bad day to go if you are not planning on doing the Star Wars stuff. Others will stay away because of the Star Wars stuff and again the Star Wars folks do mostly the Star Wars stuff. Last year, we went a Friday afternoon and evening on the first day we got to WDW just to check it out. It was very busy, but we noticed the other stuff seemed to not be that bad. We actually got all the non-Star Wars MGM touring done that day and night as the crowds were mostly concentrated at the Star Wars stuff and had tappered off by the evening. Just something to think about.
eyeorelover 01-17-2008, 03:27 PM Thanks for the info! We really only have the Friday and Sunday in the middle of the trip this could affect us (we are taking the Saturday off from all parks) so we'll see how the plan goes and may see what it has to offer. Thanks again for the info!
