I read online that there will be construction at the Animal Kingdom Lodge until 2009. I'm planning a trip for late 2008. Can anyone let me in on this? Have you stayed there recently and had a ton of noise? Thanks!

Have you stayed there recently and had a ton of noise? Thanks! The construction inside the existing AKL building (5th floor - Jambo House) will be completed this month. I was there in December and didn't see anything. The construction of the nieghboring Kidani Village is ongoing through 2009. You won't see or hear anything unless you are facing the Sunset savanna. kwdancer26 01-06-2008, 05:03 PM If I decide to stay concierge (which I know is in the main building,) then will I be away from construction noise? Thanks! GusMan 01-06-2008, 07:09 PM Well, that somewhat depends. In most cases when this question came up in the past, there were no reports (audible/visual) of construction going on during the evening hours. In fact, I dont recall anyone saying that they heard much of anything during the daytime as well. Of course, I will yield to anyone who has recent experiences that either support of contradict what I have heard from others. :) ChuckC 01-07-2008, 01:16 AM The construction inside the existing AKL building (5th floor - Jambo House) will be completed this month. We had an AKV room overlooking this savanna last month, and never saw or heard any construction. The Arusha savanna is right in the middle of the AKL, so you shouldn't see or hear the construction at Kidani. The Sunset savanna looks directly at the new Kidani Village, so you will see the buildings under construction and the cranes. nutsformickey 01-09-2008, 06:53 PM Just returned from AKL yesterday. It was by far the best hotel experience I've ever had at Disney. We had a room in the villas overlooking Arusha Savanah on the 5th floor. There were animals almost constantly, even some sleeping right under our room at 3 in the morning. We heard nor saw any construction during the entire stay. We could see the top of the cranes being used at the Kindani Villiage site in the distance. On our last day however, we took a walk over in the wing overlooking the Sunset Savanah to get a peak at the Kindani Village progress and you stare right at a construction site. I would make sure to request not to be on this savanah. There were trucks working as we watched from an inside window and I could not hear them from inside but I would not pay to look at that all day.:( My only regret is that we did not have more time in the hotel with all the park hopping because I could have spent days watching the animals.:D ChuckC 01-16-2008, 02:33 AM I will be at the AKL Villas in March and have requested a savanna view. Here I am quoting myself.:p But whom do I actually call---member services or the AKL Villas? muzicmanmd11 01-18-2008, 10:22 AM We just returned Tuesday after 5 days at the AKL. Since there was a marathon going on (which was cool, yet inconvenient), there wasn't much of a choice in what hotel we were going to stay in. We originally wanted the Wilderness Lodge, but that was booked so we settled on the AKL (which we've enjoyed in the past). When we booked, we were told that there would be construction on the villas which might get noisy at times. When we showed up, we could definitely see all of the construction. They didn't start the construction very early so we could sleep and they ended at a reasonable time so we could enjoy the evening. I actually thought this stay was better than the last one because all of the animals seemed to stay right by our room. Whenever we're on vacation we are rarely in the room so I really don't know how loud it was during the day (though we got there at 3:00pm the first day and it wasn't annoyingly loud). I have photos available if you'd like to see them, just send me a message. |
