Has any one ever had a Pal Mickey at WDW? Is it just for kids or can it be helpful for adults?

Several people around the boards have a Pal Mickey or have seen him in action. Via a search, I found the following three links that may help answer your question and/or provide some insight as to what he has to offer:

it is pretty good at animal kingdom it talks about the animals on display when you pass by them.

I had Pal Mickey delivered to our room in Sept, and we LOVED him!! I brought my daughter's Build a Bear carrier for him to ride in, and he went to every park with us. He's small enough to not be an inconvenience.

His information was interesting and somewhat helpful, and even when he didn't have anything informational to tell us, he'd tell a joke or make conversation. My daughter was amazed at the way he knew when we changed parks. He shakes before he speaks, so there are no surprises. We were able to buy some extra outfits for him too -- a tourist outfit, a pirate outfit, and even a raincoat and hat (which he definitely had to wear!). It rained every day we were in Florida, but the moisture didn't cause any kind of problems for him. He was a lot of fun, and is in virtually every picture we took.

It was kind of sad to discover how useless his skills are at home (in Calif), but I couldn't bear to put him on eBay because I have such fond memories of him guiding us around Disney World. Now he just tells the same jokes over and over. My daughter has commented more than once that she wishes we could get a chip for him to use at Disneyland... me too!

Oh good! I'm so glad to hear that Pal Mickey is still available. It's hard to get updated information on this little guy! I think the idea of having a chip or a cartridge to change over to Disneyland (or updates for WDW even) would be a great idea. We travel to DL almost every year - he would be helpful there! We're saving up to make sure Pal Mickey gets to travel around with us at WDW next Nov/Dec. My son will LOVE him, even after he's come home. Sounds fun! Thanks for bringing this up again.

We've never actually taken him into the parks, but my "family" does have one. I got it for my female roommate before a trip a few years back. We travel light around the parks, so he never makes it out of the hotel room (he's always smiling when we get back, though, so we think he likes it there!) :p

This year, for Christmas, my roommates picked up a pirate outfit for him. It's great, with a sword, hat, coat and boots (pants too, I think, I can't quite recall though)

I'm sure kids would get way more out of PAL Mickey than we did, but we still have him, and we love him even if he never talks to us...

I got a Pal Mickey off of ebay prior to our last trip (July 2007), and while we brought him to the park a few days, we really didn't use him at all. Then, he got drenched in a downpour at MGM while we were in Lights!Motors!Action!
The good news is, when he dried, he still worked just fine. But we really didn't take him out of the bottom of the stroller!

It would be nice if they made him work in all the parks, not just WDW. It must be a cost thing on why they dont. Because its a neat idea. And if they do any upgrades, you should be able to send yours in or stop by some store and get the upgrade that way your Pal Mickey can stay with you and not just become another plush toy.

We had an older version of the Pal Mickey and my DD (10 y/o) asked for a new version for Christmas this year. We got that one and she does like it, it is more of a play toy than an actual information guide. While it will tell you some info it is not always true.

We noticed this year that when we were waiting outside of Epcot for the gates to open, Pal Mickey kept buzzing to tell us the wait at Test track was short!:D And for some reason he always buzzed in the ballroom scene at Haunted Mansion, anyone have an idea why???

Now that we are back home, Pal Mickey is in the pile with the rest of the plush toys but my DD tends to always want to take him on our trips and she doesn't mind carrying him.

It's really a pretty big investment of infrastructure to make Pal Mickey truly interactive and knowledgeable about where he is and what's coming up. There has to be placement of sensors throughout the park to interact with Mickey, plus computer input to let him know when an attraction has a short line. I'm not surprised that they haven't put this system into practice in DL, which is a much smaller resort.

Still, I'd probably snatch one up without hesitation if I knew he worked in both WDW and DL, since we go to DL more often. Maybe once DL expands a bit with the new Cars addition to DCA, etc., we might see Pal Mickey start broadening his horizons! :) Ya never know.
