I've been reading all the menus of most of the restaurants as part of my planning for my next trip in March. I came across a dish that I am not familiar with.

What is tagliata as in Tagliata di Manza? I am assuming that Manza is the name of the cook/chef that created the dish or is the name of the region of Italy that the dish comes from. All the menu says is that "It is made with fennel and arugula salad." I love arugula:p but would like to know what It is. So again, please, what is tagliata?

A quick Google search resulted in a couple of hits. This Link (http://thepassionatecook.typepad.com/thepassionatecook/2004/09/tagliata_di_man.html) is representative of what I found. Not sure if this is exactly what is served at TI, but I would bet it is similar.

(Looks good, if you ask me...)

As for the word Tagliata... here is a link (http://italian.about.com/library/word/blwordofday1331.htm)for that as well.

So, in the case of the meal, it probably refers to how the meat is cut.

I can't get too discriptive for you, sorry I didn't pay more attention myself, but can tell you that my steak loving DH tried this on 12/7 and really enjoyed it. He said it was a very well cooked steak. He did not however enjoy the vegetable/salad served with the meal. If he had the opportunity, he said he would order the same thing - just for the steak. Hope that helps.

Thanks, everyone, for the replies. So I guess Tagliati means a cut or more specifically how a piece of steak or some other type of beef is cut. Interesting. Now I would like to know why is it $10 more than any other item on the Tutto Italia menu. I suspect that it might be a misprint.

Thanks, again.
