Can someone tell me what the difference is between a normal verandah and a "navigator's verahdah"?

Thanks!

The Navigator's Verandah is enclosed and not open the air and ocean. It has a porthole and is like a closed-in porch.

The Verandah is more like a balcony and is open to air and ocean with a railing. The railing has plexiglass across it so little ones and belongings that may be out on the Verandah don't get blown out to sea.

From what I have read and have seen, it is an open-air Verandah but is mostly enclosed.

Per DCL's site:
Step into a spacious room with Disney's distinguished nautical fittings, natural woods, imported tiles and a different view outside: a unique enclosed Navigator's Verandah with nautical decorations, teak siding, old-fashioned maps on the wall, and a large open-air porthole in the solid white wall above the railing.

Here is a link (http://allearsnet.com/reviewpost/showproduct.php?product=303&cat=75)to some pictures.

My apologies, Toocherie. GusMan is right. The porthole is open air. In the pictures I've seen it doesn't look like closing the porthole is an option.

There are also 4 Cat 7 Navigator Verandahs that used to be Cat 5 & 6 cabins. According to the "Passporter's Field Guide to the Disney Cruise Line" "... they have plexiglass railings and partially obstructed views due to the hull design, and their verandahs aren't enclosed like the other Cat 7 rooms."

These are cabin #'s 6134, 6634, 7120, 7620.

They go one to say that the Navigator's Verandah on the Wonder has a larger porthole than those on the Magic. They both have a built-in padded bench, a chair and a table

i stayed in a nav verandah on the wonder (wouldn't do it on the magic). very nice.

here's a pic of my room: http://bradk.smugmug.com/photos/223425165-X3.jpg

although you can't see too much of the verandah because of the sun and there's also some sort of rig outside my window (i took this shortly after getting into the room while still at port)

We did the NV on the Magic for the Westbound Panama canal cruise in 2005, and loved it. It was enough to provide fresh air, but the balcony was usually shaded, making it a lot nicer to sit out on. (The heat in the direct sun on that cruise was beyond intense.)

The Magic's is also nice because it is completely private - no one can lean over the railing to look in on your balcony.
