Price Wise, for next Christmas...the Contemporary is the best deal.
But...we like the Polynesian...
Both of them offer the 2 Queen + daybed rooms that we need.
December 20 to January 4
2 Families....therefore 2 Rooms.
Together....4 Adults and 4 Kids...ages 20, 16, 16, 13
What's your opinion? Which hotel would be the best choice for us, or should we stay in the Contemporary for the first half of the trip and then move to the Polynesian?

Taking into consideration the construction at the Contemporary (not sure of completion date) I would go with the Polynesian.
Have you considered the Wilderness lodge? We really enjoy the atmosphere there at Christmas time.Cost should be comparable.

They don't have the daybed. One of our families needs the third bed in their room.

With a stay that long, I'd go for both. Disney makes it really easy to move from hotel to hotel. Just pack your bags in the morning, and call bell services. They'll move your bags for you. Then in the afternoon just go check in to your new hotel, and usually you'll find your bags already in your room!

I would recommend the Contemporary - Very relaxing and slightly larger-than-normal-guestrooms

Having stayed at the Contemporary previously, we thoroughly researched the Polynesian. Wow... a lot of good info out there. The Poly has been through a very recent rennovation and the pictures I have seen look great! The Contemporary is now under construction as one of garden wings has been torn down. No way to know what type of construction may be going on while you are there. Also, Poly has many rooms with the daybed needed, as we also need the two queens and daybed setup.

From the Poly you can walk to the TTC, take the boat to the MK, or utilize the monorail to get to the other MK hotels and switch monorails to Epcot.
