I don't get it. Can you explain?

It seems like junior high when we put our friends' photos on the inside of our lockers. Junior high was a really, really* long time ago for me.

Also, basically my philosophy is that I'm friends with everyone here - until I'm not. I'm not going around asking everyone I like (that would be so time consuming!) to be my friend. Ick.

Tell me why this is a good feature?

We're still exploring all the new features of the latest vBulletin. Some of them may not end up making the cut. Until then, I wouldn't take anything too seriously.

I was just going to ask - what is the point of the "social groups" - same thing as the friends list?

It seems as though anyone can read any of them - am I right?

It seems as though anyone can read any of them - am I right?Yes. There are other venues for private discussion.

One role I can see for the social groups is more for just chitchat type of interaction.

Consider it done, newhdplayer. Open invite to all - 3894 is a Friends List harlot!

Whitney - you have too much time on your hands!

ETA: thanks Stan4d_Steph. . . I don't see the difference between the groups and regular chatting threads but no biggy.

When I try to post pictures from my album onto one of my social groups it tells me that I don't have access to that page. Is it only the group leader who can post or what?

Oh, and is there any way to get to "social groups" without going to your user cp?

I also think that you can set permissions for your images and blog, so that might be where a friends list would be useful. It's like on Facebook, Livejournal etc. where you can make some things public and others for friends only.

Oh, and is there any way to get to "social groups" without going to your user cp?Tony is adding a link for that - give him a few minutes...

OK, it works - the link is now on the top navigation bar, between "Members List" and "Blogs." Keep the questions coming - this is sort of a "soft opening" for active members before we make an official announcement.

Thanks Tony and AVP!

While we're discussing "bugs"...

I don't know if you saw that once you change a group to "public" the "moderator" of the group cannot change it back. Well, you CAN...as long as you don't have any members yet. Once you get members you can't go back.

BTW, I really like the new profile features and the ability to customize the look of it.

OK, maybe I'm just being dense, but I'm still not getting the difference between the social groups and just a regular thread. If they're the same, isn't that just being redundant then?

It would appear that the difference is if you're not a member of one of the social groups you can't post in that area. Another website has a similar set up but they allow the social groups to not only restrict members but to post privately so that only the members can read the posts, sort of a private chat room. Some of the groups you have to be invited by the person who created the group so that person controls who they want to participate in their group vs an open thread which is open to any one registered.

Hmmm, interesting, almost like a private PM group. Thanks.

Could result in interesting developments.
