View Full Version : Is Indy better backwards?

It seems like Indy's decor was made to be looked at going forwards. Is it a cool experience seeing it from behind?

When I first rode this coaster I thought it was a terrible ride. It had the feeling of a quickly built ride that was only really a space filler, it was rough as heck too (not as bad a SM though!)
Normaly I dislike rides which go backwards for the reason they make me feel sick! Stangely though Indy seemed a fa better ride backwads and I dont know if they did any track work while it was down but it also seemed far smoother.

maybe it goes slower now?

It's a good question and a difficult one to answer.

From memory I don't remember feeling quite so ill when I rode Indy going forwards as I do now.

The ride does have a nice theme to it, but going forwards or backwards make little difference to what you actually get to see as you ride round. The ride is very rough (and in my opinion MUCH worse than Space Mountain).

I don't think it goes slower as there would be problems with getting back up hills etc, if the cars did not reach the right speed. They did not do any track work to the ride, they simply replaced the trains and used the existing track. It may feel smother due to new trains / wheels rather than a track change.

Just a note to backup Parky in Paris:
Since it's backward, I have the same weird feeling in my stomach that prevent me to ride it again. I don't have that problem with all the other coaster of DLP.

This is a pretty rough ride. SpM is more intense (faster, music ) but it's not rough!! I think it's the same speed.
In an article DLP's Imagineers said they could reverse the ride within 24hours.

Could they reverse to the "classic" Temple du péril for DLP'anniversary ?

Sorry to dissagree but SM is a VERY rough coaster, this has been debated elsewhere though BUT if they could smooth it out with some much needed track work or new wheels it would be one of the finest rides on the planet, as it is it's the best coaster building in the world that houses a very bad coaster with quite a good launch (but not as good as Hulk at IOA!)

The Indy ride backwards is one of the rides that I look most forward to! :D

We'll be going back to DLP this summer and I haven't been there since the change of that ride!

But I am also a litte worried about what my stomach will think about it... :o

And does the ride really go BACKWARDS... I mean, does it start at the end and finish in a huge drop?
Or are the cars just turned the other way around???
And do you go twice around or just one time?
The ride itself is acually wuite short... if you ask me! :(

I think it would be impossible for the cars to actually run the course backwards :)

The cars simply face backwards and un the same course once, if they went twice the lines would be huge!

He he... yeah, after giving it another thought, that makes sense! :o

Oh, ok... but as I remeber it we got to go twice around last time...:)
And it was during peak season and the park was pretty crowded too!

I've been to DLP many, many times and I have never seen riders go round Indy twice. You may have been lucky and they just did it for some reason. But the usual process is once round then off. With a full compliment of trains running it would be very strange and difficult to manage as some trains would be coming into the station for a change of riders and others would pass right through. You would also be sat in the train waiting for your second go while they loaded and unloaded trains in front of you. The only time I have ever seen people ride again is when the ride has no line, and they do let people stay on if no one is waiting, but even then the train stops and some people will always get out, so it's not really a 'double' trip.

When I went on it, there were a couple of trains going at the same time with only three or four cars in them.
And we did stop to let pople out, but those who wanted to go again had to put their hand in the air.

And when we left another train was already behind us, waiting to unload.

This only happened once during my 3 day visit, and we went back several times and asked for a double ride, but we didn't get it... It still is a GREAT memory from my last visit! :D

Accutaly Indy did get track work when it was made backwards. They redid the turns so there more banked
