View Full Version : iPhones- Do you have one? Do you love it?
wwithers 11-18-2007, 03:50 PM I have a Blackberry right now but I'm not sure I love it. I like it, just don't love it. So, I am thinking of giving Olivia my Blackberry and getting an iPhone instead.
Do you have an iPhone? Do you love it? Do you have some other kind of PDA/smartphone you love?
brazen wench 11-18-2007, 06:27 PM My son had a Blackberry and got an iPhone just over a week ago. I think it's awesome, and he loves it. If I didn't need to have direct connect on my phone, I'd switch in a second.
If you have any questions about it, I'll be glad to ask him.
JeffG 11-18-2007, 08:49 PM The iPhone has a user interface that is pretty unusual and which most of the people who have purchased them really love, but it does lack a lot of features that are commonplace on Blackberrys and most other current brands of smartphone. In fact, there is quite a bit of debate as to whether the iPhone can really even be legitimately classified as a "smartphone", at least until Apple finally releases a developer SDK for it (they claim February) that will allow 3rd parties to easily provide applications for it.
As I said, many (possibly even most) of the people that have bought iPhones do seem to really love them, but you should look very closely at the feature set before making the purchase and be certain that it really will meet your needs. As a current Blackberry owner, you may want to particularly look at how you use email as the iPhone's capabilities in that area fall far short of what the Blackberry can do.

june1st1997 11-18-2007, 09:45 PM I LOVE MY IPHONE.
I had a blackberry for years. Could touch type an email while I was driving. I cannot do that with the iphone and I think that is a good thing.
The maps application was very useful on our last trip to san diego. Browsing is amazing. As a working mom having my phone and ipod as one device is a god send!
It took me awhile to buy the phone... I was very attached to my blackberry... but now I cannot imagine going back.
But I should tell you I am a huge mac addict...

Check out forum section on www.macrumors.com. Another place to look for information on pda phones, check out www.pdaphonehome.com.
consider an iPod Touch. It has many of the features of an iPhone w/o the commitment to the contract with AT&T.
One other missing phone feature is voice dial. I concur with what someone else mentioned, have a phone w/o dedicated keys means you're pretty much going to have to look at it to see what you're dialing. So the lack of voice dial is even worse.
I have an older Sprint smartphone (PPC-6800). It's ok. One thing I am looking forward to in the next phone is getting rid of the slide out keyboard. I prefer the stylus based entry, and the keyboard slider just makes the phone thicker and more fragile.
Check out the Sprint Touch.
And that reminds me, the iPhone is a 2G phone, meaning your web browsing experience is going to be slower compared to the more state of the art phones.

Curious as to why, given that the OP is inquiring about what phone to purchase, you'd ask him/her to consider a model (iPod Touch) that isn't even a phone...not unless the OP was actually willing to consider a PDA-only unit?

It wasn't a suggestion for a replacement. It was as a trial experience. Because it'll let you try out the GUI/user experience in a lower risk environment. You can see if you like the form factor. Even though the phone is 'thin', many folks think it's too large in the other two dimensions. You can see how the iPod functions work.
And if you don't like it, then you don't have to deal with AT&T contractual issues. You can return it to the store. Or keep it as an ipod.
wwithers 11-21-2007, 05:12 PM Thanks for the input.
I've been with ATT (well, SWB wireless--->Cingular--->ATT) for 11 years so I'm fine with the contract thing.
What I REALLY want is a Nokia smartphone. ATT is phasing out the N75 and, thus far isn't replacing it with a new Nokia smartphone. I bid on a couple of N73s on ebay (lost) which seem to be about perfect (I also like the N95). I dunno. I got O a Sidekick, so I'm going to return my Blackberry. This means I have until November 29 to return/exchange my Blackberry.
cabozone 11-21-2007, 05:36 PM I use the 8525, it is Windows Mobile Device, you can do just about anything with it, there are thousands of add on programs that you can install, it syncs with Microsoft Outlook to keep all my appointments. I can use it as a gateway to connect my laptop to the internet where ever I have a phone signal. Using my bluetooth GPS device I get live maps, traffic and driving directions using Live Search. I am an Computer Department manager and so far there is nothing the device wont do. I cant do without it.
wwithers 11-23-2007, 03:20 PM Well, I bought myself more time to dither.
Cabozone, I looked at the 8525, but it was a bit on the big side for me. I don't mind "not small" but the 8525 was big.
ATT had the Razor V3xx on sale, plus it had a $50 rebate, plus ATT had already given me a $50 credit on my bill because the phone I wanted wasn't available (I've been a customer for over 10 years which has its perks). So, I paid $15 for the Razor (it would've been free but I got the platinum color which was $15 more). Since I had to return the Blackberry by next week, this essentially gives me as much time as I want to get a good price on a Nokia on ebay. Add in that the plan is cheaper (because the Razor doesn't use Blackberry's EDGE network- which was costing me $30 more/month)...I'm a pretty happy camper right now, not to mention $295 richer!
Thanks to all of you on your comments. :)
