I am planning a trip in January and would love to stay at DH at AP5 rate, but don't currently have an AP and considering buying one now to take advantage of hotel discount.

If I purchase an AP online, will I get the information I need (AP id/confirmation #) to make an AP5 hotel reservation right away? Is there anyway to confirm with Disneyland Hotel that there are AP5 rooms available for the dates I want before purchasing an AP?

Any help in doing this would be greatly appreciated!

Go ahead and call now to check on the AP5 rate, you will not need to give them any AP information to make the reservation. You can wait until you get there to purchase the AP, or buy it before you go.

If you have AAA, you can buy the AP at a discount online before you go at www.disneyland.com/westways (http://www.disneyland.com/westways)

Does anyone know if you buy a parkhopper if the AAA rates allow for an upgrade to AP? What I mean is, can I buy a AAA parkhopper and then on my last day of use upgrade to a AP at the AAA rate? Or is that just an online offer?

You can do it with AAA park hoppers also.

No, you cannot take a parkhopper (AAA or otherwise) in to the passholder office and upgrade it to an AP at the discounted AAA price. You can ONLY get the AAA $10 AP discount through the website. I verified this in the park this week, they would not honor it.
There is no AAA rate for AP's when bought in the park, they are the regular price.

Just to clarify, if you buy a park hopper from AAA, it is upgradeable to an AP, but not at the special online price. To get the online price, you must buy online...
