Cheshire Figment 11-06-2007, 05:55 AM Try the Chef's Table at Victoria and Albert's. It is a ten course meal that includes a sample of the entire menu for the day, including the extra cost items such as the Beluga Caviar and the Australian Kobe Beef. It takes about 4 - 4½ hours.
ElephantEars 11-06-2007, 10:50 AM It was a year or two after Epcot opened when I was a kid at the Cantina outside Mexico. I'm not sure what it was called back in the day. They offered a "happy meal" with little flautas and burritos, chips and a toy. It was my first experience with Mexican food and I kept asking to go back because I loved it so much. So maybe it's just nostalgia and I would not enjoy it as much today, but I swear it was the best meal I ever had at Walt Disney World. My next trip back was in college and I was tempted to order the kids meal again, but they no longer had what I was looking for.

Yeah, you pretty much can't beat V&A for "best meal ever" as they're the only restaurant that I know of in the entire region that could potentially get 3 michelin stars if michelin ever gets around to rating florida restaurants (it could happen!). It's truly on par with the three stars in NY and the best of LA and San Francisco (and Napa).
Maybe a better question is: "What's the best meal you've had in terms of value for the price?" My favorite ever was an on-the-fly vegetarian creation of the cooks at Cinderella's Royal Table. Veggies and pasta have never tasted so good and at $12 or so, I was almost disappointed they didn't charge me more!
In terms of 'value' for the price-for me these were places that stood out for me. We were on the dining plan(2007 version so that definitely played a part).
Counter service: Wolfgang Puck Express-me-huge chinese chicken salad, creme brulee and a soda(added a glass of wine OOP). Liked that they brought the food to your table and the the silverware and plates were "real" vs. plastic. Son #1 had sushi and a big slice of key lime pie and son #2 had a huge(more than enough for two) pepperoni pizza and a brownie that he actually ate for breakfast the next morning. Cost was almost $60 for the three of us; but only 3 credits on the dining plan. Also, 2 counter service meals were more than enough for the 3 of us at Cosmic Ray's in the MK. Each meal was: 1/2 a chicken, 3-4 ribs, mashed red potatoes and glazed carrots as well as a brownie and soda. And the glazed carrots were especially yummy.:). Think each meal was around $13-14.
Table service: Le Cellier-food, service and atmosphere. Worth every calorie-cheddar cheese soup with pretzel breadsticks, bbq filet with cream cheese mashed potatoes, and maple creme brulee. Ice wine to finish was especially good. Think the bill for the 3 of us wo wine and tip was about $120-again, only one credit each on the dining plan.
Would have loved to have tried some of the Signature places that are two credits apiece(especially Cali Grill and the Yachtsman) but there's always next time!

Kobe style.
danyoung 11-07-2007, 10:10 AM Someday I'll enjoy a meal at V&A's. But after eating at most of the park and hotel restaurants on property, I have to say that by far my favorite meal was about a year ago at the California Grill, party of one! I had a terrific window seat looking out at the MK and the Seven Seas Lagoon, with all the boats and monorails zipping around. I had a 40-ish waiter from New Jersey who was just incredible - informative, laid back, funny, and in no hurry at all.
I started with the sushi appetizer, made by (my waiter said) one of the top sushi artists in the world (and after eating it I totally believed him!). Then came the tamarind bbq marinated beef tenderloin on a bed of garlic mashed potatos - totally melt in your mouth eat with a fork spectacular! I don't remember exactly what I had for dessert, although I do remember that it was a great light way to end the meal. Add in 2 or 3 glasses of some terrific wine (chardonnay with beef - go figure!), and it was the finest 2 1/2 hours of dining I've ever experienced in or out of a Disney park. I've got a meal scheduled there for this next trip, and I can only hope it's close to that memorable meal!

If you want to get technical, then the cow is called Wagyu.
Kwahati 11-07-2007, 02:30 PM I started with the sushi appetizer...[cut for space]...and I can only hope it's close to that memorable meal!
What an amazing review! I'm so excited, I'll be eating there for my first time in about two weeks! To be fair, I overlooked CG when I was thinking about V&A. I've heard exclusively spectacular things about CG and it sounds like it might stack up quite well against the culinary behemoth that is V&A. I'll make sure that somebody in my group tries the tamarind bbq beef so I can give you an update of exactly how great it still is!;) (or so I hear...)
danyoung 11-08-2007, 04:32 AM Many of my best online friends confirm what I've known for a few years - the California Grill is one of the best restaurants anywhere! Hope you have a GREAT meal!!!
dawz1026 11-08-2007, 09:45 AM I know Disney is child friendly but is the California Grill? and you know what I mean;)

As a "signature dining experience" they have a business casual dress code. Beyond that, I'd say you should probably judge for yourself the maturity level of your child. It's a meal that will take a while, from what I've read, simply in terms of courses and service speed (it's supposed to be really good food, so they don't rush you, they let you enjoy it). If your child is likely to get fussy about being at a table for a couple of hours or if your child is young enough that they get fussy for no reason, then I would think it would be best to get a baby-sitter for the night rather than ruin the (somewhat expensive) experience for yourself or the diners around you.
jecon 11-08-2007, 12:25 PM Spoodes - Not really expensive and always good.

I have seen completely well-behaved children in there, and I've seen kids running around their parents and yelling. It is a very nice restaurant with a comfortable, casual but still upscale vibe. If your kids can sit and chill for a meal that will probably last more than an hour, then bring 'em. If they're gonna whine and cry and want to see characters NOW and how much longer all the way through the meal, leave 'em in the car!
Tink's Hairdresser 11-08-2007, 11:39 PM Artist Point in the Wilderness Lodge:
Mussels in a great broth with dipping bread,
one-of-a-kind salmon,
blueberry cobbler,
and great service.
Must try the Cali Grill some time -- I believe the best Disney eating is outside the parks, at the signature restaurants.

We've brought our kids there. They loved it, they really loved the fake dessert sushi (made of rice krispie treats) on the kids menu.
I think that if I had to pick a best meal it would be tough to choose between California Grill and Jiko.
RockDoc07 11-12-2007, 07:27 PM My top two would be:
a) The California Grill. If you eat sushi, I don't care what the sushi appetizer is that night, order it. It is unquestionably the best sushi dish I have ever had, from the quality of the fish to the rest of the ingredients and the presentation. A+. The rest of the meal was awesome, and I never once felt rushed or like we were burdening the wait staff. Do it at night during the fireworks, the meal tastes even better ;)
and better than Cali Grill (IMO)
b) Le Bistro de Paris in EPCOT.
If you like French food, this is a slightly pricey must do. The first time I go to a French restaurant my barometer for future visits (or whether I go back at all) is usually a duck dish of some sort. This was the best one I have ever had. The rest of the meal was served at an awesome pace, and our waiter was well-educated in our meals as well as downright hilarious. The cheese plate we had for dessert was also the best that I have ever had. The artistry and culinary wizardry is absolutely excellent.
Bon apetit, and cool runnings

tdelaney_98 11-12-2007, 08:53 PM YUMMY question.
I've been sitting here thinking hard about this. I'm going to go both with and against the group. No, I cannot do just ONE meal, so here are some tops for me--
1. California Grill. My DH and I went there for our "date night" during a trip nearly 7 years ago. He had sushi for his appetizer. He said it was the best he'd ever had, and still says that to this day. I had a pork tenderloin with polenta that was beyond good. As we ate our dessert, the fireworks above the castle started....Wow--seriously romantic!
2. Grand Floridian (Gardenview Lounge). BEST bang for the buck. The high tea included tea, tea sandwiches (very generous, though), scones, jam tart, dessert or berries and cream. $19.50 per person!!!
3. Le Chefs. I know that reviews here are spotty, but if you happen to choose your menu wisely, it can be EXCELLENT. I had pumpkin soup that was as creamy as anything I've ever had. Main course was a filet, potato gratin, and french green beans. Dessert--blueberry pound cake with a little scoop of sorbet. I was on the DDP, so I don't know exactly how much it would've been.
4. Beaches & Cream. BEST burger on-site; excellent onion rings. Portions are SO big that you could share a burger & fries or rings for a meal.
5. Wolfgang Puck Express or Earl of Sandwich. EXCELLENT bang-for-the buck at both places. WPE has a wonderful bbq chicken pizza; EoS has delish sandwiches and a terrific 1/2 earl grey, 1/2lemonade drink that I dream about!

DisneylandForever 11-15-2007, 10:35 AM Nothing fancy, but my favorite meal in WDW is at the Kona Cafe:
Pot Stickers - wok-seared duck dumplings with creamy ginger soy sauce
Beef Teriyaki - 10 ounce sirloin strip, grilled with pineapple teriyaki sauce, mashed Yukon gold potatoes, and stir-fried broccoli florets
White Chocolate Cheesecake - cheesecake with a perfect hint of white chocolate topped with fresh strawberries, whipped cream and a brandy snap

Geistmeister 11-18-2007, 10:30 AM Flying Fish Cafe
“Peeky Toe” Crab Cake
Char Crusted New York Strip Steak
This is another one of the pricier restaurants at WDW, but the food was awesome!

We have reservations the first Sun. in May! Can't wait!
Bella 12-08-2007, 06:28 AM The best meal I ever had was at Le Cellier in Epcot(Canada). I really enjoy the Cheddar Cheese Soup, all the great breads they had, and the steak I had was really good.
littlej 12-13-2007, 08:34 AM Before this trip, the best meal we'd had was at Artist Point. When we dined there on 12/4, it was less than memorable.
Our best meal on this trip was dinner at Kona Cafe at the Polynesian on 12/5. I ordered the Kona Salad, which was big and yummy. Then had the Shrimp and Scallops (4 large each), which was absolutely incredible! For dessert had the Kilauea Torte, which was a lava cake made from chocolate chip cookie instead of chocolate cake, and filled with molten chocolate. Only way that could have been better was with a small dollop of vanilla ice cream.
