View Full Version : Best dessert in DLR?
kkmickey 10-30-2007, 07:28 PM What is your vote for the best dessert in DLR? Please include restaurant choices! I have always loved apple fritters, (especially the old ones that were as big as elephant ears and covered with custard and apples - mmmmm!). I would really like to try a new, amazing dessert. Any suggestions?
Rufus T Firefly 10-30-2007, 08:55 PM Have you ever tried churros?
Mrs Mouse 10-30-2007, 10:24 PM The beignets at Cafe Orleans are fantastic. Not greasy at all, topped with a dusting of icing sugar and served with two great dipping sauces - berry and some type of custard, I believe. Best of all, they are definitely big enough to share.
Also, I've never personally had it, but family members say that the cookie boat at BB is terrific as well.
emmah 10-30-2007, 11:11 PM I'm a big fan of the yummy fritters sold at the Mint Julep Bar in NOS; they have a custardy inside and come with apple sauce to dip them in; a very indulgent scrummy treat for late in the day.
RockDoc07 10-30-2007, 11:43 PM Dole. Whip.
It isn't necessarily a dessert per say, but at the end of the day strolling through Adventureland it does really hit the spot. Yum!

ssturgeo 10-31-2007, 05:57 AM Dole Whip....or for breakfast, in the heat of the afternoon, lunch dessert, dinner dessert, snack before going back to the hotel at night....11 days and I will indulging!!
MoKat72 10-31-2007, 07:21 AM This is really more of a candy than a dessert, but I love those apples in the Candy Palace with the 1/4 inch thick coating. I distinctly tasted cookie crumbs and white chocolate (among many other things) the last time I had one. Great, thanks for making me hungry! :P
ralfrick 10-31-2007, 07:58 AM I know people love the Dole Whips, but I was completely unimpressed. However, once I saw what they are made of, didn't feel so bad. Sounds more like a product of Dow Chemical that any sort of food item.
Sugar, Dextrose, Pineapple Crystals, Partially hydrogenated soybean oil, Stabilizers (Cellulose, Locust Bean, Guar, Xanthan, Karaya Gum, Pectin), Sodium Silico Aluminate, Vegetable Fiber, Citric Acid, Artificial Flavor, Sodium Caseinate (a milk derivative), Mono & Diglycerides, Sodium Citrate, Salt, Dipotassium Phosphate, Artificial Color Including F.D. & C. Yellow #6.
Yuck!
Cheers.
WendyT 10-31-2007, 08:08 AM There is a little window by the entrance to the lockers that sells sliced apples with caramel to dip them in. I don't remember the name of the place and it seems to be open infrequently, but they are YUMMY!
twinklelittlebat 10-31-2007, 08:13 AM Dole Whip! Dole Whip! dolewhipdolewhipdolewhip!
TTFN92 10-31-2007, 09:47 AM I guess this is more of a treat than a dessert, but I really like the chocolate dipped strawberries :D. I was so disappointed when we went to WDW and they didn't have them :(. They also didn't have Mint Juleps which are an absolute MUST when we go to DL :~D. The food just wasn't the same there.

Ooh, yes - I forgot about these. They are so good! As for treats, I also enjoy the chocolate-caramel marshmallows on sticks. Completely sinful, but so yummy.
Lovely... now I want DL treats!!!
Agent 10-31-2007, 12:23 PM I know you are probably looking for something in the Park. But, if you want to include DTD I would suggest the chocolate chip cookie skillet from ESPN Zone. It is made in a small cast iron skillet brought out fresh from the oven and topped with ice cream, caramel, chocolate syrup and whipped cream. It is really good and really filling.

What exactly is a beignet? How do you pronounce it? I keep hearing all this great stuff about them and would like to try it on my next trip but am not sure what they are. Thanks!
Mrs Mouse 10-31-2007, 03:40 PM What exactly is a beignet? How do you pronounce it? I keep hearing all this great stuff about them and would like to try it on my next trip but am not sure what they are. Thanks!
A beignet (pronounced ben-YAY) is basically just deep-fried, sweet dough. It is like a donut, but lighter and fluffier. At Cafe Orleans they serve them with berry compote and vanilla sauce. They are best when they are hot and fresh. They're not so good when they are cold.
You can also get them at Ralph Brennan's in Downtown Disney. I've never had them there, but I'm assuming there's not much of a difference. Their menu describes them as "a donut, fritter and funnel cake all rolled into one sweet tasting treat."
If you do try one on your next trip and happen to enjoy it, you can buy a mix to make them at home. It's available throughout the resort, I believe.
Hope I answered your questions!
kkmickey 10-31-2007, 05:17 PM Do any of the resort restaurants carry bread pudding?
Mrs Mouse 10-31-2007, 07:04 PM Do any of the resort restaurants carry bread pudding?
After perusing the menus at allearsnet.com, here's what I found:
House of Blues: Raspberry & Granny Smith apple bread pudding, with oatmeal topping, creme anglaise and whipped cream
Ralph Brennan's Creole Cafe: "housemade" bread pudding, served with vanilla sauce
Ralph Brennan's Jazz Kitchen: semi-sweet double chocolate bread pudding, with white and dark chocolate ganache
All of the restaurants I mentioned are located in Downtown Disney. I couldn't find bread pudding on the menu anywhere else. Hope this helps!
disneyjunkie 10-31-2007, 10:47 PM The trio of Creme Brulee at BB is excellent a passion fruit, mocha chocolate?, and vanilla bean sampler..with cookes that come in an edibile pirates treasure chest. All the creme brulee's are excellent , 3 of us all sampled one order and were satisfied that we had enough dessert. The edible chest, well its hard as a brick, its a chest that opens , but for me thats a good thing since it now resides in my Disney libaray room hopefully for a long time. I have decided that next time I am going to forgo my meal and just order a full dessert all for myself , which I can not eat all of if I have a meal.
kkmickey 11-01-2007, 03:32 AM Ohhh, you guys are good! I am looking forward to trying something new. And I love creme brulee as well. THANKS!!!
pixar 11-01-2007, 09:28 AM it may not be the best ice cream sundae, but we always end our day with something at the gibson girl ice cream parlor on main street. amazing it's never empty, even at 12:45am! :)
and I agree with the dole whip. at least 1 a day...

You can get bread pudding at the Jazz Kitchen in DTD.
Mickeygirlforever 11-01-2007, 12:20 PM Ooh, I love the chocolate strawberries. We also enjoy Tigger Tails in Critter Country. My favorite though would have to be a Nestle Premium Mickey Ice Cream Bar after every meal....or just when it's hot....or whenever! Yummmm!!
disneychick 11-01-2007, 02:48 PM Adore, adore, adore the Tortuga Trio of Creme Brulees at the BB! :D Heaven on a plate, three times over.
My DH and son shared the Flying Dutchman Cookie Boat, and loved it, too. We're going back to BB this trip, but will be skipping the overpriced meal and just enjoying our fave desserts instead! ;)
For something you can eat on the run, I'd have to give it to the Dole Whip. Churros are yummy, but can be had elsewhere - Dole Whips are scarce, and so more of a "Disney" treat. With regards to their content - ummm, well, I can pretty much guarantee that if you saw the ingredients for MOST food items in DL, you probably wouldn't want to eat any of them! With the small exception of the fresh fruit/veggies on the snack carts, almost everything is processed, and stuffed full of chemicals and crap. There's a reason we eat well the rest of the year! ;)
Toocherie 11-01-2007, 03:00 PM Ooh, We also enjoy Tigger Tails in Critter Country.
What are the Tigger Tails?
kristinhawk 11-01-2007, 03:40 PM What are the Tigger Tails?
Only the best thing ever! Skewered jumbo marshmallows dipped in orange flavored white chocolate and drizzled with dark chocolate. Lots of other versions as well. (Oreo crumbs, all dark chocolate, etc. etc.)
