View Full Version : 1st time advice?
beaumont1965 10-30-2007, 11:34 AM My husband and daughters ages 7 & 8 will be arriving on November 28-Dec 4th and staying at the HoJo. Does anyone know what shows/parades are going on that are a must see?
Also which breakfast is the best? I am leaning towards Minnie's breakfast.
We live in Victoria BC Canada and also am wondering what in terms of clothes should we bring. Where is the nearest grocery store to pick up bottled water, ceral/milk etc for the hotel room?
We will not be renting a car.
SolarSurfer 10-30-2007, 12:13 PM For the shows, Fantasmic! and the Remember, Dreams Come True fireworks shows at Disneyland are absolute must sees; and at California Adventure Disney's Aladdin: A Musical Spectacular, in the Hyperion Theater, is also must see. Aside from those, there isn't anything that you can't miss, Disney's Electrical Parade is great, but it's sorta become, at least in my opinion, more of a nostalgia thing; although with your kids, you might want to see the Block Party Bash. If your kids like the Pixar characters they'll really enjoy that.
As far as breakfast goes, I'm probably not the best person to be making suggestions since we normally have the hotel's continental breakfast to save money. But I have always enjoyed the character breakfast at Goofy's Kitchen, the downsides to that though are that it's expensive and it gets crowded fast, but if your up to it the character breakfasts are really fun.
For clothing, since California is normally warm during the day and colder at night, I'd say bring short sleeve shirts and a jacket, and a good combination of long pants and shorts. And just judge it by day, somedays you'll be fine day and night with shorts and a tee-shirt, but other days you'll probably really want those jackets and long pants.
I'm not sure on the grocery store one, but I know there is a shopping center with a Target and some other things like 12 blocks away from the park, but without a car you might not want to walk all that way. I'm sure that other people here know of a closer place to get that sort of stuff.

renodlandlover 10-30-2007, 12:20 PM We just got back from a stay at the HoJo - the fridges are small, I brought 2 1/2 gallons of milk, they fit in better, we were also able to fit in some veggies and cheese sticks, PB & J and cream cheese. They are the size of a small dorm fridge. You may need to just take a taxi to get food - the grocery store is not really a walk - it is North on Harbor from the hotel and parks, and you have to cross over the I-5, and it is 2-3 LONG blocks. The gift shop does sell milk and cereal in "bowls" - I'm not sure about the cost, but it is convienent!
If you haven't, look at www.disneyland.com and click on the calendar. You can then enter the days you will be there, and get an idea of what will be offered and when. My kids love the Block Party Bash at Cal Adventure. You may want to think about the new princess Breakfast at DCA, as well. The characters at Minnie's b'fast are plentiful, but I didn't think the food was that great.
Layers are always key this time of year! Shorts, pants, t's, sweatshirts, light jacket - and hope for no big spills! ;)
Hope that helps!

CaptainTom 10-30-2007, 02:27 PM hi,fellow Canuck! we went last year on Nov.11-18 and the weather was awesome! T shirts and shorts during the day and jeans and a light sweatshirt in the p.m. We live in Kamloops so we didn' find it cold at all though you might being from the Island. As far as groceries,a cab ride to Target might cost 20.00 return and you can get water, milk bread etc. from there.Good luck and have fun on your trip, we will be in DL from Nov.11-21
beaumont1965 10-30-2007, 02:39 PM Thank you all for the info. I just booked the trip today at lunch. I can't wait to see the faces on my daughters when I pick them up today from daycare:D. I booked at the HoJo for 6 nights. Thanks for the grocery tip. Keep them coming - suggestions on parades, fireworks.
Yes I live on the Island Captain John - how did you guess:p
Bytebear 10-30-2007, 04:00 PM With two daughters, you won't want to miss the Princess Faire. I also think the fireworks and fantasmic are must sees. Otherwise, it's just a matter of which attractions (rides) you want to go on. The Disneyland website has some great tools and descriptions so you can get a good idea of what are your must-see items. Also, use fastpass. It's free and it will save you hours of waiting.
CaptainTom 10-30-2007, 07:40 PM as I mentioned in my last post, we live in Kamloops B.C. so I am familiar with the province. You should also make a point of seeing the Fantasmic show ,with younger kids I am sure you will enjoy it!
kkmickey 10-30-2007, 07:48 PM Hello, and hope you have a great time! I just wanted to mention that if you have time, I think the Aladdin show is amazing! It's just like a short version of a Broadway production, and definitely worth the time.
