When are you going, Kathy? Nine Dragons is supposed to close "early 2008" for refurbishment until fall 2008. (I've never eaten there, but I haven't heard much good about it. I've had the Chinese food where you are - personally, I'd say to skip it. Same reason we don't go for Italian while we're in Florida. ;) )

And on the flipside, we went to Lotus Blossom last August and to be honest, the quality seemed to have dropped a bit. We were somewhat disappointed since we loved going there. We would still try it again to see if it was just an off day, though.

I've had a couple of meals at the China restaurant. And while they were perfectly fine, they weren't really anything special. There are so many amazing dining options in WDW, and in Epcot in particular, that China is way back on the do it every 3 or 4 years list for me.

Have you checked out the reviews on the MousePlanet Review Database (http://www.mouseplanet.com/reviews)?

I, too, tried Lotus Blossom a few weeks ago. It was icky. The orange chicken was processed-tasting, and the rice was flavorless. The CMs were not very friendly. HOWEVER, the ginger ice cream was very tasty.

I haven't tried Nine Dragons (the sit-down, table service restaurant) but my opinion of Lotus Blossom (the counter-service place) is that it just about matches Panda Express (http://www.pandaexpress.com/) in quality. Nothing special, but good for a quick snack. I generally don't bother with Epcot cuisine I can get at home--Chinese, Japanese, Mexican are all well-represented in the San Francisco Bay Area--but specialties like Scandinavian or Moroccan food are worth the time.

Heck... I remember making the comment "Panda Express is even better than this" the last time we ate there in August. Its a shame because it was not always that way. It used to be a highlight of our dining experience.

As a native New Yorker, who had 35 years in the Washington DC area (with a high oriental population) my comments on Nine Dragons is it is no better than a good local chinese restaurant at twice the price.

ASIAN, Figment - ASIAN!!! I get reminded of that almost weekly. I don't know when they changed it, or even who THEY are, but I'm trying my best to get used to Asian now. Next thing you know I won't be Caucasian any more - I'll be Non-Ethnic-Neutral-Pigment-American. . .

As a NY-er (but upstate) we get pretty good Chinese food here too but I have eaten at least 3 times at Nine Dragons and love it every time. Its not as fried or heavy as traditional take out and seems to have more flavor than what I'm used to. I would definitely recommend it!

Oh yeah! I work in DC's Chinatown (at the GAO building) and I love the food we can get here! It's not quite as good as San Francisco's Chinatown (or NY's from what I hear) but it is exceptional. For about $6 you can get a really good meal and usually a huge portion! It's hard to legitimize doing Chinese that might be iffy when the stuff at home is great.:)

Panda Express IS better than this. Ick!
