View Full Version : What's up with resort hotel prices?
splash 10-29-2007, 01:05 PM I was just checking prices for 6 nights at the DLH in April and it was almost $300 per night. Last year it was $200. Has anyone noticed the huge price changes or is it just me? The quote was almost $2800 for 6 nights and 5 day passes.

You might have gotten in on a special last year. Last year, average price was $280-340 a night at DLH.
lbrackjo 10-29-2007, 04:28 PM Last year our family of four trip at PP, 5 day Park Hoppers and with airfare in January was $2100 thru D-travel. The exact same dates hotel, tix this year is quoting $3000. Some of it is airfare, but there is a big boost in DLR hotel rates.
jeffthechef 10-29-2007, 04:41 PM The resort hotels did have a significant price increase both last spring and again, now. You have to consider whether the difference in price/ value is in line between them and the off-property hotels...
I went the HoJo's route last time and was very satisfied:)
disneychick 10-29-2007, 05:57 PM Supply and demand. ;)As long as people are willing to pay more, the hotels will charge more - you'll see prices drop when they have trouble filling the rooms.
Darkbeer 10-29-2007, 06:14 PM Don't forget, the Disneyland Hotel is supposed to start a major refurbishment starting in early 2008, so more than likely some rooms will not be available due to the construction. I presume they will do a few floors at a time, one tower at a time, similar to what was done recently at the PPH. But you are still taking off a good amount of rooms for the inventory. As mentioned above, Supply and Demand.
I would look at the TripAdvisor ratings, there are plenty of hotels that or as highly rated, or higher rated than the Disney owned hotels, and all of them are available at a lower price.
Different types of rooms, with more amenities then what Disney offers.
Everyone has different preference and choices, and price points, so compare, and ask others of their opinions here at MousePlanet.
misdisney 10-29-2007, 06:15 PM We are going this year as well and are staying at the DLH. We went last year same week and this year is about $700.00 more. Crazy
Duane 10-29-2007, 06:30 PM With rates rising every year, this is even more of an incentive to buy into DVC. We recently bought in and calculated expenses for the life of the ownership. We will be staying in all the Deluxe resorts for an average of $68 a night for the next 50 years. You can't beat it people!
yenko427 10-29-2007, 09:43 PM We are booked for six nights at the end of Jan. and it is $1500 and some change with the standard AP discount. Holding out for a special ap night rate however.
amarvel 10-29-2007, 11:16 PM we are finding the same thing for the week we want to go in april as well. was surprised to find it was more money.
K & S 10-30-2007, 10:27 AM The rate increases have no doubt been affected by California's increased minimum wage, which will be $8.00 an hour next month.
Burnt Toast 10-30-2007, 10:45 AM Remember y'all... as a hotel (any hotel, not just Disney) gets closer to capacity, average room rates go UP not down. If there's a major convention at the hotel, if it falls under a vacation period (who knows when Spring Breaks fall nowendays... it seems like it's the entire months of March and April now), and a bunch of other factors play into how much the room rate is going to be for your stay.
Check your airfare as well... it's still early on (it's only November and you're headed out in April), but big discounts for airlines that we're all used to usually don't happen until a month or two (maybe three) out now. For my trip to WDW this last September, I'm so used to getting that magical $200 or so rate for my preferred non-stop red-eye Delta flight like four or five months in advance... this year, that rate didn't appear until barely two months out. Check to see how much your flight is right now individually and I would bet that's where most of the extra cost is coming from... it's just too early and the airlines have changed the way they discount their flights so far in advance and limit themselves to just around two months out now.
splash 10-30-2007, 12:09 PM Mine was only for hotel and tickets.

I'm going early-mid January and I'm hoping for a special ap night rate, too! Keeping fingers (and everything else) crossed!

I know what an ap rate is, but what is an ap "night" rate?
