View Full Version : Birthday Treat For Adult
scoobydooby 10-28-2007, 05:00 AM My DH will be 44 during our next trip - any ideas for a birthday surprise? He won't want to be separated from the children (will be 9 and 6) so using child care to do more grown up stuff isn't an option - any ideas welcomed!
GusMan 10-29-2007, 09:30 AM During a TS dinner excuse yourself from the table and find your server. Tell them its his b-day and you want to surprise him with a cake or something.
Also, dont forget to have notes placed in your ADR's that it is his birthday. You never know what magic will happen. :)
CHEERMOM 10-29-2007, 10:00 AM We took my mother to Ohana for dinner on her birthday and they did a wonderful job of making it extra special, they seated us right by the window with a spectacular view of the castle/wishes and brought her a cake and put a lei around her neck and sang a special song it was fun for all ages in our group without embarrasing her with a character parade in her honor or something.

Never thought of that - thanks!

That sounds good too, although I'm happy for him to be hugely embarressed ... ;)
Drince88 10-29-2007, 12:02 PM Make sure he wears his birthday button on his birthday! My sister got a free dessert at one counter service location!
Have you thought about doing any of the specialty cruises? They're kind of spendy, but might be fun. Or one of the tours that your kids are old enough for?

I've had a look at the tours and sadly don't think DS (capable of dreadful sulking :( ) will enjoy any of them apart from the one where you can swim in the tanks at The Seas at Epcot and DD is too little for that. I had wondered about the cruises but there's only 4 of us and I thought you needed to fill a boat, so to speak, when you book? As for being spendy - I've sort of already broken all the money rules by coming back before 2010 already! I would be interested to hear the pros and cons of the MK cruise and the Epcot one though. Can't really get the idea from what I've read.
scoobydooby 11-03-2007, 04:42 PM Given the total silence am I right in thinking that restaurants and tours are the only real options for birthday treats for an adult?

What other kinds of things were you thinking about? You could rent a pontoon boat, or any other activity that you haven't gotten around to trying yet (mini golf, maybe).
My sister was wearing her birthday button and a CM at one of the stores handed her the phone to talk to 'his cousin' (Goofy).
You could also get a specific gift basket for him, themed to what HE likes.

I don't know. Probably something that doesn't exist! We will be at POFQ though so something with the boats might be a good plan and the children will love that too. Do you have to book way ahead? We never got to do a carriage ride last trip as they were fully booked whenever we tried and we tried several nights during our stay.
rph13 11-06-2007, 11:29 AM I don't know how your family usually plans your park days, but maybe you could let your husband be "king for the day", so all choices are his to make.---Which ride is next, when and where to have snack, lunch, dinner etc. whether to go left or right etc, etc.
We do this to a smaller extent for the kids, when they are starting to hit the wall but we just are not ready to leave yet. They get to be the ultimate tour guide and decide everything for a certain amount of time. Seems to work everytime.
The best part is NO ONE in the group can say anything negitive while the "king of the day" or "ulitmate tour guide" is on duty. All have to follow along cheerfully.:)
CHEERMOM 11-06-2007, 01:48 PM Port Orleans has carriage rides, this might be fun and romantic? Maybe you could have a special present waiting inside for him?

Now that's a really nice idea - thank you so much :)

Also very cool - I'm so type A, followed by a type A+ DD and a DS who has perfected the art of sulking he'd think he'd won the big prize - DH is the one who always defers to all 3 of us. Thank you too :)
mnursula 11-09-2007, 01:09 PM How about parasailing?
Kwahati 11-09-2007, 02:51 PM How about parasailing?
Ooh! Cool idea cause the rest of the family could be together on the boat with the person who's parasailing, right?! And you made me think of something else: How about a surfing lesson at Typhoon Lagoon?
All sorts of cool stuff to do at the World, huh Scooby?:D
mnursula 11-10-2007, 02:36 PM thats what I was thinking. Theres also the Richard Petty driving experience. Mom and the kids can watch Dad zoom around the track:)

As adreneline junkie of the party (so long as simulators not involved ;) ) that sounds good to me - where does it happen?

You know surfing at TL would be my DS's idea of heaven. Do you have to book this as part of a special package?

Cool. Now moved from thinking there was nothing super special to wondering what to choose???!! Would be jealous watching DH do this though without getting a turn too - I've just read up on this and it sounds fab!

I honestly don't know much about it, except that they do it some mornings at TL
(in the wave pool obviously) and they give everybody surfboards for the lesson. I think I recall hearing that it's a couple hundred bucks (USD) and there's no transportation to it because it happens well before the parks open (so he'd have to take a taxi or something to get to it). I bet you could find out more about it by calling the 1-800-WDW-PLAY line (I don't know if you can call 800 #'s from the other side of the world, so PM me if there's anything at all I can do to help):D
mnursula 11-13-2007, 11:23 AM parasailing is at the Contemporary Hotel. :)
