DH was like ok driving again! wishiwasthere 10-28-2007, 09:51 AM That's still probably considered a popular travelling time. I would drive too! cstephens 10-28-2007, 10:07 AM I just priced April 20 return April 27 JFK to Orlando and Return 2 adults 1 child and 1 baby 2500.00!!!!!!!! DH was like ok driving again! Have you tried a different airline? Maybe they've got better prices. After my experience with JetBlue, I don't plan to ever fly them again. houseofmouse 10-28-2007, 07:17 PM I too would try another airline. I also would wait until at least January before trying to book and pay for tickets. The earlier you get them till about 45-30 days out the more expensive they are!! We flew United in 2006 to WDW in March. Looked at tickets in November they were 484.00 per person. By the middle of January they were down to 250.00 a ticket per person. Keep checking, not Jetblue but other airlines but really try to wait to purchase.:) emmah 10-28-2007, 07:29 PM Have you tried a different airline? Maybe they've got better prices. After my experience with JetBlue, I don't plan to ever fly them again. oh no! i was planning to book them - i need a one way flight NYC to Orlando in late january and they have a fare of $99 plus tax which I thought was a good deal. What was wrong with the airline? bradk 10-28-2007, 07:34 PM i fly jetblue exclusively.. never anything but amazing experiences. i've even missed my flight twice and they just put me on the next plane no questions asked or fees charged (their policy is to never overbook so they'll fly half-empty planes if they need to). i can list a ton of positives about them really. emmah 10-28-2007, 08:44 PM i fly jetblue exclusively.. never anything but amazing experiences. i've even missed my flight twice and they just put me on the next plane no questions asked or fees charged (their policy is to never overbook so they'll fly half-empty planes if they need to). i can list a ton of positives about them really. whew! thanks for the reassurance! I had only heard good things until I read this thread and then I got worried. cstephens 10-28-2007, 09:54 PM What was wrong with the airline? They changed our flight, which was supposed to be at like 10am, to the only other available flight out of the same airport, which was at midnight later that day, and never told us. Apparently never told anyone else on the flight either. I wasn't paranoid enough to be checking constantly, but I do check in the morning before leaving for the airport, so you can imagine how I felt when being told that our trip to New York might not be happening because of this. Luckily, it was early enough that we were able to fly out of another local airport, but because we changed our out-going flight, we also had to change our returning flight, so instead of getting seats that we wanted that we booked months in advance, we were stuck with awful seats because we were booking "so last minute". The person on the phone with my husband as we made these changes was nice enough to him, but we never heard from the company or were given any kind of apology. I've also heard from friends who've flown JetBlue who have encountered other serious problems, so it would take extraordinary circumstances for me to ever fly them again. bradk 10-29-2007, 03:58 AM which is odd because the only timee they've ever changed flight times for me (it's been 3 so far), it's never been more than by 10 minutes and they call and email obsessively until i respond back with an okay. but it probably helps that i book only online (double the reward points) through my trueblue account so they know how to find me and fly out of JFK which is basically their home airport and they have some absurd # like 70% of the marketshare there. Bobcat 10-29-2007, 06:02 AM I just priced April 20 return April 27 JFK to Orlando and Return 2 adults 1 child and 1 baby 2500.00!!!!!!!! DH was like ok driving again! Please correct me if I'm wrong and it may be different in other cities/states but that week may be school break week in April and if that's the case it's notoriously difficult to obtain reasonable air rates unless booked right around the day the fares are released. I'll add a few props to JetBlue, we've flown them from Boston numerous times and, while we've had schedule changes (nothing to drastic) our experience has always been nothing less then excellent! Bobcat GusMan 10-29-2007, 07:23 AM I just priced April 20 return April 27 JFK to Orlando and Return .... Please correct me if I'm wrong and it may be different in other cities/states but that week may be school break week in April ... Isnt that also around the time of "Jersey Week?" If so, that might the reason behind what you are seeing.... Bobcat 10-29-2007, 07:41 AM Isnt that also around the time of "Jersey Week?" If so, that might the reason behind what you are seeing.... I believe "Jersey Week" is normally late-October/early-November. dawz1026 10-29-2007, 07:46 AM which is odd because the only timee they've ever changed flight times for me (it's been 3 so far), it's never been more than by 10 minutes and they call and email obsessively until i respond back with an okay. but it probably helps that i book only online (double the reward points) through my trueblue account so they know how to find me and fly out of JFK which is basically their home airport and they have some absurd # like 70% of the marketshare there. Do you find JFK easy enough to fly out of?I have not been there since 2001 and everyone tells me I have to drive to Islip its much better and take Southwest.I think the thought of "open seating" is a bit much with lil ones.Im not into running to find seats etc.Plus JetBlue is my only option. dawz1026 10-29-2007, 07:47 AM Since Easter is March I thought that to a safe week to travel.Maybe I mossed something???? Bobcat 10-29-2007, 08:09 AM Since Easter is March I thought that to a safe week to travel.Maybe I mossed something???? I don't think you missed anything. I know that here in Massachusetts, Spring Break for elementary/middle schoolers is the week of the 21st-25th of April which just so happens to be the week you're attempting to travel so I simply assumed that the issue was that the Spring Break in your area was similar to ours. There have been times when Easter has been a bit later in April and Spring Break was called Easter Break or something like that. Just for kicks, I attempted to book similar dates on Jet Blue and the price from Boston was similar. Bobcat GusMan 10-29-2007, 09:22 AM I believe "Jersey Week" is normally late-October/early-November. Ahhh... I sit corrected. Thanks! dawz1026 10-29-2007, 10:43 AM I don't think you missed anything. Bobcat Last year I also booked when New England States were on break..I must have some magic power lol....We don't mind seeing Sox shirts though!!!! family in Boston and Acton! emmah 10-29-2007, 12:56 PM hey, all of this discussion made me go and have another look at the schedule for my flight (not yet booked) and its changed! I was going to book a 6am flight from JFK that gets into Orlando at 9am, and its no longer there - now there is a 7am flight getting in at 10am - AND the price has dropped from $99 to $69 ($75 with taxes). i didn't book it a couple of months ago because the travel agent i contacted said to wait and see if the price went down (which seemed odd to me, because I thought $99 was cheap; flights are much more expensive here in Australia). but it seems she really knew what she was talking about!! bradk 10-29-2007, 03:39 PM it's also quite possible that the previous flight booked up. JB operates over 100 flights per day out of JFK. it's basically them and Delta (but JFK does more than twice what Delta does there). JB prices do fluctuate quite a bit, especially as people cancel flights, but they also periodically put in sales so it's good to check them often (lowest i've seen for JFK <-> MCO is $59 per flight.. this upcoming trip is $79 each way for me). the good news is if the fare drops, you can just contact JB for no-hassle credit. as far as JFK goes, i guess it's ranked one of the worst airports. i can tell you that while JB offers free wifi there, it's really spotty. supposed to be laden with delays. i've had a couple but nothing major. as it is it looks like the government is trying to get the number of flights cut down because of delays and them affecting other airports. but i've had no real problems with JFK personally.. and I live near it and my other option is LGA which has far fewer JB flights operating from it (but if the JB site let you check all 3 metro airports at once..) emmah 10-29-2007, 03:46 PM yes, i have to admit that that thought (that the flight booked up) didn't occur to me until after i posted. but my TA has now booked the flight for me (total $78 with taxes and charges) so all is fine. and the amazing thing is that since the aussie dollar is doing so well (now hovering on 93 cents!) compared to the greenback, the flight that i had budgeted $150 for, back in May, only cost me $84. the fin review is projecting parity by February and suggesting we may actually reach $1.10 in the next two years. amazing - in 2002 our dollar was only worth 50 cents, and even in January this year it was under 80 cents. its going to make shopping in NYC so much fun!! :~D dawz1026 10-29-2007, 03:48 PM sure enough I looked into going April 6-13 and the price is now for 3 and a baby 1076.00 much better! I have not booked flight just yet but will probably be doing so shortly and will look into specials...thx 4 the help and jfk will be a go! Bobcat 10-29-2007, 04:25 PM A savings of $1424 in return for a little date flexibility! Nice job!!! Now, don't wait too long to book. :) Tink's Hairdresser 10-29-2007, 11:03 PM I like JetBlue because they don't overbook, they have TVs at the seats, and their website lets you choose your seats in advance. They do sometimes change flight times (a pain), but they have always notified me in advance. Plus, other airlines change flight times too. My beef with JetBlue is that they refuse to serve food and drinks at the same time, and I can let this slide due to the other advantages. bradk 10-30-2007, 07:39 AM but they do allow for unlimited snacks and drinks .. which is a plus dawz1026 10-30-2007, 09:14 AM thats a big plus, especially with my family...we love to eat! |
