View Full Version : LAX terminals [inter-terminal shuttle service]
CaptainTom 10-27-2007, 10:51 AM can anyone help me with this question? We are flying into l.a.x terminal#3 from Canada and my sis is flying in from Texas to terminal#8. We had planned to take the Disney bus together to the hotel,so is there a shuttle from terminal 3 to terminal 8 or how can we hook up before we get on the bus? Thanks for your help.
mommy-san 10-27-2007, 01:31 PM As far as I know, you can't. But the bus stops at every terminal so you will meet up eventually!
PinokeFan 10-27-2007, 05:06 PM Yes, there is a shuttle that connects the terminals at LAX. It makes a continuous loop and runs every 12-15 minutes.
Look for the Airline Connections "A" Shuttle under the LAX Shuttle & Airline Connections blue sign on the Lower Level islands in front of each terminal.
Enjoy your trip!
DizneyMommy 10-27-2007, 05:28 PM As confusing and crowded as LAX is, I'd stick with the first post's option... just have the Disney bus stop at both terminals and then you know you'll find each other and the bus on time.

That's assuming both parties have landed, have gotten their luggage, and are ready for the same Disney bus at the same time. In other scenarios, it makes sense to take the LAX Shuttle between terminals (which is precisely what the original poster asked about to begin with).
Bytebear 10-28-2007, 07:22 PM You could always meet at the Encounter restaurant. It's not hard to miss.

Is it reopened yet?

cabozone 10-28-2007, 08:12 PM if you are flying in from canada you will be coming in through the Tom Bradley international terminal. Which is between terminal #3 and #4. If you go out of the terminal and head to the right and your sister heads to the left you can meet at terminal #6 and take a bus from there. it is about 200 yards for each of you to travel. check out terminal map (http://www.lawa.org/lax/terminalMap.cfm) for more information.

Not all flights from international countries fly into Bradley. It's actually for international airlines more than international flights.

The Encounter is scheduled to re-open on November 15.
For those who don't know: The Encounter is located in the Theme Building, which is the famous "spaceship" building in the center of the airport. It has been closed for several months, as major structural work had to be done on the building arches.
A visit to the Encounter makes a nice little addition to a Disneyland trip, imo, because the restaurant interior (and the exterior lighting) was designed by Disney Imagineers.
CaptainTom 10-29-2007, 10:14 AM thanks Pinokefan, that sounds like a good plan!
emmah 10-29-2007, 04:10 PM this seems like an appropriate thread to ask this question; in january i am flying into LAX on qantas, terminal 2, and then on to NYC again on qantas (and i would assume the same plane) but this time an hour later from terminal 4. i am assuming that i will have to collect my bags to go through customs, and then make my way to the new terminal. I have done this in Honolulu, we used to have to pick up our bags and then put them on the other side of a line painted on the floor, but i have never transitted through LAX before and its such a horrid airport, I have been wondering how they organise this. if anyone has done this, how long would you estimate that to take? we arrive at 7am, and the on flight to NYC is just after 8am.

Wait - I'm confused. If you're on the same plane you wouldn't be flying from a different terminal? I'm not sure how they'd get the plane clean and moved to terminal four in just an hour.

Ok, so if you really have to get from terminal 2 to terminal 4, with luggage in an hour, good luck. You will have to get from terminal 2 to 4 (they're on different sides of the airport - here's a map (http://www.lawa.org/lax/terminalMap.cfm)) and then through security at Terminal 4. You'd have a better shot if your luggage was checked through. :( The only other thing is that since both flights are Qantas, they might hold the NYC flight for you??

I think you may be wrong about arriving at Terminal 2. As far as I know, Qantas flies from either Terminal 4 or the Tom Bradley International Terminal.
Randomly checking the Qantas website, I see a flight (QF93) from Melbourne arriving in L.A. at 7:30 am at Terminal 4. This flight, in turn, departs for NY at 8:50 am (QF107). Does that match your itinerary?
Since it is my home airport, I have never connected through LAX. I know some international airlines utilize "in-transit" lounges for passengers that are merely passing through. In those cases, your baggage has been checked through to your destination and you are "held" in a secure area and do not go through Customs in L.A. You don't actually clear Customs until you reach your destination city.
Qantas is probably the best source for an answer to your questions.
emmah 10-29-2007, 06:39 PM Yes, and thanks; I had written it down incorrectly. I arrive at terminal 4 and depart from terminal 7. its entirely possible, i guess, that it is a different plane, but i wouldn't have thought they would have two 747s sitting there at the same time, especially since the flight back to australia doesn't leave til 10-11pm in the evening, so i just assumed it was the same plane. if we do in fact go through customs in NYC that will make things a lot easier, but I always thought you had to go through customs wherever you land in the USA first. i will have to ring qantas and find out for myself. thanks again for the help!
