Not feasible to walk, though it's possible. Once at Ft. Wilderness it's really spread out and has it's own internal shuttle system. GusMan 10-27-2007, 09:49 AM If you take the boat to Fort Wilderness from WL, its a short walk from the dock to Trail's End. Where do I have to go to get to Trails End?? Trails End is in Fort Wilderness (the campground) NOT Wilderness Lodge. To get there from the lodge you can take the boat over to the Fort Wilderness stop and its a 2 minute walk. Very much worth it , esp for the breakfast buffet! :) sherry 10-29-2007, 06:34 AM Thanks alot guys never having been there {W.L.} I was thinking it was all one spot. Do I need reservations for Trails End? GusMan 10-29-2007, 07:18 AM Do I need reservations for Trails End? Depends on when you are going... If during a busy time, then maybe. The funny part was that during one trip we made an ADR for there and when we arrived we pretty much had the place to ourselves. So, my rule of thumb is to try to get ADR's set up for any sit-down eatery even if you think it is not needed. You just never know. And I also thought the breakfast buffet was real good. Nothing fancy, but a lot of good cooking. ericles 11-01-2007, 01:15 PM Ft. Wilderness, the campground/cabin complex next door. They are two separate resorts. Is this not so? I was under the impression that you could walk to the buffet/hoop-de-do from Wilderness Lodge. Wilderness most of my disney trips and since the building of WL have never heard of a trail (it doesn't mean there's one and knowing WDW i bet there is. . .now whether its accessable to the public is a whole different story. My dad and I spent most of my childhood vacations there roaming the woods but moreso in the direction AWAY from WL. The only easy way i know to get there is the boat ( or a bus). Sorry :( As far as ADR's for Trails End. . .i'd reccomend doing so if its a general "eating time" ANYWHERE. Esp. if you're going at a busy time o the year. :) Mousellaneous 11-02-2007, 08:18 AM I have stayed at FW for at least 1 week each year since 1993. There is indeed a walkway between FW and WL, in the form of a sidewalk that follows the service road that the buses take when going between the resorts. It is very much walkable, but it is a bit of a hike - I think it's a little over a mile, but I don't remember exactly. It's certainly not an impossible effort, it just might not be worth it after being out all day at the parks. There is a more inaccessible, but much more beautiful trail on the other side of that road that follows the shore of Bay Lake - now that can be quite an experience. About 2/3 of the way down the road is a dirt trail; at night the views are incredible, and it leads to the back of River Country. If anybody is familiar with the back of RC it comes out by the old house and storage unit where the lifeguards, security patrols and I believe the DI folks used to take breaks. Does anybody know if this area still gets use? ericles 11-02-2007, 08:22 AM cool - thanks, I was hoping that there was a trail of some sort and I wasn't going loopy!!!! littlej 11-02-2007, 11:01 AM Nobody's loopy. Here's a large map (http://www.kingdom-travel.com/Walt_Disney_World_Resorts/_ResortAssets/Fort_Wilderness_Resort_Campground/Disney_Fort_Wilderness_Recreation.jpg) clearly showing the trails between the two resorts. I hope this helps! ericles 11-02-2007, 11:18 AM nice - thanks for the map. I'm still a little loopy ....comes from my time in the Garden State;) littlej 11-02-2007, 11:29 AM Yeah, sorry about that. It's waaaaay too late for me. :D |
