View Full Version : 4 year old stroller question/Rental
guatemalamama 10-25-2007, 12:36 PM Hi, I was wondering is it best just to rent a stroller for a 4 year old or take ours with us. She rides in hers when she is tired. Also, if you have a DW Visa are they free to rent?
Thank You,
Susan
adriennek 10-25-2007, 01:11 PM Are you going to Disneyland or Walt Disney World?

I have only been to the Florida parks but I would say rent one because;
They are a good size (might need a blanket to sit on for a smaller child)
They are lovely to push!
You don't have to worry about losing it - even if it is 'liberated' by A.N.Other you can show your ticket and get a new one
You'll worry about losing your own and staff sometimes tidy them up into different places - this might be stressful if you don't find your own stroller where you left it
They are wipe down friendly so better for food/sun cream spills
I thought they were really cheap for the added ease of pushing both a 5 and (lazy) 8 year old around in on occasion. If you buy multiple days on day one the price goes down.
Hard to spot though as they all look the same - get something to tie onto the handle to identify yours by.
BUT -
If you are driving and need to use a stroller from car park to park entrance you might find your own a better plan
If you need a stroller in resort as well/for other things like shopping trips, you might as well use your own if you've brought it anway rather than pay twice
If your little one sleeps in their own stroller because they've found that comfortable 'niche' in it, you might not get that in a different one.
Beware of sunburn if you're going at a hot time for the bits that stick outside a stoller especially. As they are a dark colour getting a white muslin or similar to drape over the outside is a good in hot weather.
mom22gls 10-26-2007, 10:39 AM You could also pack an umbrella stroller, for use around the resort, airport, and so forth. I would still rent a stroller for use in the parks, for the above-cited reasons.
CHEERMOM 10-28-2007, 04:52 PM We like to take an umbrella stroller too, it's helpful for keeping track of your little one at the airport, and Downtown Disney. Also, it costs less to get an umbrella stroller than to rent one for a week long vacation, and you bypass the stroller line at the begining and ending of the day.
It was $10.00 a day last time we were there. You can buy a very nice light weight stroller for $70
disneychick 11-01-2007, 02:53 PM We have a Maclaren Volo, and LOVE it. My son is 4, going on 5, and tall for his age. He still fits very well in the stroller in spite of his size, and it's one of the lightest strollers we've seen that's also sturdy. It collapses very easily, has a shoulder strap for carrying, and weighs next to nothing.
We bought it when he was a baby, but have continued to use it just for vacations when there is a lot of walking involved. It's been a lifesaver! My personal preference is to bring the stroller, as we find it comes in handy at the airport, too - anywhere where there are a lot of people and it can be tough for little legs to keep up (also, in the security/customs line-ups, where you have to stand for ages).
UsBurchs 11-07-2007, 09:24 AM I like bringing our own umbrella stroller because we get to use it outside the parks as well. Nice when our son is asleep at the end of the day and we can walk right out of the park with him in it instead of having to wake him and carry him out - a 42 lb 3-year-old isn't something we enjoy carrying long distances! ;)
We've never had any issues with our stroller being stollen. We keep a small backpack with diapers, juice and other replaceable items on the stroller even when we head into rides. (we take the expensive cameras, money, etc. in another bag into rides) When we come out, its still there. Ours is bright red and a couple years old, so it looks different than others, these days.
Bring a garbage bag with you that you can put over the stroller while in rides if it's threatening rain. Don't want to come out to a wet stroller.
Remember, you can "carry-on" the stroller onto airplanes. Take it to the gate and check it there (gate-check). Most airlines let you do this. They give you a special tag to put on it and you leave it outside the door as you get on the plane. When you get off, it's right there waiting for you. Nice to have at the airport - especially for those short connections!!
MommyTo2Boys1Girl 11-12-2007, 10:55 PM I agree with bringing your own. You will want it on the way back to the hotel for a tired kiddo.
HTanner 11-19-2007, 11:36 AM We are going to DL with 2 kids - 4 and 2 1/2 - in December. Our dilemma - which stroller/s to bring?
We are driving our Dodge Caravan which is big on passenger seating and not so much on trunk space.
We have a double stroller which we used when the kids were smaller. Its no longer the most comfortable for the 4 y.o., but he can still fit in it. However, it takes up almost all of the trunk space - - so, our car ride would probably be crowded with luggage in the passenger area. Not sure I want to be uncomfortable for the whole ride. Plus, the thing is really not the best in crowds - its long and bulky.
We also have one single stroller - left over from our trip to WDW in September. We had two singles for that trip, and one just barely made it home in one piece, and we couldn't fit it back in the trunk of the car with all our souveniers... so we ditched it at the airport. LOL!!
I was thinking we could let the 2 y.o. use the single and then rent one for the 4 y.o. when he needs it. Or get a cheapie umbrella stroller that we can fold down and put in the undercarriage of the other stroller???
The kids hardly use a stroller at all anymore - - however, sometimes when we go to the zoo here, we rent one because otherwise we end up carrying them at the end of the day. NO FUN.
Thoughts? What would you do?

I'm not familiar with Dodge Caravans, but you only have two kids - is there any way to remove any of the seats in the van? I have an Odyssey which seats five in the back but we only have three, so we keep one of the captains chairs in the garage almost all the time. The only time we have it in the car is when we have a "guest" with us. (Sometimes family, sometimes friends.) This really opens up the cargo space of the passenger area.
If you're going with two singles, I'd buy an inexpensive stroller before I rented. I HATE not being able to take the stroller out of the park with me - and usually the end of the day is when they need it the most anyway.

Thanks.
We can take the seat out, but we have no secure place to store it while we are gone on vacation (our neighbors never close the garage that we share!) - plus, we might be visiting with friends and need the extra seat. So, that would not be an option.
The trunk of a Dodge Caravan is deep, but not wide. When we used to take the stroller everywhere, it took up over 1/2 of the space. With luggage, we would not have room for everything in the trunk. What we may do is use the back seat for the stroller and the trunk for the luggage... hmm...
Thanks for your thoughts!
3disneyangels 12-05-2007, 07:01 PM hello everyone
