Yes, but I have seen a few posts with the "ELP" thing, so I threw it in.
WDS is also used for the Walt Disney Studios in Euro Disney Resort Paris/ Disneyland Resort Paris.
Never thought of that
ED - Euro Disney
EDL - Euro Disneyland ( Disneyland Paris )
Two other good additions. :)
MonorailMan 09-06-2002, 06:55 PM Holiday Season Is Coming, some more should be added:
NBC- Nightmare Before Christmas
Jack - Jack Skellington, a NBC character
Sally - A NBC character
HMH - Haunted Mansion Holiday, when HM has a NBC layover.
(Sorry to resserect on old thread.) :)
RStar 09-09-2002, 10:22 AM Personally MM,
I hate it when the is one acronym for more than one item! How dose one know if SM is Space or Splash? Right now I use the one word shorts for them. Got any ideas of what we can start? SCM, SLM? Spa, Spl ? SpaM, SplM? Or would that just confuse people more? Especially the SPAM one....
And HM IS Haunted Mansion. Period. So Hidden Mickey could be H?M or H/M. I like the latter the best.
Also, is there an acronym place where I cane find out what some of these other things are all about. I always thought lol was Lots Of Love. Now I think it is Lots Of Laughs. I know BTW and J/K. But the rest is Latin to me.
Thanks for the hard work!
P.S. Thanks for the greeting work as well!:)
adriennek 09-09-2002, 10:42 AM I totally KWYM, Rstar. When my DH introduced me to the internet, I had to learn all the letters. Once I got, LOL, I had to figure out ROTFLMAOPIMP and more. FWIW, I went to google (IMNSHO, Google is the *best* SE,) and typed in "Internet Acronyms" Actually, I spelled it wrong, but Google figured that out for me.
BTW, I'll be AFK for awhile, but I'll BBL if I can answer any other questions for you.

Ghoulish Delight 09-09-2002, 10:49 AM Aha! So THAT'S what the PIMP stands for. I was well aware of rotflmao, but the suddenly I started seeing PIMP tacked on and couldn't figure it out for the life of me. That's, umm, interesting. Yeah.
Of course, that brings up an administrative question I'd always had issue with. If it's okay to type rotflmao, or "witch with a b" or other such things, why is it not okay to type ****** (not that that stands for anything in particular, but you know what I mean)? Where is the line between acceptable substitutions for unacceptable language and unacceptable skirting of the rules? Afterall, lmao stands for something we would not otherwise be allowed to post.

I guess we could type rotflmbo (rolling on the floor laughing my butt off) but it doesn't have the same kick to it. :D
I've used "lol" before, but I often prefer to creatively describe what I'm saying or mean to say in lieu of an acronym... It saves time typing, but it doesn't have the same flair of actually typing what you mean...
Just my two cents.

:) The acronyms evolved from chat, rather than message boars. On chat, time is everything. You really want to get across your point asap, so acronyms were the automatic answer. They have since moved into the world of message boards. For those of us used to internet chat and who, therefore, have used the acronyms extensively, they (at least imho) have become just as expressive when used in the right context. But I completely understand that if one is not used to them, they can seem inadequately simplified.
Matterhorn Fan 09-09-2002, 11:40 AM With all due respect, MonorailMan, "Sally" and "Jack" are character names, not acronyms. (Along similar lines, "Indy," on your original list, isn't an acronym either.)
Your original list is impressive, but how often does someone use "MAoWtP"? I've also never seem "Timekeeper" abbreviated.
Personally, if someone is talking about some character I've never heard of, or if they're using abbreviations I've never seen used, I can usually figure it out from context. It wouldn't occur to me to go over to the FAQ to find the answer. I guess I just wonder what the purpose of such a list is--the ones adriennek used in her post above are internet acronyms, not Disney ones. They're not unique to this board, and there are (apparently) sites where you can look them up (and to think I used my brain to fill in the blanks!). Most of the Disney-specific ones you should be able to pick up from reading the boards . . . right?
Ghoulish Delight 09-09-2002, 11:51 AM I think such a list has value. Not everyone who reads the boards is as intimately knowledgeable about the parks, or other Disney aspects, as some of us. And, not everyone has a knack for deciphering acronyms. I consider myself very adept at figuring out what they stand for, and even I've had trouble on occasion. So it's nice to have a place to quickly look it up rather than trying to weed through a post and decipher.
GD, I agree that the primary purpose of an acronym list like this is to provide ready reference of jargon for our readers. To that end, we include more than just abbreviations, which I believe I've stated in the introduction of the FAQ.
I've incorporated the suggested changes in this thread. Please continue to let me know here if you think an item ought to be added.
MF -- part of the reason we provide a list like this is to cut down the number of posts new members make that ask what things stand for. Having a list like this also helps newcomers feel more at home. Have you ever found yourself in a meeting for a new project or gone to a new class where everybody seems to be talking over your head? You can usually figure things out after a while, but it is much more reader-friendly for us to provide folks with a list so they don't feel quite so puzzled.

The difference, IMHO, is that this is a family site. We are protecting the children that would otherwise not be able to figure it out, not the adults that know the meaning.

Your Welcome! I do it so the Mods don't have to re-hash stuff from the FAQ to a new user that didn't follow the rules. :)
